The light that filtered through the windows was golden, almost, warm and comfortable and you were cozy and sleepy and smiling, giving yourself all the time in the world to wake up. You blinked your eyes open slowly and tugged the covers all the way up to your chin and shimmied a little further down into the warmth of the bed and for just a few seconds, enjoyed the feeling of being pulled closer.
Then you ripped open your eyes again and froze to the very tips of your toes.
You were being pulled closer.

You were behind the bar this evening, a rag in your hands as you wiped down the sticky wooden top for the bazillionth time and hummed along to the music coming from the jukebox. You were behind the bar most evenings, pouring beer and rum and whiskey and mixing cocktails (occasionally taking some sips of your own), smiling and laughing and flirting with customers left and right.
For the past few months now, the most regular of those costumers had been the Dagger squad.
They'd shown up here one random evening and hadn't left since. And it didn't seem like any of them would any time soon.
Not that you wanted them to, oh no. You had grown so close in so little time that it was scary at this point.

A grin seemed to just be etched into your features today. And it wasnât even that tonight was a good night or anything like that - no, there were just as many assholes as before, the shift was just as stressful and Hangman was just as annoying. Especially now, sliding back up to the bar with a smirk that you felt the familiar urge to wipe off almost immediately.
âFour more, Juniorâ, he winked. You just rolled your eyes, turned around without another word and got out four bottles of beer, putting them down in front of him and reaching for an opener just as he opened his mouth again. âYou seem awfully chipper today.â

Tyler Owens is the most annoying man you've ever met.
He prints his face on t-shirts, writes his autograph on mugs, comes up with ridiculous sayings ("Not My First Tornadeo" and "If you feel it, chase it" are really just the tip of the ice berg) and most importantly, he costs you the best shots of tornadoes every goddamn time.
Tyler Owens is a problem.
And Tyler Owens seems to have actively decided to make himself a problem too.

You sighed, rubbing at the space between your eyebrows. The math wasnât working out for you and if you couldnât get it to, your new proton weapon was never going to work. Youâd been going over the numbers for so long theyâd begun to swim in your vision when you looked up. Standing, you hoisted your laptop into your arms, carrying it with you.
âHey, Lars, can I get you to look at something?â
You looked up, expecting him to be alone at his desk, extracting paranormals from the latests junk that had been brought in. What you didnât expect was for there to be one of the interns standing beside him, head bent towards him. They both looked up towards you. The intern flushed, stepping back from Lars while he looked confused at the interruption.
âOh, sorry. I can come back later if youâre busy,â you said, not sure what youâd walked in on, but you felt your fingertips go numb.

He ached.
Ben had been composed. Eyes steady, knuckles white as he made his way to the bridge. He needed to regain composure, focus, control. But as he made is way through the corridors; he felt the Force flowing through him like a live wire in his veins.Â
Heâd been wounded before. Of course he had. Wounds that had snaked their way through the Force and coiled around him, poisoning the air he breathed. His Uncle. His father. His mother. His teacher. They had filled the oxygen in his lungs with fire and smoke, until he felt as though he were choking on his own blood.
But never like this. Never had he felt as though his very soul was compromised; his very heart wasnât his own. As though Kylo Ren was rotting away, killed by forces unseen. And as he approached command, he felt it. A ripple in the Force, calling to him, closer than it had ever been. And that was when they intercepted her ship.
***
Her fingers squeezed against the arm of the cockpit, violently shuddering as the X-Wing clattered out of lightspeed; a kaleidoscope of colour falling away. Almost immediately she opened comms, flicking the coloured switches above her head to signal to the main resistance ship that she had come into range.
The scene before her was chaos. Their flagship was being pelted by a constant barrage of cannon fire from the huge dreadnought; a series of smaller frigates in tow as they moved through space. The Resistance flagshipâs shields continued to hold their own against the onslaught, but she wondered for how long.
âFlagship, this is Black Leader requesting open communications channels. Do you copy, flagship?â she uttered, setting her status to cruise as she adjusted her helmet. Fear began to rise in her chest as the comm crackled, static ringing in her ears. ââŚ(y/n)? Is that you?â a familiar voice probed. Oh, but how sheâd missed it. âThat it is, Commander Dameronâ she smiled, turning on defensive shields with a nudge âreporting in, about sixty clicks off of your port sideâ. âYou have no idea how good it is to hear a friendly voiceâ Poe breathed, exasperation clear in his voice âbut youâve caught us in a tight spot, and thereâs been aâŚchange in leadership very recently.â (y/n) swallowed, eyes rolling. âDameron, did youâŚIs this another mutiny? Is that whatâs going on here?â Poe dropped to silence. âHey look, itâŚItâs complicated. Weâre working on it. Iâll fill you in when you dockâ.
She felt her blood go cold, then. Her hands suddenly unsteady, lips suddenly dry and cracked. âIâm not docking, Poe. Iâm on approach to the dreadnoughtâ she added, her voice cracking slightly at the end of the sentence. She knew what heâd say. Knew what theyâd all think. She heard several voices muttering, and felt her heart sinking. âAre you insane? Thatâs suicidal! Youâll get yourself killed!â Poe spat through the comm.Â
âI know what youâre thinking. But Poe, it looks like weâre out of options here, and I think I know how we can end this. Itâs now or never, and Iâm not waiting for an answerâ. âIf you turn off comms I swear to-â With her index finger, she neatly flicked the switch above her head, silencing the communications with the fleet. Readying her approach, she changed piloting to manual, and began her course for the dreadnought. As she did so, she felt her vision shift. The Force moved around her, as though she were being guided by it towards something. She closed her eyes, letting the feeling wash over her. One of comfort, belonging, peace.
