Things got a little too spicy.

Claudine | Maya

was between Maya and Claudine.

Bear with me, guys. Remember Maya’s stage during her duel with Karen in episode 3? It’s this… high.

Surely, she had been using this stage since to assert her dominance over her rivals. Maya had distanced herself using staircases, towers, and columns as her main tactic, probably to tire her opponents before facing her. Karen, in her first duel against Maya, had not even changed the landscape of the stage; she remained trapped in it until she lost. Karen (prior to her unification with Hikari in episode 4) had only cut the rope of a meager chandelier. But to be fair, the Revue title presented by the Giraffe was not in her favor. (Karen’s Pride as a butai shoujo could never rival Maya’s).

Then, imagine Claudine’s duel against Maya in episode 2. We learned in episode 10 how Claudine can be very destructive on stage:

And we assumed how Maya can be so cheeky with altering the topography of her stage to her advantage. When she wants you to feel so inferior, to see how far you can fall far down to the ground, she won’t hesitate. Remember how she humiliated Karen by dropping her to a giant stuffed swan from a steep slide? 

Anyone subjected to that will never appear graceful and dignified, especially if that tactic caught a dueler by surprise.

But, this happened. Maya versus Claudine.

Reduced to rubble. Both of them were standing on a pile of rubble at ground zero. It was also raining, so probably at some point in their duel, ceilings have been destroyed. The only difference is that Maya won and Claudine lost. What were they thinking, feeling about this duel and about each other that ruined the stage to this.

Maya beating Claudine means her feelings for her ‘rival’ were actually more complicated than she lets on

alright, I’ve done it. I’ve run the numbers. I’ve figured out everyone’s height.

Assuming 1 pink shower tile is 4 inches tall, we have:

Nana: 17 tiles = 5′8″ = 173 cm

Maya: 16.5 tiles = 5′6″ = 168 cm

Claudine: 16.2 tiles = 5′5″ = 164.5 cm

Mahiru: 16 tiles = 5′4″ = 162.5 cm

Karen: 15.5 tiles = 5′2″= 157.5 cm

Kaoruko: 15.3 tiles = 5′1″= 155.5 cm

Futaba: 15 tiles = 5′0″ = 152 cm

you may question the validity of these numbers. why are tiles 4 inches? how is japanese banana 5′8″? but listen, the numbers add up: a human head is about 8-9 inches tall. Futaba is about a head smaller than nana. these numbers make her 8 inches shorter. it all checks out

junna and hikari are a little harder, since they don’t participate in the group showers (what losers). going off other screenshots, I’m going to say:

Junna: 5′3″ = 160 cm

Hikari: 5′3″ = 160 cm

Giant hands as imagery never mean anything good. The literal stage hands from episode 8 was scary enough but now theres this huge looking hand at the start of Maya’s chapter of Overture. Due to this manga being a prequel to the anime I don’t think it’s a coincidence that a giant hand is featured here. Considering what hands like these usually mean, it gives quite unnerving implications, especially for Maya since this was in her chapter. Let me explain! About Maya Tendou and why I’m sad about her.

So we all know that Newtype has a protag/Akechi cover, but PASH also has a feature on Hoshi Soichiro (Akechi’s VA). So here are some Akechi related points of interest for me.
