According to legend, there was a villager in Pingtan in ancient times who was wronged and imprisoned, but the food sent by his son was eaten by the jailer.

Since then, this dumpling-shaped meatballs unique to Pingtan folks, locally called "Xianshi" have been passed down as a symbol of gratitude and filial piety.