And that was when her ship was intercepted.
***
Benâs jaw tightened, the leather glove clinging to his fist too tight around his knuckles. He could barely breathe, and his mind whirled. The tie fighters came into view, a crumbling X-Wing skidding into the hangar gracelessly, its exterior sparking against the metal wall. Several troopers were forced to abandon their posts in order to dodge the Resistance ship; and those who were unaware of Benâs orders loaded their weapons at the sight of the enemy warbird. When it skidded to a halt; Ben could hear his heartbeat in his ears.
And then the cockpit opened, and there she was.
He had known she would feel familiar to him, in some way. Prepared himself for the strange ache he had felt when the Force had linked them. What he didnât expect was that heâd be utterly moved by her presence. So hopelessly blind and lost, just by seeing her climb from that cockpit. She was magnificent. Radiant. The Force flowed around her as though she were a sun, and he had not prepared to battle himself, a war between Kylo Ren and Ben Solo, a mental shaking of wits that would grind his very being. Conflict that made him physically wince as she approached, her arms held on both sides by two troopers. She had donned a Resistance jacket, emblazoned with the logo heâd come to despise. Beneath it, her robes flowed and cascaded, the Force moving as they moved. He tightened his face, steadying his eyes. Any lack of composure could see them both killed.
As she reached him, her eyes remained steady on his face. In them, he saw nothing. No hatred, nor anger, nor pain. No joy, no contentment, no yearning. Only a hint of recognition burned in her expression, and nothing more. And that terrified him. One of the troopers fastened her hands with cuffs, and she obeyed without question. She was silent, and although he felt their bond through the Force; he dared not reach out to it. Snoke had too many eyes here. He began towards the lift, undeniably aware of her following behind him. He reached it, keying in the code as the troopers lightly shoved her in beside him. She gave the troopers an uneasy glare as Ben kept his eyes forward, fists aching as his nails dug into the leather from such extreme pain of proximity. The doors closed, and they were alone.
Silence. Ben dared not look at her. Dared not break his resolve. He felt as though if he even glanced across for a moment, this would all be for nothing. All of his willpower would shatter like glass, and everything would change. The Force blazed off of her like wildfire, and he could feel it reaching to him. Calling to him. If he let her in, he wondered if itâd burn him alive. âBenâ she breathed. And it all started falling away.
***
âBenâ she breathed, her eyes lingering on the dark circles under his eyes. Bruises from sleepless nights, alone in the dark. She knew it more intimately than she knew herself; how acutely alone he was, when the nights stretched on and on. She could feel the jagged edges of the Force that were radiating from him; such intense and powerful conflict and concentration, a man who was sharp and dangerous and devastatingly torn. The dark curls of his hair licked at his jaw, and she wondered whether sheâd loved him even when she hated him. Maybe it was all the same thing, now.
She saw his lip tremble, Force shaking and pulling like electricity around him. And then, his eyes tore away to hers. The intensity of the moment was instant, and they were back at that campfire again. His jagged energy met her in the space between them, guiding them to one another like gravity. It was painful: his desire to hold her encompassed them both, and her longing to take this conflict from him made his hands shake.
âYou donât have to do thisâ (y/n) quietly said, taking several steps towards him. He didnât move away, but she felt the expression on his face change as she moved to him. His gaze held something more than desperateness; a softness, an intensity, a purpose. It moved through her like water, and returned it to him in kind. She could smell distant forests, old tomes, strange flowers. They radiated from him as she stared up at him, his lips slightly parted as he took in her words. âYou donât have to give in to Snoke. We have time, we can change this. Iâve seen your future, Ben, and I know that when the time is right, youâll defy him. Youâll turnâ she added, taking another step to him as the last few words left her lips. There were mere inches away from them now; but she wouldnât dare breach them. He was on a precipice, and she dared not force him.
âYouâre wrongâ he uttered, depth of emotion shaking his voice âIâve seen your future. Youâll join me. And thatâs how I know, when the time comes, youâll turnâ. Arms still dropped to his sides, he moved forward, two immovable objects colliding as they broke the space between them. So close that she could feel his breath on her face, feel the warmth of his robes against hers.
âIf this war had never happenedâ she whispered, swallowing hard âI wonder who we mightâve beenâ. Feelings of regret, sorrow, longing; they suddenly swam through her mind. She was almost certain they werenât her own, and as Ben Solo looked down at her, his gloved hand twitched against her own, lightly caressing her bare fingers. She smiled sadly, her thumb reaching out to carefully trace the edge of his wrist. The movement was so tender that she saw Ben close his eyes, a ragged breath escaping his lips. She leaned in, and he leaned his forehead against hers.
The contact of skin on skin made them both shiver; but it wasnât the Force this time. In fact; (y/n) felt no push and pull, no pain or sadness or longing or wonder. It was just her and Ben Solo, a broken boy and a lost Jedi. After what seemed like such a brief moment in time, his dark lashes fluttered as he tore himself away from her, with so much reluctance that she winced at his effort. The agony and conflict rose within him again, mixed with an emotion rarely found in him: intense, sickening fear. He stared straight ahead once more, and she wondered if it had all been a strange vision, conjured by her own mind.
But then the elevator doors opened, and she glanced around. And it was Kylo Renâs eyes she saw when she looked back.
