idk if its like the neurodivergence tm or whatever that makes me observe my experiences rather than actually experience them but i do find that it makes for an interesting way i go about writing
like for most folks who experience life narratively, something makes you hurt, so you write to show people how you were hurt. Hopefully you're seen, and you find meaning in being seen. I read a lot of these, the I hurt, feel my pain style of work.
but like. hm. how do i put this?
something hurts me and my first metaphorical instinct is to look down, yank out the thorn, note exactly where I got stabbed anatomically and proceed to find satisfaction when I can find a similar underbelly to stab the thorn into someone else. it's like the satisfaction of writing a good angst fic that you specifically designed to hurt a particular friend in the good way.
on the one hand, it's still definitely a bid for connection, both of these methodologies are.
on the other had I'm not sure I like what it says about my complete distrust that my pain will not be believed unless I hone it perfectly beforehand, and target it skillfully

2018… it was a different time.
When the catapillars stopped eating healthy leaves and started to only eat poisoned meats something dark and devilish crawled out of the coccoon and burrowed into the deep clay of earth without any wings
bohemia lies today!

Please hold for the tone
Please wait for the signal
Please hold me in my selfish impatience
For a complete love
As if they are delivered as easily as takeout
Rather than built and made and worn and battered and standing,
always still standing.
As if love can be waited, held warm, guilt free and microwave ready,
and discarded.
As if logic can dam a distance that keeps the hurt held and paused,
like there's such a thing as painless decoupling.
The reality lies in the weight in my arms now, the wait in between breaths and hiccoughing sobs
It is no longer guilt in letting you go without your pain
But now guilt in not wanting to let go because of mine
There is nothing convenient about the tangling, whirling weight, our wait in becoming better, longer, anchored together
A message too long to fit
at the recorded
*beep*
my understanding and interpretation of Mary Oliver’s “Wild Geese” cannot be untangled from the fact that it was originally published to follow her poem about childhood sexual abuse, “Rage”
i just don’t think it was unintentional that these were presented flush against each other

it's a sort of grace, this death,
to build a whole world in the slender
curve of one's rib, and new life
from the tender marrow of grief. When
those you nourish hear your
people singing in the sunlit blue-green
vastness overhead, do they
remember then? Are they grateful? Or do
they close their eyes and go on
blindly eating; content and oblivious to
the unending bounty of your love?

Being a fish in highly oxygenated water must feel so fucking good
I see the waves swirling around the intertidal zone, leaving behind trails of dissolved bubbles and I'm like fuck yeah some blenny in there is just going hnnnggg
What if you were a golden trout in a mountain stream. What if you faced the flow of the water and the swirling bubbles, like crystalline drops, ran against your gills. What if you took the deepest, cleanest, most pure breathes by running in place. Imagine.
You wanna be a fish so bad don't you
Is there space for a 43rd 🥺
i miss my ex bestfriend & everyone else that i have ever loved but don't want any of them back either
what the fuck man

“The universe is an event, not a place. Don’t seek to own. Witness.”
― Jarod K. Anderson, The Haunted Forest Trilogy
An ant crosses your carpet. A spider weaves a pattern older than mammals beneath your stairs. Just nod, breathe, and think, ‘Good. It’s all still here. The forest, the mountains, the desert. At home in my home.’ The sterile white box is the stranger. Not the ant. Not the spider.
Jarod K. Anderson, Field Guide to the Haunted Forest
oh hey @cryptonature you got an admirer!
Vultures are holy creatures.
Tending the dead.
Bowing low.
Bared head.
Whispers to cold flesh,
“Your old name is not your king.
I rename you ‘Everything.’”
[The poem "Clergy" originally published in the collection Love Notes from the Hollow Tree by Jarod K. Anderson]
I wonder how many cycles of forgetting and then remembering I like breakfast cereals I’ll live to see.
The first bird-ancestor to achieve flight
was just super serious about applauding
and it got out of hand.

Monster
There is a monster that lives in my head
She throbs and stabs through vessels and capillaries
Teethed and armed in angered nerves
She pulls my life away in poisoned pulses
She pulls my loves away in wasted hours
She pulls my fun away in creeping threat
Though she is cowed by capsule sedation,
she is never vanquished.
The doctor will see me in five days
I'm afraid they'll tell me the monster was never real
I'm afraid they'll tell me the monster is too real
Above all, I'm afraid that this is a monster
that I must simply make a home for
‘While bats can only sense the outer shapes and textures of their targets, dolphins can peer inside theirs. If a dolphin echolocates on you, it will perceive your lungs and your skeleton. It can likely sense shrapnel in war veterans and fetuses in pregnant women. It can pick out the air-filled swim bladders that allow fish, their main prey, to control their buoyancy.
It can almost certainly tell different species apart based on the shape of those air bladders. And it can tell if a fish has something weird inside it, like a metal hook. In Hawaii, false killer whales often pluck tuna off fishing lines, and “they’ll know where the hook is inside that fish,” Aude Pacini, who studies these animals, tells me. “They can ‘see’ things that you and I would never consider unless we had an X-ray machine or an MRI scanner.”
This penetrating perception is so unusual that scientists have barely begun to consider its implications. The beaked whales, for example, are odontocetes that look dolphin-esque on the outside—but on the inside, their skulls bear a strange assortment of crests, ridges, and bumps, many of which are only found in males.
Pavel Gol’din has suggested that these structures might be the equivalent of deer antlers—showy ornaments that are used to attract mates. Such ornaments would normally protrude from the body in a visible and conspicuous way, but that’s unnecessary for animals that are living medical scanners.’
