So, I have been struggling to find a job because of the whole "I don't have experience" conundrum. But, I've seen a lot of people on Tumblr doing this lately, and I figured that I can finally make money doing something I love.

I got into fanfiction in 2018, kinda dropped off as real life got in the way, but as we were emerging from lockdown, I resurrected my AO3 account. Be my enabler.
I have been enabled. Trigger warning for general discussion of religion, both as a normal way of life and in terms of fanaticism, as well as discussions of past abuse and period-typical behavior.

- Matthew and Rosemary actually first met during the events of The Sinner. They literally ran into each other when Matthew was on his jog.
- Matthew is polite to her, though (he stillΒ has no idea how to talk to her), and that throws her off a little. She also thinks that he's handsome and she hates herself for letting that thought cross her mind.
- After that first encounter, she concludes that he means well and that he's passionate about the Word of God, but a few things that he had said to her alerted her to the "fire and brimstone" style of preaching.
- Rosemary has a very complicated relationship with Christianity because of her father and how he used the Bible to justify his abuse of her, her sisters, and their mother (which they were able to escape).
- I know she wasn't in the episode, but I headcanon that she was there when Matthew showed up drunk off his ass on the Recipe.
- Rather than being shocked, she found it a little entertaining, but she also felt a little sorry for him.
- This humbling moment for him that also steers him towards a more compassionate and gentle way of preaching allows her to finally warm up to him.
- When Lutie Bascomb burns down the schoolhouse in anger towards Rosemary for teaching evolution, Matthew (even though he wasn't in the episode) was one of the townspeople who helped to put out the fire.
- He also feels some guilt about it, as he had been taught in that same mindset that Lutie Bascomb had, and he foots the bill for most of the replacement books for the school as an apology.
- Rosemary also finds herself visiting the church a lot after the fire to talk with Matthew, confiding in him about her nightmares of being in the schoolhouse when it was set aflame, or of Lutie Bascomb morphing into her father.
- This is the point where a true friendship begins to form between them, which is why she asks Matthew to go with her when she pleads for John-Boy to be allowed to take the entrance exam from his hospital bed.
- They start recommending and lending their favorite books to each other.
- During Rosemary's time in Norfolk when she's helping to look after her nieces and nephews while her sister recovers from an accident, she and Matthew exchange letters with each other.
- When they begin officially courting, Matthew finds himself surprised by how much he enjoys when they would sneak away from prying eyes, like into an alcove.
- Matthew proposes to Rosemary after officiating John and Olivia's vow renewal. Since he can't afford an actual ring, he uses a Bible ribbon instead.

[Part of my post-8x02 AU. Circa 1999. Jack and Janet are afraid that the twins are becoming too dependent on each other, so they move Reed into a new bedroom, but Hazel keeps using the Blackberry phone that she got for Christmas to call her brother]
Janet: Hazel, hang up on the phone. Your dad used up all our minutes for an important, uh, business call.
[The scene cuts to the living room where Jack is seen dancing on the couch to music coming out of the phone that he holds to his ear]
Voice: Hello, how may I help you today?
Jack: Can you put me back on hold, please?
Voice: Uh...okay.
[Hold music resumes before the scene cuts back to upstairs]
Hazel: But Mom, I have to call Reed! I think heβs--
Janet: [holding out her hand] Hazel, the phone, please.
[Hazel snarls at her mother like a feral cat]
Janet: Oh honey, come on. Give me the phone. I know this distance thing is difficult, but you clearly need it. This behavior reeks of unhealthy co-dependency.
Daisy: No, that smell is actually Hazelβs tribute to Reed over there.
[A miniature model of Reed that Hazel made of his dirty socks and gym clothes is falling apart as a bunch of gnats and houseflies are flying around it]
every time I see people talk about the Frighteners, I am mentally always jumping for joy because this film does not get the attention and love it damn well deserves

I will admit that I'm not as familiar with his work, but I do remember following him on social media during the pandemic and I always enjoyed seeing his posts.
When I saw the news pop up, I was listening to a cover of "How To Save A Life," so... I think something about this news will stick with me for a while.
