Green Lantern Home

Alan Scott was the first Green Lantern back in the Golden Age and his powers are generally considered to be more magical. He’s with the JSA and not attached to the Corps and so doesn’t turn up too much. Hal Jordan is the big name. He followed on from Alan and introduced the current mythos with the Core, the Guardians and so on. He’s considered the greatest GL by many. An important note for his character is during the 1990s, he had a story arc where he turned villain following the destruction of Coast City, leading to him becoming Parallax after destroying the Corps (which lead to Kyle being the last GL and thus the Torch bearer). This got somewhat retconned during Geoff Jones’ run with the invention of the emotional Entities which removes some of the guilt from Hal’s character. I know less about Guy Gardner and John Stewart. They came about before Hal’s turn to Parallax and I certainly need to look into them. Guy is a generally a hot head and quiet confrontational which John presents a more measured character.  Kyle came about after the destruction of the Green lantern Corps and was intended to make Green Lantern more ‘cool’ with a younger character. He’s an artist and is considered more in touch with his emotions, thus going on to master the whole colour spectrum and becoming the White Lantern. A great place to start is Geoff Jones’ run, which brings Hal back to life (As Parallax, he died reigniting the sun (The Final Night) and during the Day of Judgement storyline, he was brought back as the host of the Spectre but was for all intents and purposes, still a ghost). This starts with Green Lantern rebirth (2004) and covers the expansion of the Green Lantern mythos to include the other colours. Its during this time you get stories such as the Sinestro Corps war and Blackest Night.  I hope this helps and feel free to ask more questions and we’ll answer them as best we can!