Youâre Not Alone
Ben Solo (Kylo Ren) x Reader Minor spoilers for TLJ! Be warned!
Words: 2304 Plot:Â Ben and the reader share a Force Bond. They begin to build on it, and it becomes a crutch for both of them as they realise the Force has brought them together. A/N:Â I saw The Last Jedi tonight. Holy shit, Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley had superb chemistry. I absolutely loved his tortured performance, the cinematography; everything. So I wrote this. It utilizes some of the script, but most of this is my own work thatâs taken a bit of inspo from the film. Itâs more fun if you just go with it. Let me know what you think! I already sort of wrote the sequel but it got quite long so I chopped this in half. So you probs have that to look forward to. #dope
The first time he felt it; it was blinding.
His vision blurred, darkened as his pulse quickened. He heard the sound of rushing water, felt the breeze on his face. The briefest glance of sunlight, the feel of metal in his palm. He batted away the medical droid tending him with a dismissive swoosh of his arm; it whirred and darted off, fading into the background. Like a rising crescendo; he felt the Force pushing. Winding. Coiling towards him. The world spun. And there she was.
Lightyears away. Time and space and metal bulkheads separated them across the void of space: but she was here. She looked different. Felt different. The Force gave people away, somehow. The way it bent and shaped around a person, like rivers flowing over rock. The Force around her moved more like sunlight moved across the sea; deeper, softer, stronger than any heâd known. He felt a flood of comfort at her image. She looked healthy. Radiant, even. She recoiled, and he felt himself through her eyes. The Force moved through him like fire moved through a forest: but she was not afraid. Not afraid of the man who had threatened and hunted her. She was curious. She was angry. (y/n) reached for the blaster at her side, her face contorting as she aimed it at his chest. He felt her defiance; felt her jaw clench as though it were his own. And when the blaster fired, the wound was agony. Burning. He clenched his stomach, doubled over in pain.
But then it was gone. He rose to his feet a blink; cloak trailing at his feet. He still felt the shot, the pain aching in his gut. It was almost as though he saw her, standing just beyond his reach. She panted, face flushed as she moved away from him; crunching gravel ringing in his ears. He started down the corridor, the sound of her breathing guiding him. âCan you see my surroundings?â he asked, swinging back to look over his shoulder. He saw nothing of significance: the corridor stretched out behind him. His voice sounded strange, as though it were coming from a point somewhere above him. And when she spoke, her voice reverberated through his very being. âYouâre a murderer. And youâre going to pay for every last-â she started. He winced internally, gritting his teeth. â-I canât see yoursâ he continued, curiosity peaking as he stepped forward. He swore he could smell her perfume for a split second, and memories came flooding back to him in a haze that dizzied him. âJust you. Except, noâ he winced, the Force beginning to flow differently, violently, like a wound opening inside his chest âthereâs something elseâ.
But before Kylo Ren could see, his head throbbed. And when he blinked, he was alone on the ship. And that was the first time.
***
The second time, he stood with his arms crossed at his back. The hangar of The Finalizer stretched before him; troopers rushing to their fighters and repairing scuffs on the hull. And when the pull came this time: he didnât fear it. He welcomed her, and the bond clicked instantly, her figure appearing before him as she stood in the rain. A cowl was draped around her shoulders, her face dusted by the light of distant stars. She had begun wearing her hair looser, and Kylo Ren found his lip quivering upward. She was silent; deliberately so. Her stubbornness reverberated through his veins like morphine in his system. âWhy has the Force connected usâ he breathed âyou and I?â. Her face twisted: feelings of anger rising in her lungs. âMurderous snake!â she spat, her fingers clenched tight into fists âyouâre too late! Rey left to find Skywalker. The Resistance destroyed one of your frigates. Itâs only a matter of time before your regime will crumble-â âIs that what you think will happen?â Kylo Ren asked, his expression composed. Despite her being a separate entity, he felt her running through him. Felt her voice on his tongue. Saw himself through her eyes. He wondered if heâd ever hated himself more than he did in that moment.
âIâve seen itâ (y/n) said, her eyes dead set on his. In the depths of colour he saw reflecting back at him, he saw the energy. The balance of all things. The steady breeze, the bite of cold. The Force was growing in her, and it was becoming harder for him to turn away. He felt exposed; and he knew that she did, too. Beneath the anger and the pain that flowed between them like a river, there was vulnerability. They had access to the deepest parts of one anotherâs souls, and Kylo Ren was sure that nobody would like what they found. âYou have. Youâve got that look in your eye. From the forest. When you called me a monsterâ he muttered, clenching his jaw. The memory of her words was like ice in his veins; when she had looked at him with all the hatred she could muster. And then her mind recoiled from the pain of it all. âYou are a monsterâ she hissed, turning away from him and up towards her ship. âYes I amâ, he muttered to the wind.
***
He had been thinking of her ever since. He couldnât stop. Couldnât stop himself. He felt as though he was losing parts of his mind; pieces breaking and snapping away to leave him exposed. Their minds had become irrevocably linked. His thoughts were occasionally sidetracked by hers, and he often saw her in his dreams. But there wasnât time and distance between them, then. And in those hours, he wondered why heâd let her wound him so deftly. He was exhausted when he returned to his quarters one cold night, and pulled his shirt above his head. The muscle on his stomach was corded tightly from years of training, and ached from all the tension. And when he thought of that ache, he thought of her hands, her breath on his neck. And then he felt that pull, and he felt his heart ache with longing.
