Anatomy books will help you with poses and proportion. Once you get the proportion you want or feel more comfortable with you will start by adding your own style to it, you will find it in the technique you are most happy with as you move forward.
As a teacher, the thing I tell to my students is that it is ok to feel down if you don't like the end result after hours of work, step away from it, come back after some hours or days and think how can you make this even more sexy. (I teach architectural design, mostly las year students who are working to obtain their degree, so my advice always makes them laugh)
The drawing process, like any other design process, is a decision making process. Once you start to realize "what you like", "what you can do", the way your brain connects to your hands to create something and how you do it, the "what I want to do" becomes easier, not the work load it takes to do it, this is why most artist end up drained after they work.
