A Big Adventure: Page VIII
Imp used distraction! It's super... Effective?
Wait, what? Oh come on Lucifer, you feel for the oldest trick in the book!
[Previous]|[Cover]
Eh, it can happen to everyone sometimes. 😅
A/N: A small thing for @thatdawgthatdraws. It’s a small reference from a very old movie, Homeward Bound 2: Lost in San Francisco and inspired by the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games and small anime specials where the human player is mystery turned into a Pokémon and all of the Pokémon can talk.
While the Pokémon spoke with subtitles to translate what they’re saying in the Indigo League episode, “The Island of Giant Pokémon”, I was curious about what would happen if we could hear the Pokémon can actually talk to each like humans in their language when their trainers or other humans are not around kinda like in Rugrats where the baby characters can talk to each other.
David is Dawg’s OC while Rachel is a shared OC.
##############################################
After getting separated from their trainers, Alicia’s Lucario, Anubis, Rachel’s Cinderace and David’s Froslass were passing a female Furfrou with a Kabuki Trim.
Froslass: (bluntly) I hope you didn’t pay for that haircut. 😒
Furfrou: (in a French accent) Excusez-moi? 🤨 (offended) De nerve… 😠💢
Anubis: (politely) Good morning, miss. 😌
Furfrou: (happily) Bonjour, monsieur! 😊
Cinderace: (jokingly yet being Innocently Insensitive) Hey, nice buzz, cuz. You get in a battle with a Mow Rotom? 👋🏻😄
Furfrou: (not amused) Heh, peasant. 😤
Pokémon Introduction Post Part III
The Master of Aura, the Speed of Light. Anubis the Lucario
Name: Anubis
Gender: male
Pokémon Species: Riolu->Lucario->Mega Lucario
Megastone: Lucarionite, Lucarionite Z (from a letter Alicia received from a stranger)
Z-Crystals: Fightinium Z, Steelium Z
Dynamax: Anubis uses the Dynamax Feature
Terra Type: Fighting -> Steel
PokéBall:
Anubis is Alicia's third Pokémon and the first one she caught in the Forest Wild Zone at the Coconut Academy. Somewhat unexpectedly, the little Riolu let itself be caught willingly and hasn't left Alicia's side since.
It is said that Trainers share a strong bond with Riolu and Lucario—so strong that they can communicate through Aura without speaking. Anubis is no different; he simply follows Alicia's instructions (even without her having to say anything). In addition to Pokémon battles, his passion is training and helping other Pokémon (And most certainly their trainers too).
Moveset: Aura Sphere | Flash Cannon | Swords Dance | Ice Punch
Former moves: Vacuum Wave, Quick Attack, Bone Rush
As Anubis travels through the various regions with Alicia and her friends to face the individual Gym Leaders, a strong bond of trust develops between Alicia and Anubis. The two learn to communicate with each other through their auras (which also helped them find Alicia quickly when she was briefly separated from the group).
Precisely because they share such a strong bond of friendship and trust, very few can keep up with Anubis' speed in battle. Even experienced Gym Leaders are taken aback when Anubis vanishes right before their eyes and reappears within seconds to attack with a powerful Aura Sphere.
The hard to catch one: It's unknown how Anubis appeared in the Academy's own Wildzones. Not even the Director knew about the quickly and extremely hard to catch Riolu.
Before Alicia even got accepted in the Coconut Academy students tried every single trick in the book to catch Anubis. Some senior students even mention this during one lunchbreak after Alicia spoke about it too David.
Rival: Thomas's Clodsire
Although you'd think that as a Pokémon Trainer he'd know everything about the strengths and weaknesses of each Pokémon type, Thomas keeps forgetting that Poison-type attacks are ineffective against a Steel-type Pokémon like Anubis.
But one Ice Punch is enough to freeze and defeat the Ground- and Poison-type Pokémon. (Even though Thomas, as is so often the case, claims to have won the battle.)
Official Rival: David's Gallade
You'd think that the two would share the Fighting-type, but there's more to it than meets the eye. Anubis trained David's Rault back then until it evolved into Gallade and mastered its Mega Evolution.
Mega Evolution:
After receiving their first Gym badge, Alicia and Anubis, along with some of their classmates, took the special elective course on Mega Evolution in the Alola Region. As expected, Anubis mastered Mega Evolution and did not lose control, unlike Korrina’s Lucario during its first use of Mega Evolution.