(y/n) was looking away from him, eyes down as she leaned against the wall of a ship. He knew she had been recruiting for the Resistance; knew that when Rey had chosen to leave, she had been far, far away. He knew that she was dedicated to the cause. âBen, Iâd rather not do this nowâ she sighed. She appeared more opaquely than ever to him: as though she were leaning against the metal walls of his quarters. It made him shiver, and he repressed the thought hard. Her words barely escaped her mouth before he realised they were a lie. And his name. His name on her lips sent him reeling, scuffling in the darkness, until he barely remembered that Kylo Ren had ever been real, and not some boyâs made up dream from long ago. âYeah, me tooâ he lied, biting his lip as he shuffled. She paused, rubbing her hands together. He felt as though he was drunk, or some manner of concussed. His thoughts were too clouded by emotions that he didnât understand; a mess of hers, a mess of his. The same emotions, spun back and forth between them until he wasnât sure which way was up. âWhy did you listen to Sno-â she began, and immediately he felt her flood with shock and embarrassment. The Force moved around her strangely, pushing in all directions from the suddeness of it all. He must have looked very real to her, too. She was staring at his stomach, his bare torso. He stood up, and he felt her emotions shifting.
They were, surprisingly, not negative. âDo you have a cowl or something you can put on, something to-â she cut off, her eyes dropping to the floor. Taking a deep breath to collect her thoughts, she began again. âWhy did you join the First Order? You had a chance to do something better. You had parents who loved you!â âI didâ Ben replied, his heart hammering. âThen why?â âDid you ever ask my mother? Did you ever ask her why?â he asked, and he felt her pull back, pull away. Not physically, but mentally. Emotionally. As though she were choosing to become less real. He reached out with the Force, pulling her back, and she didnât resist. âYes. And she still believes you can be savedâ (y/n) replied, her hands physically shaking. Ben stopped, stopping himself. Reminding himself that this was incorporeal. That he didnât have to respond. And yet⌠âDo you?â he asked âDo you think I can be saved? Theyâll sense the power in you too. Luke, Snoke. You wonât know itâs happening until itâs too lateâ he swallowed, feeling the fire in his lungs. âLet the past die. Kill it, if you have toâ he said âthatâs the only way to become who you were meant to beâ. And then he felt the connection snap like a band, pulling him back into reality. And even though he didnât have her answer, he already knew what it was. He wished he believed her.
***
(y/n) warmed her hands by the fire, the bitter breeze stinging at them. She was way out of communicator range with the fleet - but she had managed to recruit a good handful of fighters. In times like these, every boot on the ground was another victory. She sat in her makeshift campsite next to her ship, feeling the distance of it all. She missed Poeâs stupid laugh; missed the way her squadmates had always teased her about her âForce Mumbo Jumboâ. But more than anything; she missed Ben Solo. Theyâd barely even met. She had made it her goal to keep her distance from Force Users - sheâd heard the stories. Theyâd all heard them. Most believed they were stories. But Ben Solo? He was real. She saw the pain, the fear, the anger. But there was more good in him than she could explain: and the conflict in him was real. She focused on that thought; focused hard. The Force shifted, reaching out to him, soft and quiet.
And then, he was there. Opposite her.
He was beautiful, in his own way. Dark haired, pointed face. His eyes held the look of someone far older than his years, and his stance conveyed grace she had never known. She knew his mind intimately. Knew his fears. Knew his soul. âBenâ she breathed. She felt his blood burn at the sound of his name on her lips, and it made her head spin. â(y/n)â he added, his gaze affixed on her with intensity. She felt so overwhelmed by it that she was forced to look away; she felt his heart jump as he felt it too. âI donât know why Iâm even doing thisâ she added, frustration colouring her voice âI came out here to find my place in the galaxy. To find out who I want to be. But I feel so alone in itâ.
She could hear her voice as though it moved through them, and his eyes moved to the fire. She wondered if he could see it; she had noticed now that she could see two very separate places. But they bothâŚcoexisted. She was constant. He was constant. âYouâre not aloneâ he added. His words came with such sincerity as his eyes moved to hers; the distance between them began to feel so acute. âNeither are youâ she smiled softly. She watched as Ben drew a shallow breath, his gloved hand on his lap twitching. She could feel the agony in him. Feel the longing to reach out, feel the longing to make them both real. âIt isnât too lateâ she whispered, slipping her hand out from under her cloak. She held it towards him; unsure if they could even touch without reality closing in around them. Without the Force leaping back and destroying them both in the flames.
He stared at her fingers, at the curve of her palm. She saw the last moment of finite resistance leaving him, the last pieces of Ben Solo filling in the cracks between them. His eyes then met hers, and he slowly slipped his glove off of his hand. She felt as though she were in physical pain, but she couldnât place how or why. The pain of their separation across the galaxy was worse than any wound sheâd ever had.
So when he moved his hand out, gently towards hers, she felt the space between them aching as though it were alive. She audibly gasped, and the intensity of his stare was dead set upon her. And then, Ben Solo lightly pressed his fingers against hers.
The feeling was instant and sudden. They both released the air from their lungs, the Force moving between them like one entity, a current that connected all things. She saw his soul, and her soul; the same and different, all at once. They could barely move, for the moment was like nothing theyâd ever known.
Benâs whole body seemed to shake; his eyes alight. There was such conflict, such passion, such depth to his soul. She would never have known. Never have seen. And then she involuntarily felt her mind pulling back as someone called her name. The bond began to shudder, and she couldnât seem to grasp hold of it again. âNoâ Ben breathed, pushing his palm to hers with urgency, desperateness contorting his features âpleaseâ he begged. Thoughts cascaded through her; his loneliness, emptiness, pain. Fear of losing her. Fear of what this meant. Uncertainty, longing, distance.
