You laugh softly, capping the sunscreen bottle and wiping your hands on a towel. Sasuke huffs but there is a tiny smile tugging at her lips anyway. The three of you finally pile into the car, Naruto chatting the whole way about building the biggest sandcastle ever and how she is definitely going to win any beach volleyball game that happens to appear. Sasuke just leans her head against the window, pretending to be annoyed, but her fingers keep brushing against yours in the backseat.

When you reach the beach the sun is bright and warm, the waves gentle. Sasuke claims a spot right away, setting up the big parasol and spreading out the blankets with careful precision. She settles under the shade in her dark swimsuit, sunglasses on, she is ready to people-watch for the next three hours.

Naruto does not wait a second. She kicks off her skirt, grabs your hand and tugs you toward the water while laughing. "Come on, come on! Let's be mermaids!"

You barely have time to kick off your sandals before she is pulling you into the shallow waves. The water is cool against your skin and Naruto splashes around like an excited puppy.

"Wait, wait! It's cold!" you tell her, but she's already splashing a big wave of water towards you. You scream loud and when you manage to open your eyes, she's jumping and wrapping her legs around your waist.

"What color is your mermaid tail?" she asks extremely serious, hair wet and mascara just a little run.

"Pink!"

"NO," she screams, making Sasuke look up from her book. "Mine's pink, yours is purple."

"But I wanna match with you," you pout, looking away.

You both start discussing for several minutes as she keeps herself in her arms.

After a while your skin starts to prickle from the sun and the play, so you wave at Sasuke under her parasol. She has not moved much, just sipping from a water bottle and watching the two of you with soft eyes behind her shades. You jog over, still dripping, and drop down beside her.

Before she can say anything you crawl closer and rest your wet head on her chest, sighing happily as the cool water from your hair meets her warm skin. Sasuke makes a small surprised sound but her arms come around you anyway, one hand stroking through your damp strands.

"You're going to get me all wet," she whispers, but there is no real complaint in her voice. Her fingers trace slow circles on your back, gentle and steady. "Do you need me to reapply your sunscreen?"

"Yes, please," you smile, sitting up and letting Sasuke start applying sunscreen on your semi-dry body.

She make sure your arms and chest are nicely covered, then she gently applied it in your face and your back.

Naruto comes running up a moment later, shaking her hair like a dog and spraying droplets everywhere.

"Heyy!" She flops down on Sasuke's side, her wet arms wrapping around her waist. "You never get in the water with us Sasuke."

Naruto leaves a peck right on her cheek.

"Hm, I thought I was a bully," Sasuke commets, pressing her lips in a playful smile.

"Well, you are. But you're cute so I forgive you."

You leaned down on the towel again, laughing while Naruto tried to steal another kiss from Sasuke while she was actively trying to dodge her. At some point they also lay down next to you, pampering your face with kisses, making you giggle like you're still kids.

Most of the art is official, except for the sketch on the profile page (which is by me) + the header/footer of the dark theme (and if anyone knows the artists of those, please let me know!)
