ok so my most controversial bruce wayne headcanon is that, sometimes, he reads to me as agender; more specifically the way he finds solace in his Batman identity. hear me out — bruce obviously knows how to perform masculinity. he’s hyperaware of the fact that he’s attractive, charming, strong, and he’ll use that to his advantage. the “billionaire playboy” thing isn’t just for fun, it’s a tool. he does care how bruce wayne is perceived because it’s useful: it helps his charitable work, throws people off the scent of who he really is, and keeps up a cover that protects batman. so like, yeah, masculinity and social perception are things he’s fluent in, but they’re not where he finds comfort.

where he finds solace is in being batman, and batman is bigger than gender. when he puts on the cape and cowl, he’s not just a man anymore, he’s a myth, a symbol. even though his body is built to highlight his strength and power, the way batman presents himself often obscures that.

wrapped up in the cape, reduced to a silhouette, becoming just a pair of eyes in the dark: he stops being “a guy in a suit” and turns into something amorphous, untouchable, almost concept-like. it’s why criminals don’t just see him as a man, they see him as a shadow, as fear itself.