She opened her mouth to comfort him, but he was gone. And everything had changed.

Can I Have This Dance?
So can I have this dance? Can I have this dance?
(Y/N) sighed sadly as she sat by herself on a table drinking her third Butterbeer. This wasnât how it was supposed to go. She had been so excited about the Yule Ball. She found the perfect dress, perfect hairdo, perfect shoes, perfect makeup and she thought she had the perfect date. Cormac McLaggen. She couldnât believe it when he asked her to be his date. He was one of the most handsome guys in school and he had asked her out of all the girls. When they walked into the Great Hall it looked beautiful decorated with Christmas lights everywhere and snow falling from the ceiling. (Y/N) felt like everything was too good to be true, and apparently, it was. After the first dance, she got into a fight with Cormac because he was looking at another girl and he quickly ditched her saying that âshe wasnât good enough for him anywaysâ. She stood there shocked and saw him walk over to a group of girls and mindlessly flirting with them right in front of her. But she was too proud to show any sign of sadness for that jerk. So she decided to stay. She had spent too much time and money on tonight to just let it down the drain. She even had a bit of fun with her friends for a while before a slow song came on and they all went dancing with their dates. And thatâs how she ended up here; sitting by herself with the third Butterbeer in hand. When the song finished and another one came on, one of her favorite songs, she decided she had had enough. Turns out the night hadnât turned out quite how she expected.
âLeaving so soon?â she heard a voice asking her when she was about to stand up.
She turned around to face Draco Malfoy sitting next to her and smiling. She hadnât even noticed when he got there. She found it a bit odd since he had never really paid much attention to her. She had had a bit of a crush on him for a long time now, but she was a muggle-born, so she knew it was hopeless. Then again, he had never been mean towards her which was also odd, since he was mean to the rest of muggle-borns.
âUm, yeah, I think Iâm going to call it a nightâ she said with a weak smile.
âThatâs too badâ he said surprising her as he finished his drink. âI was hoping I could have this dance?â he asked standing up and offering her his hand.
(Y/N) raised one of her eyebrows confused. Draco Malfoy was asking her to dance with him? She turned around to make sure he wasnât talking to anybody else and then looked back at him. âMe?â she asked still not believing it.
And then, she saw him do something she had never seen him do before; he laughed. âYes, (Y/N). Youâ he said taking her hand gently and leading her towards the dance floor.
âI- umâŚâ she said still not believing everything but still going along with it.
Draco placed one of her hands on his shoulder before placing his hand on her waist and grabbed her other hand in his. The two of them started to slow-dance to the song, (Y/N) still a bit confused about it all.
âSo, how come a pretty girl like yourself was going to leave so early?â he asked all of the sudden. He was being surprisingly kind in (Y/N)âs opinion. And did he just called her pretty?
âWell, I uh- sort of got dumped by m-my dateâ she said awkwardly looking down.
âWhat?â he asked shocked. âWho was your date?â
âCormacâ she told him.
âMcLaggen?â he said glaring at the boy who was snogging some other girl in the corner. âWhy did you come with him?â
âWell, because he askedâ she said in an obvious tone. âAnd well, I donât know he was pretty charmingâ she said not really knowing why she was explaining herself to Draco Malfoy.
âHeâs an ass is what he isâ Draco blurted out. (Y/N) glared at him a little but laughed when she realized he was right.
âWell, I know that nowâ she admitted. âI didnât think he was going to dump me after the first danceâ she informed him.

âMy patience wears thin so I will say this one more time,â a man spoke, his face not visible from your point of view. You held your breath and hid beneath the floorings, just like your mother told you to. You saw the feet of two Stormtroopers take a step towards your mother, their guns raising up. âGive us the one who was promised, the one you call Saviour, and weâll be on our way. Failure to comply will result in death. Your death.â
Your six-year-old heart beated rapidly as you watched on from below. Your hair was an unruly mess and dirt covered your face. You were trying your best not to move, afraid youâd be in front of what you assumed were the âbad guysâ. âSheâs not here, I already told you. The Saviour is but a rumour, a myth. You are wasting your time.â
It was your fault. If only you had kept your âpowersâ, as your mom called them, hidden. She told you, no she demanded, that you mustnât ever use them. And you did. But it wasnât your fault.
You see, the villageâs bully had thrown your doll on top of the tree. When you thought no one was looking, you managed to use the force to bring it back towards you. You didnât understand this âpowerâ you had, you were but a small child. But your mother did. And she did everything in her power to keep it hidden.
But the fact is, someone was watching. In particular, it was the old lady who lived across from you. She was from the unfortunate end of the riches scale and had clothes with multiple stitches across the fabrics.
