day to night, dark to light

she hesitantly looked around, at a loss of words. “uh...” how would she put this gently. “there isn’t really a home for me to put them in?” she didn’t mind saying that she didn’t have a home. she always traveled, anyways. but people would always react badly. it was rather... awkward.

“no, really, i insist.” she knelt down, holding out the stuffed toy. she really didn’t have a need to keep it. sentimental value, maybe, but there were clearly other things she could hold onto instead. “if it makes him happy, it’ll make me happy. i  l o v e  kids.”

she smiled. “i think i have an extra coke somewhere...” her hand reached into a purse - star wars patterned, of course, with a tattoo design of boba fett - and, lo and behold, she pulled out a small bottle of the soft drink. “i kind of  l i v e  off of caffeine. only average about... 5 hours of sleep a night? but how late were you up?”

“I know it looks bad, but it’s fine. My wounds are my favourite parts about me, I’d have nothing to talk about without stories of my battle scars,” she chuckled, partially kidding. 

“well, i mean, it looks pretty g n a r l y.” she tried to make light of the situation as well, slightly laughing. “i have pretty much nothing else to talk about except for the different, y’know, ghosts i’ve seen, but ‘i see dead people’ isn’t exactly the best conversation starter.”

“Is it because you are boring?”

“boring? i... i-i’m not boring. i do fun things. maybe not big athletic things but fun things.”

“It’s okay, not many people can compete with me.”

“i mean, i probably could try, but, y’know, i’m just not into that kind of stuff.”

“well, i mean...” her lips pursed. her eyes studied the snowglobe in the other female’s hands, moving around rapidly as each piece fell. she was like a child, almost. but, then she thought about the question again. “it isn’t like i really have anywhere else to put or leave them.”

“you’re both welcome to take pretty much anything.” her fingers wrapped around the stuffed animal’s stomach, and her dark eyes glanced down, from the toy to the child. she originally said the bear was off limits, but... she had a few others stuffed toys in the suitcase. maybe she could live without one. “would he like this?”

“Beat that.”

“...nah, i think i’m okay.”
