As I began this process, I remember thinking to myself: “What do I have to give to others that they would find useful?” As this process unfolded, I realized that I was just reaching people that I knew, and weren’t invested in the content that I was putting out. The interesting thing to note here is that I have always been the type of person to be one who “gives” more than I “get” and so I took this opportunity to write more meaningful content. 

The year began to progress, and I found myself beginning to question who I was reaching, not because I wanted more followers on social media, or because I want to become this “great” person, but I realized that unlike most people my age, they are spending more time on “a job” or “spending money” rather than living to serve another person's vision.

I am super passionate about being a person who champions other people to “build something that lasts” rather than “living for myself” and buying a bunch of meaningless stuff. I believe that everyone has a reason to purchase what they desire, or “need” but often that can be used to invest in somebody else's future or building something for a future generation. 

In the midst of living in a culture that is so “self-focused,” I am so convinced that we were meant to change the world around us, as we begin to embrace our lives and use it for a purpose, it will be changed, but the choice is up to us.

"There's a beauty about staying childlike, not childish, and not child hearted, but childlike, when we think and remain, child, like we have the world at our disposal. When we live and think this way, we are able to create without limitation, we aren't concerned by people's opinions, and were able to create just because it's what you love to do. Creating is a part of who we are, we are meant to create, so go out and create something new, something that's never been seen before."

Today, I have been thinking a lot about how our words impact those around us, if you think about it, it’s a common misconception within our culture today. Most people often say that “your actions are more powerful than your words’ and while I do agree that our actions do reflect our words or even the convictions in our hearts, our words can either make or break a relationship.

When I look at the example of the people who continue to inspire me, one example being Erwin McManus from Mosaic, he has been a person who walks out what he talks, and this is super inspiring. One of my mentors who walked me through a season of my life last year, Mike Cruz, he was always a person who was there for me, and coached me through how to lead people well, and to passionately pursue my own dreams. 

So, why am I telling you this? Well, each of the people that I mentioned to you was people who challenged my thinking, inspired me to continue to dream and go after the things in my heart. Which leads me to the next part that I want to cover with you guys, who you choose to surround yourself, you will become like those people.

Positivity is another subject that we will pursue later, but our words matter, the words that we say to those around us matter, we must use our words to inspire people, to challenge people, and to exhort them into their destiny. How are your words impacted those around you? Are you bringing life, correction, and inspiring them? Or are you bringing death, breeding negativity, and destroying those relationships? We have the opportunity to change our now and create a better tomorrow, the choice is up to us.

Today, I want to talk about the importance of sharing your story with the people around you. Have you ever thought to yourself  “Man, I’m not sure that anyone around me sees who I am outside of my Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc.” I know I have, I want to tell a story today that I believe will touch your lives and change your perspective. 

About a month ago I was running through my small home town and I ran into a friend that I went to school with when I was in High School. This person was super excited and about ran me over when she saw me, I was enthralled. I said, “How are you?” she replied “It’s so great to see you” and we began to have a conversation as if time had never passed. We started talking about really dorky and comical memories that we had just a few years ago. 

During this conversation, we got to a point in it that since that conversation has changed my entire way of viewing “myself, my brand, my logo, my online presence, and my person as a whole.” She said “Thank you for staying true to who you are, I remember when you were in high school and in some ways, you’ve changed, but in many other ways, you haven’t changed.

At that moment I almost began to cry, I realized that we live in a world where people are so fake, and self-focused, rather than building a future for the people to come, not just for ourselves. We live in a world where social media is the epitome of our lives, but we don’t spend time having a conversation with the people in front of us. We would rather spend time beating ourselves up because we don’t have “these many followers, this many likes” etc. or put hateful content out (tweets, posts, comments) to people that we don’t TRULY know. 

This is both a problem and an opportunity for us to change the way that we view people, ourselves, and life as a whole. The only way that we can change this is by changing our perspective, and the lens that we view through. When is the last time that you said something positive to the people around you? Are your bringing people up, or are you bringing them down?