The man chuckles, walking over to your mother. He places a loose strand of her hair behind her ear, your mother flinching as his finger makes contact with her skin. The grip of your hand on the doll tightens in fear. âYou scavengers are so gullible. Did you really think your own neighbours wouldnât rat you out for a couple of credits?â
Your motherâs eyes widened, now shaking her head rapidly. âPlease, please, please donât do this! Sheâs just a little girl! Donât you understand that the Dark Side is not the way of life! Itâs not too late to change sides, you can still follow the light!â
âThe light,â the man started, circling around your mother before the clicks of the guns that the Stormtroopers held rung across the room. âIs a joke. You want to bring balance to the world yet you use weak, primitive methods to reach the objective. And where did that lead to exactly? The exitinction of the Jedi? The rise of the First Order? The light is pathetic and weak.â
He then takes a step back before looking at the Stormtroopers, nodding his head. Multiple shots rang, before a âthudâ was heard. And there she was. Your mother. On the floor. The women you raised you, the women who would rip her own clothing just to make you a blanket, was now gone. âHopefully I get a promotion for bringing in the stupid little girl.â
Tears streamed profusely down your face as your motherâs face fell exactly in the flooring in which you were hiding under. You held the doll against your mouth, desperate not to let out a squeak, desperate not to cry in case you might reach the same fate as your mother. âSearch every inch of this place. The child must be here-â
âGeneral! Luke Skywalker has penetrated our defences! I repeat, Luke Skywalker has-â, the transmitter went silent. The General let out a groan, smashing the transmitter against the wall. Pieces of the machinery fell against the wall as the General breathed in and out heavily.
âLetâs get out of here before that mongrel catches up to us!â He yelled at the Stormtroopers, before storming out, stepping on your motherâs back on the way out. Your hands were shaking and when you heard a plane fly away, you let out the first of many sobs.
You got up from your position, running over to the secret door on the floor. You opened it before climbing out and rushing towards your motherâs now cold and soulless body. âMom?Mom! You have to- you have to get up! P-please mommy! You- you have dinner to make, a-and then we go shopping mommy. You promised mommy, you promised.â
But your mother did not respond, making you cry even more. As a child, you did not know exactly what this meant. You did not know that it was impossible for your mother to open her eyes and look at you one more time. âMommy please! You can wake up from sleepy time, the bad man is gone now.â
You heard the door slowly creak open, making you jump back in fright. You were shakingly violently, hugging the doll in fright. A foot stepped in, before a man with a grey beard and unruly hair walked in. You then ran in front of your mother, trying to protect her. âGo away! You canât hurt mommy! I have powers so you- you should be very scared!â
The old man smiled at you, putting his hands up to show you he was not going to hurt you. That he was but a friend and not a foe. He looked at you in sadness as he saw your motherâs dead figure lying on the floor.
âHello Y/N. My name is Luke Skywalker.â
One Week Later
You sat by yourself at the Jedi Temple, eating a bowl of steamed rice. ďżźAfter a week of travelling in harsh, hot conditions with Luke Skywalker, you finally found yourself able to rest on a rock carved as a seat and a table made out of the erosion of limestone from the sea.
You heard the chatter of some Padawans who were laughing and talking with one another, obviously having known each other for a year or so. You were a late Padawan, but as Luke had said, it did not matter. His own father, Anakin, trained to be Jedi at the age of 9, three years later than yourself.
It was your first day and you had yet to make new friends. ďżźItâs not like you wanted to anyway, after what you have been through.ďżźďżź You were now very wary when meeting new people, especially people who were three times your age like Luke himself.ďżź Youâd always analyse your environment, trying to see if any threats surrounded your peripheral vision.
âCan you believe it Almec? That Solo boy killed a bird! How is he still training to be a Jedi?â A boy cried as he walked inside the temple with his friends, holding a bowl of rice. âHe should be expelled! He has no care for life or the ways of the Jedi!â
âLuke is obviously deseperate for more Jediâs if heâs allowing a murder like him to train with us,â another boy spoke, who you assumed was Almec. He had daring green eyes and devilish brown hair. He looked at you as he walked by, making you quickly look down at your food in embarrassment, red prominent on your cheeks. Him and his friends then took a seat a table away from you. âHeâs only getting special treatment because he has Skywalkerâs blood in him.â
Deciding you were done with your food, you got up and walked inside the kitchen, placing your bowl near the sink. After you were done washing up your bowl, you walked back inside the eating area and headed towards the exit. As you were walking out, you made eye contact with Almec. This time he gave you a small smile in which you returned before hurriedly out of the Temple and into the environment.
You breathed in the fresh air as you slowed your pace, desperate to take in the serene environment around you. The Jedi temple was located in an empty piece of land with endless vast of grass. There were also trees that grew amongst the edge of the island and some in the centre and around the temple.
There were also huts the surrounded the temples and were scattered around the island. There was 8 to be exact. All Padawans were paired with another of the same sex in each hut. Luke had his own hut and because you had just came yesterday, you got your own hut all to yourself.
âI canât save it,â you heard a voice in your head speak. You stopped in your tracks, confusion filling your mind. It wasnât just confusion, it was fear. But it wasnât your own. You then looked into the forest and felt it calling you, felt it calling your name. So you started walking towards the forest.
âI canât save it,â you heard the same voice speak. You then realised this wasnât someone talking, but it was someoneâs thoughts. Specifically, a boyâs thoughts. You wandered into the forest, hearing the ocean far away hitting the rocks. You kept walking, looking around to find something, someone.
âI canât save it.â
âSave what,â you kept thinking, as you moved the branches of trees away from your face in order to progress further. You then stopped, seeing a mop of black hair. His back was towards you, holding something in his hand.
You felt an instant connection towards him. You felt like you had to protect him and that you could trust him with your life. It was weird, because someone had just murdered your mother yet here you are, willing to trust a stranger.
It seemed like he had felt it too as he quickly turned around, his eyes now on you. Your eyes widened in shocked, now scared that he caught you looking at him. But that was quickly forgotten when you saw a dead bird in his hands, itâs wings chopped off. You let out a scream, moving backwards. Your legs however tripped over a branch on the floor you did not see, making you fall in the ground.
