“Loose objects are often the cause of trouble, especially those that are sharp.” Pandora seemed to watch with her own amount of caution, though, she was far more curious to see a knife go flying without the means of magic behind it. While it was a nifty idea to consider, she couldn’t see herself giving Xenophilius a heart attack if he walked into their house to see her throwing knives at the wall. “Have you ever let go of it too early? That would be an awful accident if it hit your foot.”

“Yes, as such you’re meant to be keeping sharp things stored in a casing, such as a cover or a sleeve,” Gideon agreed with his eyes focused somewhere deep in his bag as he rooted through it, until he found the knife and lifted it with a grin. “I’m finding that leather cases work well enough for storage of sharp objects in my bag- Oh.” He lifted his head, raising his eyes to Pandora and asking in a surprisingly serious tone of voice, “you do keep covers on your knives...? Yes...?” “I’ve never gotten to giving it a try for myself just yet, actually.” Gideon admitted with a bit of a chuckle, balancing the knife on the back of his hand. “But I am interested in the physics of knife throwing, as such. I’m sure knowing how the throwing is working, I could throw it well enough to stick.”

Gideon blinked, finally looking to Amycus and noting who he was. His lips pressed into a tight little smile, “so you’re knowing how to be throwing knives as well then, Carrow-?” His eyes followed the twirling of the other man’s knife before Gideon cut himself off, looking back to him, color prickling into his cheeks. He wasn’t so familiar with the tone Amycus was using with him, but it was making him awkward. “I’m knowing my own first aid well enough,” he shook his head but took the offered knife. Rather than explaining the science to Amycus, as he’d said he already understood, he turned to the wall and gave the knife a hard throw. It stuck a good inch into it, and Gideon’s fists shot up into the air above his head as he saw it, shouting excitedly. “Look- I’ve done it!”

“I’m sure you do,” he agreed with a little nod and a knowing smile, as if they were talking about something more pleasant than Bellatrix wanting to stick knives in people. “But we won’t be about doing that.” Gideon had the knife balanced on the backs of his fingers and was watching it teeter ever so slightly, he snorted and couldn’t help giggling a bit to himself at what Bella had to say. “The muggle way,” he repeated her words, taking a little breath, “as we’re calling anything that’s being done without magic, surely you’re not about doing anything ‘the muggle way’. I’m sure magic is pulling air in your lungs and bringing food to your mouth when you’re eating.” It would never cease to amuse him, the way that most wix referred to things as ‘muggle’. “If you’re thinking you can’t do it without magic,” he shrugged but gestured to the wall again, inviting her to do so.

“N-not really.” he was never that great at science in school, or school in general. His grades would suggest otherwise but fear dampened all of his abilities, especially the enjoyment of throwing sharp objects.    

“The knife isn’t having any sort of agency,” Gideon chuckled, “knives are inanimate objects!” All the same, he gave a little shrug and returned to slip the knife back into his bag. He hadn’t been intending to actually throw it when he’d taken it out, but now he was a bit disappointed he hadn’t gotten to try. He understood that something about it was scaring Peter more than usual. “You’re having a fear of knives, aren’t you? I’ll have to be keeping that in mind for later such times.”

“Excellent!” Gideon nodded at her prompt, absolutely giddy at the chance to explain the thought that went into the throwing of a knife. He stepped a bit closer as he explained, “firstly you’ll be needing a knife that’s properly balanced at such for the throwing.” As if to demonstrate, he balanced the knife on the back of his index finger, showing that his was evenly balanced between blade and handle.

“Hm-?” Gideon had his head shoved into his bag and Daisy’s voice was muffled. Popping back out again, knife in hand, he blinked at her for a moment before registering what she’d said with a grin, “we were discussing the simple machines and physics! I’m sure she wouldn’t be minding so much seeing as I can be fixing any damage that might be done. The throwing of one knife wouldn’t be doing much aside from one mark anyhow-” He hadn’t been planning to actually throw it in his explanation of the physics, but now he was indeed eyeing a stretch of bare wall across from them.

“I’m not planning to be hurting any people,” he reminded Peter, but took a few steps back when he was prompted. “Knives can be good for many such things too, things that aren’t involving the hurting of people. Cooking, carving, opening things, pruning plants, gardening in general...” He eyed the stretch of wall across from him as he spoke, but turned to glance back at Peter at the end of his tangent. “You’re not interested in the science of it?”

“What-? No, no, there won’t be any sort of magicking involved-” he spoke with his head stuck inside his bag, and pulled himself back out a moment later with his throwing knife in hand and a wide grin on his face. “You only need to be taking into account the science of it.”

Gideon paused, blinking back to Peter at the sound of the alarm in his voice, a soft smile taking his features as he shook his head gently. “Don’t be to the worrying of it, Peter- I’m certainly not planning to be hurting anyone, there are ways to be having fun and safe recreational knife throwing, you know.” All the same, he pulled the knife from his bag and made no move to throw it, yet. “It’s the physics of it that I find to be of such a fascinating sort.”
