On the 7th of August, thirteen years ago, 2NE1 released their eleventh Korean digital single, Do You Love Me.
"Do You Love Me" is an upbeat dance-pop and electro-pop single, built around a bright, carefree sound with catchy hooks and energetic production. The song captures the excitement and uncertainty of asking for reassurance in a romantic relationship, showcasing 2NE1's playful charisma while maintaining their signature confidence and style.

Happy 19th anniversary to Girls' Generation!
Girls' Generation is one of the most influential and commercially successful girl groups in K-pop history. The group debuted on August 5, 2007, with the single "Into the New World," a song that initially received modest attention but later became an enduring symbol of hope, unity, and empowerment. Girls' Generation helped transform K-pop from a primarily domestic industry into a global cultural phenomenon, laying much of the groundwork for the international success of later generations of Korean artists.
Originally consisting of nine members—Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona, Seohyun, and Jessica —the group became an eight-member act following Jessica's dismissal in 2014. Despite the lineup change, Girls' Generation has continued to release music and celebrate major anniversaries together as eight members.
Girls' Generation's rise to prominence was fueled by a remarkable combination of polished vocals, synchronized choreography, approachable personalities, and an ability to adapt to nearly every pop genre. While many idol groups established a recognizable signature sound, SNSD became known for their versatility, effortlessly transitioning between bright bubblegum pop, elegant dance-pop, retro disco, R&B, electropop, synth-pop, ballads, funk, and contemporary pop. Their discography ranges from the youthful optimism of "Kissing You" and "Gee," to the sophisticated confidence of "Run Devil Run," the theatrical intensity of "The Boys," the emotional nostalgia of "All Night," and the celebratory maturity of "FOREVER 1."
The group's breakthrough came in 2009 with "Gee," a cultural phenomenon that dominated Korean music charts for months and became one of the defining songs of the second generation of K-pop. This was followed by a succession of blockbuster hits including "Genie (Tell Me Your Wish)," "Oh!," "Run Devil Run," "Hoot," "The Boys," "I Got a Boy," "Mr.Mr.," "Party," "Lion Heart," and "Holiday." Each era showcased a different visual concept while maintaining the group's reputation for immaculate choreography and memorable hooks.
One of Girls' Generation's greatest strengths has always been the distinct individuality of its members. Taeyeon is widely regarded as one of Korea's finest vocalists, Tiffany contributes a rich and expressive vocal tone, Seohyun offers stability and refinement, Sunny provides bright vocals and variety show charisma, Hyoyeon is recognized as one of K-pop's premier dancers, Yuri combines powerful performance with stage presence, Sooyoung is known for her wit and versatility, and Yoona became one of Korea's most recognizable actresses and advertising models. Rather than overshadowing one another, these contrasting personalities helped create a balanced group dynamic that resonated with fans around the world.
Internationally, Girls' Generation played a pivotal role in expanding K-pop beyond Asia. They achieved tremendous success in Japan, becoming one of the best-selling Korean acts in the country with hit singles such as "Genie," "Mr. Taxi," and "Paparazzi." They also promoted in North America and Europe during a period when global recognition of K-pop was still relatively uncommon, helping introduce international audiences to the genre years before its worldwide explosion.
Beyond music, the members have built successful individual careers across numerous fields. Taeyeon established herself as one of South Korea's most acclaimed solo singers, Hyoyeon pursued electronic dance music under the name HYO, Tiffany developed a solo career in both Korea and the United States, Yoona, Yuri, Sooyoung, and Seohyun became respected actresses, while Sunny has been active in radio and entertainment programs. Despite these individual pursuits, the members have consistently emphasized their bond as Girls' Generation, periodically reuniting for anniversaries and special projects.
Their 2022 studio album FOREVER 1, released to celebrate the group's fifteenth anniversary, was widely praised as both a nostalgic reunion and a confident statement that Girls' Generation remains a vibrant act rather than merely a legacy group. The album highlighted the members' artistic growth while preserving the warmth, optimism, and polished pop craftsmanship that have defined them since their debut.
Girls' Generation's influence on K-pop is difficult to overstate. They inspired countless girl groups that followed, helped establish many of the performance, marketing, and variety-show standards that define modern idol culture, and demonstrated that a girl group could achieve sustained success across music, television, fashion, advertising, and international markets simultaneously. Often referred to as "The Nation's Girl Group," Girls' Generation remains one of the most iconic and respected acts in Korean popular music, celebrated for their timeless songs, exceptional professionalism, enduring friendships, and lasting impact on the global growth of K-pop.

It's still so crazy to me they released one of the better pop albums of their era only to then get stuck in the dungeon... you'd think the quality of their music would've kept them going...
The thing with f(x) to me is that I never felt they were mistreated? Maybe, compared to Girls' Generation, but from 2011 to 2015 they released a studio album every single year, except 2012. If you compare them to their peers, miss A, SISTAR, Girl's Day, Wonder Girls, Secret and Rainbow each released two studio albums and 2NE1, 4Minute and 9MUSES released only one each during the same time period.
I'm not saying they had it easy, none of them ever do, or that their potential was fully utilised, but in an endless sea of EPs and single albums, I was always happy f(x) was at least getting consistent studio releases.

Speaking of quality music 😔 I'm sorry but I don't care what albums sold the best and won all the AOTY trophies and such, those albums certainly weren't on this level. This truly was conceptionally a phenomenal album.
Also I know we all wish for a WG 20th anniversary but what would that even be? Another band album or idol album? In a way going on when you're on top with this kinda music I think ends their legacy well
I think miss A has better chances of reuniting than them at this point