You were about to run away before you heard his voice, in particular, the voice you heard in your head just minutes ago. âWait please! Please! It- it isnât what it looks like!â
You then looked at him, your breathing still erratic. You were scared but somehow you felt like you should stay, like you should listen to what he had to say. He then gulped, taking a step forward. This had made you crawl backwards, trying to keep distance. The boy had seen this and felt a rush of pain within his heart. He did not what you to be scared of him like the others. He did not know you, but you were new. He had a chance to finally form a friendship and he messed it up.
âMy- my name is Ben. I found the bird dead, itâs wings chopped off. I- I think it was an animal that did this,â he explained, looking at you directly in the eyes. He then took a step forward and this time you did not move back. âIâm trying to- Iâm trying to save it. I heard about this power where a Jedi could heal things and I thought I could do it too. Apparently I canât do that, I canât do anything right and now you are probably scared of me like everyone else-â
You watched as the 8 year old boy rambled on and on, seeing the look of rejection and desperation in his eyes. It seemed that Ben was used to it now, the rejection. But still, that didnât stop the pain and feeling of unworthiness that tagged along with it. You got up from the ground, with Ben still rambling about how he was trying to save the bird.
And you believed him. So to save him and you from the misery of his rambling, you decided to cut him off.
âIâm Y/N.â
13 Years Old
You breathed heavily as you dodged the incoming lightsaber that swung above your head. You then brought your lightsaber close to you, attacking your opponent. Your lightsabers both hit each other at the same time, letting out a loud mechanical hum.
âCareful, youâre going to break my âsaber,â Ben joked, dodging your attacks. Luke and the other Padawanâs watched on as the both of you battled each other. It almost looked poetic how you both fought, it looked indentical. Both of you had the same fighting stance, offensive and defensive moves. You both matched each others steps like dancing partners.
âItâs ugly anyway,â you replied before taking steps back. You then ran towards him, Ben readying up to defend himself. As you came close to him you slid down, using the back of the lightsaber to hit the back of his knee. This threw Ben out of balance, causing him to fall and within a secound you stepped on his chest, the lightsaber now in close proximity to his neck. âI win.â
The Padawans all clapped expect Almec and his friends who watched. Almec felt a rush of jealously fill his body. For 7 years, Almec has been trying to speak to you, trying to be your friend. The 15 year old boy would be lying if he said he did not feel an attraction towards you. You were gorgeous, had a blinding smile and a beautiful sense of justice and leadership. But somehow, you only looked at Ben, not him. Ben was your closest and only friend and because of this, Almec resented the raven-haired Padawan.
He always found himself competing with Ben, trying to one-up him all the time. Trying to impress you. But you only had eyes for the Solo boy. Everyone in the Jedi Temple can smell the testosterone battle between Ben and Almec whenever they were up against each other during training, exams and learning of the force. But Ben had always been the best student, only secound to yourself.
Luke Skywalker got up from his feet, making you and Ben take a knee out of respect. You were both panting from the sparring match you had both just partook in with each other. âMaster, we hope you are proud with our progression.â
âYou are both holding back on your hits,â Luke had spoke, causing all the Padawans to stop clapping and go quiet. âIt is obvious you both cannot un-bound yourself from wordly attachments due to the clinging need of emotional attention and devotion from each other. You both are therefore banned from sparring with each other.â
âBut Master Luke-â you protested, getting up from your position. Ben stayed in his position, an angry look on his face like it was to be expected from the Skywalker man.
âI donât want to hear it!â Luke had spoken, getting up from his position. You looked down, your cheeks reddening in embarrassment for being told off in front of everyone. âIt is final. Ben you will now spar with Almec and Y/N you will now spar with Lierra. This will persist until the remainder of your Jedi training.â
Luke looked at you both one last time before turning around and walking out the door. All the Padawans got up and begun leaving the room. Almec in particular had a little smirk on his face as he left the room. You looked at Ben who was staring and the floor in anger and fury. You shook your head, chasing after your master who had left the room.
âMaster Luke!â You called out as you saw his retreating figure down the hall. Luke let out a sigh, stopping in his tracks before turning around to face you. He then lifted his eyebrows up, waiting to listen to what you have to say. âI think- I think Ben Solo has been a great sparring partner. I really feel like Iâve progressed with him and Iâve learned a lot-â
âIâm doing this for your own safety,â Luke cut you off, your face now slowly filling with confusion. Luke let out a second sigh, shaking his head. âY/N, I consider you as one of my own and I give you this one advice. Stay away from him. I know heâs my nephew, but heâs erratic and thereâs anger in him. Iâm trying- Iâm trying to do my best to bring out the light in him, but I donât want you to be involved in the process. Itâs too dangerous. Try being friends with Almec. Heâs a good boy.â
You clenched your jaw, your body filling with anger. âHis mother and father dispose him in this Temple and his own Uncle talks ill of him. How ridiculous. You should all be ashamed of yourself, depriving a boy of love and support. I will stay friends with him and Iâll always be there when he needs me to be. Thanks for your advice Master Luke, but no thanks.â
You then bowed quickly, before running back towards the sparring room, desperate to see Ben. When you walked back inside the room, you found Ben still in a kneeling position. You rushed towards him before bending down to his level. âBen, are you okay?â
âHe is such a selfish old man!â Ben spoke, finally getting up from his position. He then started pacing around the room, his fingers running through his hair. You stood up, watching him. âHe saw how powerful we were together, how well we fought together! And he separated us!â
âBen, maybe he was right. We were holding back on each other and we wonât progress if we keep holding back-â
âEven when weâre holding back Y/N we are stronger than all the other Padawans! Fuck, we are stronger than all the past Jediâs combined! You realise what we can achieve together Y/N? We can start the trials now! We can be the youngest Jediâs to ever exist! We can singlehandedly take over the Galaxy if we wanted to and that frightens him!â He yelled before punching the wall and creating a dent. He then felt a hand on his shoulder, your hand on his shoulder.
