similarities between ʟᴇᴇ ᴇᴠᴇʀᴇᴛᴛ
and "ᴄᴏᴍᴇ" by Adrianne Lenker
"You have to shoot me, honey "
⸙͎ Parent-Child Relationship
• Come : The lyrics are written from the perspective of a mother asking her daughter to help her in her final moments and to carry her memory forward.
• Twdg : Throughout the game, Lee protects, teaches, and guides Clementine. In the final moments, Clementine must act as the protector, stepping into a position of strength.
Both of those involve a shift in roles, where the daughter must shoulder the responsibility of the "parent" death
• Come : The mother is at peace with her passing, reassuring her daughter not to be afraid. She acknowledges her mortality inviting her daughter to accept that this is just how things must be and that she needs to stay strong.
• Twdg : As Lee was bitten and facing inevitable death he accepts his fate feeling at peace that he managed to make sure that Clementine was okay before it happend. In his final moments, he encourages Clementine to be strong and to move forward without fear, even if she has to face loss.
Both express acceptance of death and the desire to comfort the surviving loved one. They frame death not as an end but as a transition that the person they cared for must face with courage.
⸙͎ Having to kill own parent
• Come : The mother asks her daughter to actively assist in her passing. It requires the daughter to let go and accept her mother’s death
• Twdg : Clementine is forced to shoot Lee to end his suffering. She must let go of her own protector and accept his dead
Both the daughter and Clementine are placed in a position where they must actively participate in the death of a loved one.
• Come : The mother begs her daughter to "Take my life into your life," to keep her memory alive by embodying her values The meaning of that is that the mother's essence will live on through her daughter after her death.
• Twdg : Lee’s even in his final moments still reminds Clementine to survive and retain her humanity in a cruel world she has to live in. His guidance becomes like her moral compass later on, ensuring his influence affects her actions and choices.
Both focus on the transfer of legacy. The elder figure's death is not the end of their presence, their memory and teachings live on in the daughter - shaping her future.
"Come help me die, my daughter"
• It literally mirrors Lee asking Clementine to make the difficult decision to shoot him (and actually this is the part thay inspired me to analyze this song a bit more) symbolizing a shift in responsibility.
"Take my life into your life"
• Lee’s final words to Clementine are about survival, staying strong, and remembering what he taught her.
"Don't be afraid, my girl"
• Lee constantly reassures Clementine throughout the game. One of his final words are telling her not to be afraid and that she is capable of facing the challenges ahead
"Take my hand, take a hold"
• Lee reaches out metaphorically and literally to guide her. You can also say that by that he shows that even at such a moment he will be with her until the very end.
"Let me lie on your arms, I'm weightless in the sea"
• captures the peace and surrender to death that is a great parallel to Lee’s acceptance of his fate. He finds solace in letting go, feeling that he managed to protect Clementine.
