armand "directed" the play where claudia died. but in theater, directing a play usually means you're putting on a production of a script that gets handed to you. in the context of a live production, it's really rare for the director to also participate in the script writing process, and the person who wrote the script is who decides, you know, what happens in it. (this is probably the default state of affairs just because most theater productions use a famous pre-existing script, like something by shakespeare or arthur miller or thornton wilder.)

so a lot of people interpret armand "directing" the play as him having ultimate control over it, like quentin tarantino coming up with and directing "kill bill." but i'm sitting here like, the script was clearly credited to santiago, sam, and lestat, and we have no reason to think armand had any real control over any of it. he did lie to louis for decades about certain things, and he was clearly complicit in claudia's death to an extent, but him directing the play does not mean it was his idea.

so did he actually "kill claudia?" are we expected to think he "killed claudia," even though season 2 showed so many times how armand may have been the director but he was not the one writing the scripts? i can't tell if i'm overthinking it, if people are constantly misinterpreting the reveal at the end of season 2, or if it's deliberately ambiguous what role armand played.

"But this time its different!" Its really not. The Cuban missile crisis almost had the world blow up, and it didn't. The cold war that set the stage for it existed in a constant state of the threat of nuclear annihilation.

Our world map today looks completely different from how it looked a thousand years ago. Nations and empires have risen and collapsed. Wars have been waged over petty bullshit that changed names and borders. Empires that were once thought invincible and perpetual crumbled to dust within a peasant's lifetime as they tilled their fields and worried about crop failure. The invention of flight, motion pictures, and the automobile chased the coattails of WWI and the great depression. Children played mischief games and elders complained about kids these days being too soft and sensitive during the fall of the Roman empire.

Our generational struggles are not uniquely terrible compared to any other generation's. Your life will not come to a dramatic and cinematic end to all of humanity and the world as we know it any time soon. The world will change and evolve as it always has throughout all of history and all of its constant perpetual bullshit, and you will continue to live on regardless of the outcome. Yes, even if you're queer. Yes, even if you're trans. Yes, even if you're neurodivergent. Yes, even if you're racialized. Set up your 401k and find ways to guard against becoming senile not if, but when you grow old.

#in a complete reversal of my previous expectations for dropout #season 8 of gc is very disorganized so far and carried almost completely by its cast #what happened

taskmaster has to cast groups of contestants that don't have much in common. that's how they get different personalities bouncing off of each other in the studio, different energy levels and approaches to figuring out and performing each task, and, on the ratings side, a wider audience, by casting comedians who appeal to different demographics of viewer. this results in iconic tableaus like jo brand and david baddiel leisurely strolling while ed, rose, and katie run, or the way the various eccentricities of julian, sam, and lucy in series 16 contrast with sue and susan's down-to-earth approach.

but it also means that it's actually quite likely that each series has someone that you, as an individual viewer, would normally prefer not to watch, and gives you a series with matt lucas as well as someone more relatable like chloe petts. the way it's built on the differences between individuals is also what compromises it sometimes.