âBen, you must not think like that. We must obey Master Luke and listen to his words of wisdom even though we might not agree with it. Anger leads to the dark side,â you spoke gently, your thumb rubbing circles on his shoulder. Ben closed his eyes, focusing on your touch. He felt himself slowly calming down. Thatâs what you always did, you helped him calm down, you brought the light back into him whenever anger had consumed him.
He always thought that he was the moon and you were the sun. Without you, heâd be lost in the void of darkness. Without you, he would not be able to see the light.
âIâm- Iâm sorry,â his voice cracked as his shoulder slumped down. You nodded at him, giving him a hug. He closed his eyes, breathing in your addictive and heavenly scent. âIâm sorry.â
âHey, itâs okay.â
â˘
You sat on top of the temple as you and Ben tried to forget what had happened earlier. You both usually did this when everyone else was sleeping; sneak out and look at the stars, the planets. It was a nice getaway from all the Jedi nonsense and responsibilities that tag along with the title.
âCan I tell you something Y/N?â Ben spoke, lifting up his head and placing it on his hand to face you. You turned around with a smile, also facing him.
âYou can tell me anything,â you spoke. Ben watched as the moon reflected against your eyes, giving you an ethereal look. His face turned red as the intensity of your eyes, your beauty, was too much from him. You gave him this weird feeling inside of him and he felt a strong connection, a link, with you.
âAre you- are you scared of me?â He asked, his voice small as he was scared of your reply. You looked at him in shock, shaking your head at him.
âNo, why would you ask that?â
âI heard Master Luke speak to you, telling you to watch out,â He replied back, looking at his hands in vulnerability. âI try, you know. I try to be the best I can be. But when your own mother is scared of you, when your own Uncle warns people of you, itâs just-â
âDisheartening?â You finished for him. He clenched his jaw, trying to hold back his emotion as he silently nodded. You then grabbed his hand, giving it a squeeze. âI think that everyone was wrong to do that. Your mother, your father and your uncle are so wrong about you Ben. Youâre an amazing guy. Youâre sweet, compassionate, a leader and a hero. You shouldnât listen to anyone who tells you otherwise.â
âYou are amazing,â he also heard you say, but your mouth didnât move. He was confused, thinking his mind was playing tricks on him. But then he realised it was your thoughts. It was a Jedi Power, to be able to read minds. However, you were the first person he could ever read the mind of, which threw him off.
âThank you,â Ben replied back after a while, shaking his thoughts of reading your mind out of his head. However he did it, he didnât want to do it again. He felt like he was invading your privacy. âYou are the only person whoâs ever been there for me, whoâs ever cared. And I owe you an eternal debt that I know could never be repaid-â
You interrupted him, smashing your lips against him. This took Ben by surprise, now too frozen to reply respond to your kiss. He couldnât think properly, let alone move. He couldnât stop thinking about your soft, wet lips against his, grazing his ever so delicately. He felt all the nerves within him fire, this being his first ever kiss, now imprinted forever in the back of his mind.
But right as soon as he was going to kiss back, right when his thoughts finally made sense, you had pulled back. He felt the coldness from the absence of your lips. He was so close, just a secound longer and he wouldâve replied back to your kiss. But he was too late.
âIâm- Iâm so sorry! I didnât mean to-â you begun before letting out a groan as your whole face went red. You did not know what had gotten over you. He was just rambling, looking dashing as ever and you had an instinct, an impulse. âOh god, this is so embarrassing! I mean, I canât believe I just kissed you!â
You didnât mean anything by that last statement, but Ben felt a deep pang inside his chest. The anxiety and depression had further grown tenfolds within him and he felt like the most unwanted living thing in the world. Ben retracted back, finding it hard to breathe.
Was kissing him really that bad, he had thought. Were you really repulsed and turned off from him that kissing him that it was unbelievable and disgusting?
âCan we- can we just forget this happened please?â You asked him, removing your hands to look at him. Ben couldnât speak so he just nodded at you, gulping. You nodded back before getting up in a hurry. âWell, Iâm pretty tired so Iâll just head to bed. Iâll see you tomorrow for breakfast?â
Ben nodded for the second time today as he watched you quickly scurry off. He then lifted his hand up, his fingers grazing against his lips. He could still feel your lips against him, like a ghost. Him not being able to kiss you back will forever play as nightmares in his sleep. It was his one and only chance to kiss you and now he will never taste your lips ever again.
When you were finally out a sight, Ben clenched his jaw, smashing his fist against the roof beneath him. He then looked up at the sky, feeling isolated and outcasted.
âDid you really think you might actually have a chance with her?â He had heard a voice call out, this time a male. He quickly got up, now alert. He pulled out a lightsaber, now in attack mode as he kept spinning around to try to find the source of the voice.
âWho are you!â Ben had called out, feeling fear at the sound of the voice. He then gulped, seeing that there was no one in sight. Wind blew against leaves on the trees, making a rustling sound. There was an owl hooting meters away from him.
âYou will soon find out, my young protĂŠgĂŠe.â
