Webbing lifted Gwen into the air and she affixed herself so that she hung upside from the fire escape and looked down at Peter. “Nope. Came close though. Hi, Peter.” 

Holding up a hand, the symbiote crawled down Gwen’s arm until she had her gloves on. “Better?”

“Thanks for the support, guys.” Gwen snorted. “Really coming in clutch here. I figured you guys would want the positive press.” 

“Don’t they say it gets worse before it gets better? It’s never really worked like that in my experience, so...” She shrugged. “I guess we keep doing our best? What if we totally fail?” 

“I think they are, too. Do you know what the hell to do?”

“only four? that’s not bad considering the fact that there’s an infinite number out there.”

“i saw earth-616 and i know earth-19999 lives here. i think i saw earth-120703? no clue on the other one.”

“i get the multiverse. i’m not from here. i just didn’t realize we were due for an influx of variants.”

“little gwen or big dead? i could also say living gwen or recently dead gwen.” gwen hated talking about the gwens and how many had died so pointlessly. it was why she had become ghost spider; their memories would always live on in her head. “i get why people are confused by the multiverse. i’ve just had a head start.” 

a seasoned multiversal traveler, gwen had seen a lot of faces. some tended to stick with you over time. she had seen a million different faces, but one would always mean more than others. her pace had been brisk as she tried to get to class, but she slowed when she spotted him. “peter parker?” what was this, number five? “you’re peter parker, aren’t you?”

“they say no publicity is bad publicity but that is so totally fake.” dressed in her civilian clothes, gwen felt like she could breathe a little easier without the mask on. that didn’t mean it was easy by any means to see a version of harry. he ranked second, currently, under peter. her dad was edging up the list the longer they were apart.

"if there’s anything good about the multiverse collapsing, it’s that i get to see you more.” gwen leaned over, bumping her shoulder against miles’. “everything else? really, really bad.”

“what’s the angle here? is there an angle here?”
