I just saw a video on ferbnessa, like, discussing the relationship. I thought the commenters would be aware enough to say "yeah, its weird"
But no, a bunch of people actually defend this ship. They think that the issue that people that are against ferbnessa have is the age gap. THE AGE GAP WAS NEVER THE PROBLEM IF IT WAS A 25 YEAR OLD WHO MET A 20 YEAR OLD AND THEY STARTED DATING, THAT WOULD BE TOTALLY FINE.
THE ISSUE IS SHE KNEW HIM AS A KID AND SAW HIM GROWING UP, SHE WAS REGULARLY THERE BECAUSE SHE WAS FRIENDS WITH HIS BIG SISTER
IMAGINE WATCHING A KID GROW UP AND WHEN HE'S AN ADULT YOU'RE LIKE "HEY, I WANNA DATE YOU", EVEN IF THERE WASN'T GROOMING IT IS STILL CREEPY
Sometimes people also try to reason that the gap isn't that bad and put Ferb as 12, while Vanessa is 16, as we see in the show. But in the original pilot script, Candace said he's 9, and the Act Your Age episode supposedly takes place after 10 years, so he must be at 8-9 years old. (I know the new season puts them at middle school, but I think it's a retcon.) So, it's a 9-year-old crushing on a 16-year-old. Crushes are normal. But why would they show them getting together, like ever? If you met a kid that's 9 when you were 16 and interacted with him pretty often, surely you won't think of that kid in a romantic way even when he's an adult? It's so weird. I hate that it's canon.
Also, thank you OP for putting the allegory of Jeremy dating Buford after he's an adult. It's weird. Hot take, I think many people think since the older person AKA Vanessa is a girl, it's fine. Swap the genders and have the older person be a guy dating a younger girl fresh out of high school. You can't tell me it's not weird.
(mini rant, this one's a bit harsh, sorry)
I've written about this before, but the "Why I Ship Kataang and Not Zutara" video essay I found on Instagram, that was tagged as ZUTARA, not Kataang, mind you, bothered me so much. Idk, I just feel secondhand embarrassment for them. Kataang is CANON. Zutara is non-canon and NEVER DATED IN THE SHOW. The fact they felt the need to make the video and tag the non-canon ship instead of the canon one is stupid imo.
Do they know what the equivalent of that in other fandoms is?
Posting a "Why I Ship Romione and Not Dramione" video and tag it as Dramione, not Romione.
Or a "Why I Ship Percabeth and Not Jercy or Percico" video in the Jercy and Percico tags.
Or "Why I Ship Clois and Not Superbat" video in the Superbat tag, not Clois's.
Or "Why I Ship Stendy and Not Style" video in the Style tag, not Stendy's.
See how dumb it seems, especially when one ship is confirmed canon and endgame, and the other is non-canon and never happened in canon (and at best mildly hinted at)? It's so infuriating and childish.
I don't get how people survive in this fandom. When you post content of one ship, you'll inevitably get comments of the other ship that weren't asked for. This war is stupid. Leave the other side alone, like dude.
(I don't support HP anymore, but a user was pretty rude towards me here when I mentioned HP ships in passing, so I'm clarifying that. I mentioned HP because it's one of the most mainstream and largest fandoms I can think of to help get my point across. The ships I mentioned are from HP, PJO, DC, and SP.)
Some Thoughts on South Park's Queer Rep, Ninjago, and a Bit of Hazbin
(The yap got longer than expected again. Haha. Discussions and corrections, welcome, if any!)
Several days ago, I made a video on Instagram arguing that one of Ninjago's main messages is to accept differences. In the Instagram post, I considered writing my own confusion about South Park in comparison, but ultimately didn't because it would be too long. Here's the gist of what I was going to say.
See, a loud ugly part of the Ninjago online fandom is wildly homophobic. People harrassed the writing team and denied any semblance of queer rep in the show. When I compare it to the South Park fandom, I'm surprised because online, the South Park community is generally more accepting. You'll see comments like, "Ninjago went downhill after they made it gay," but for South Park, the worst criticisms right now are that the show didn't parody the Biden administration. No one says that having Mr Garrison transition, or canonizing Tweek and Craig's relationship is a problem. My main source of confusion is that for Ninjago, the show is very accepting, but the community itself is divided, whereas for South Park, the fandom is queer-friendly, but I don't think the show is, at least not 100%. (Basically, my thought process is, how the heck is the Ninjago fandom more homophobic than freaking South Park's?)
Yes, it has Big Gay Al, Mr Garrison, Tweek, Craig, and other characters as outright queer representation, and it does have episodes dedicated to the support of gay people. I think Craig's dad accepting Craig's orientation is a beautiful scene and the episode condemning conversion camps is a must-watch. But these episodes are far and few in between. In most of the episodes, the boys use the phrase, "That's so gay," and the F-slur flippantly. I am aware this is satire, a type of meta-commentary to show that this kind of language is stupid. Stan even acknowledges that he shouldn't have called a rule "gay" in one episode. But let's be honest, this is a risk, isn't it? "Repeating a derogatory slur even with the purposes of refuting it can make stupid people think it's okay," says Kyle in Cupid Ye, paraphrased. People with lower comprehension are more likely to use these phrases in real life because a cartoon has "normalized" it. I've read accounts that claim South Park unintentionally contributed to homophobia in their youth. Let's also not forget the terrible representation of trans people in the show. I haven't watched the episode on this, but I've read about it: There's an episode where it, unintentionally or not, likens transitioning to doing plastic surgery with the goal of changing one's race. South Park is a great show, but if we keep track of all the episodes, they aren't doing the best thing to paint queer people in a positive light. While one can argue that it does take a jab at everyone, the specific episode on transitioning feels targeted and careless.
(The following paragraph is an additional edit after some thought.) Also, South Park has an episode where they attempted to reframe the F-slur as something normal to say, or at least, redefine the word. I can't express how disconnected this episode feels, especially since the show had a previous episode arguing that non-black people don't understand what it feels like to be called the N-word. Why isn't the same logic applied to the F-slur? Of course, there are differences in how black and queer people struggled and were discriminated against, but surely, only queer people understand the weight of using the F-slur against them? How is this making fun of people equally? Also, I suppose, this episode is old, and in recent years, the show has been getting better in terms of queer rep, and I believe the use of homophobic language has been significantly diminished thanks to PC Principal, so that's good.
Despite all this, the South Park online fandom, especially fan artists, is overwhelmingly accepting, and I've never encountered a South Park fan artist that is homophobic. (You can still find Ninjago fan artists that are homophobic and despise queer headcanons. I was shocked when I found one.) So... maybe the conclusion is that South Park's online audience is better at grasping these nuances than Ninjago's. Another possible explanation is that because the show has a prominent queer character early on, the South Park community is already a self-selected crowd, whereas Ninjago's queer rep has only been added into the show quite recently.
Either way, I actually don't think South Park has that great queer representation, especially because of the episodes about trans people. However, in that notorious Tumblr poll, I'm pretty conflicted on whether I should vote for South Park or Hazbin Hotel for "best queer rep media." I loved Hazbin Hotel mainly for the music and little else. (In particular, I found the art style extremely inaccessible. Why is everything red? I can't see.) It feels that Hazbin Hotel is queer just for the sake of being queer, and the story personally is a bit too weak for it to be good representation. But I suppose, although I find myself more entertained and emotionally invested in South Park, I'd have to eat my hat and choose Hazbin Hotel for the poll.
Obviously, I think South Park as a show overall is better. As the only thing I enjoyed from Hazbin Hotel was the music, there is no contest. South Park has an amazing list of songs.
For being one of my favorite South Park ships, I think it’s funny I’ve only done one other video with Stary. So I had to change that and made this 🙏
Guess who’s back into South Park again…? I knew something was gonna swoop in before I could even attempt to focus on looney tunes and Mickey and friends 😭

The funniest thing to me is that I chose Zane as Ferb not only bc of Zane's slight British-like accent, but also bc I thought who'd even consider Zane and Jay a thing? Fast forward 1.5 years, now I'm Technoshipping trash. I've posted four drawings of them, have a WIP oneshot of them, and plan to make a comic and animation meme of them at some point. This is character development 👍

likely never going to finish this but i’ve been thinking of them
(disorganized rant below)
I just started reliving my childhood and early teenage years by watching Danny Phantom again. (I'm back in the flipping building.) And after all these years, I'm still so salty that Danny ended up with Sam instead of with Valerie. I love Sam, and I think she could be more interesting and complex if the show went there. But rewatching some of the early episodes made me remember how ignorant and selfish she can be at times, even as a friend. In contrast, Valerie was selfless enough to walk away from a relationship to protect Danny. Plus their dynamic is so much more interesting? And once they have everything sorted out, they could get back together and be some power couple dynamic duo. I don't know, I remember that Season 3 and Phantom Planet sidelined Valerie a lot in favor of Danny and Sam's budding relationship, which was admittedly cute, but kind of felt forced to me.
(Also, I went to DP AO3 for the first time. What the heck is Danny Fenton/Jason Todd. How is that more popular than Danny/Valerie lmao.)