After successfully passing the test in which Alicia had to face off against the island Kahuna Olivia's Lycanroc, Alicia received her Mega Stone for Anubis and Lucifer.
From the mysterious letter: Right after Alicia returned from her second Gym battle a letter with no adress and only her name on it appeared on her bed. Curious she opened it to reveal a very strange looking Megastone for her Lucario and a small note attached to it.
The Master: Before Katie could face her first Gym battle against Gym Leader Korrina , Anubis sensed the presence of a Riolu nearby. Katie caught that Riolu and named it Spirit. Spirit had always sensed the powerful aura that Anubis carried within him. The little Riolu saw Anubis as his role model and didn’t hesitate for a moment to battle him.
Anubis won the first few battles, but taught Spirit everything he knew. Once Anubis was able to Mega Evolve, Spirit wanted to train and battle with Anubis even more. So Anubis became his master and taught him many things, including a new move called Thunder Punch.
Quick from the start: Anubis speed can't be out matched by any normal Lucario. The reason for this is the training he did when he was a wild Riolu, dodging every single PokéBall that got thrown into his way.
Spirit tries to outrun Anubis once but he couldn't keep up with his speed nor with the parkour training Anubis always does outside of battling.
Bark don't bite: Anubis is usually quite docile around Spirit. However, there was an incident in which Anubis growled at Spirit and almost attacked him with his Ice Punch attack.
During a training session between Aki and Anubis, the pushy Riolu squeezed in between them and unintentionally fired an uncontrollable Aura Sphere at Aki.
Alicia's Dewott sustained a minor injury, but Anubis was seething with rage. Spirit quickly realized his mistake and sincerely apologized to Aki, Alicia, and Anubis. Anubis did not accept the apology until Spirit ran away in grief and injured himself. Anubis was plagued by guilt when Katie's Riolu didn't come back, so he set out with Alicia and Katie to search for Spirit, and they found him thanks to Anubis's aura.
Spirit had always regarded him as his master, and Anubis regarded him as his student.
Name origin: The origin of the name Anubis comes from Egyptian mythology. The god of mummification—or of death—is called Anubis and bears a strong resemblance to Lucario. Both are based on jackals.
Friends: Aki the Samurott, Trix the Zoroark, Lucifer the shiny Houndoom, Arthur the shiny Corviknight, Eris the Togekiss, Katie's Pokémon, Rachel's Pokémon, Arturo's Pokémon and Meadow's Pokémon.
Special Friendship: Spirit the Riolu/Lucario (his student) and Rachel's Cinderace (Sportsfriend)
Favorite foods: sweet foods like berries, Oran Berry, Sandwiches (made by Alicia or her friends), chocolate, different types of pastries and vanilla ice cream.
Likes: Alicia, her friends, training, swimming, running, parkour and bonding with Alicia through Aura.
Dislikes: Thomas, his Pokémon Team and his friends bullying other students and their Pokémon, stealing in general, Alicia getting hurt or sad
Unique Traits: Outside of training and battles, Anubis is very affectionate toward Alicia. In fact, he sometimes refuses to return to his Poké Ball.
Funfact: Anubis isn't very happy when someone gets too close to his trainer, insults her, or flirts with her. If you do, Anubis won't hesitate for a moment—he'll either blast you with aura spheres or give you a good beating.
Thomas and his friends learned that the hard way

Mentor and child
Pokémon: Upon a New a Horizon Introduction 3
A purely noble and strong will that cannot broken, the Master of Aura. The courageous and devoted Spirit the Lucario.
Name: Spirit
Gender: Male
Nature: Serious
Trainer: Katie Gemwing
Type: Fighting and Steel
Pokémon Species: Riolu -> Lucario -> Mega Lucario Z -> Mega Lucario (Mega Evolutions)
Megastone: Lucarionite Z and Lucarionite (just like Alicia, she gets it in a letter for a stranger)
Z-Crystals: Fightinium Z, Steelium Z and Electrcium Z
Dynamax: Can Dynamax
Terra Type: Fighting and Electric
PokéBall: Luxury Ball
Ability: Inner Focus
Hidden Ability: Justified
Move Set:Aura Sphere, Bone Rush, Metal Claw, Thunder Punch and Quick Attack
Former Moves: Endure, and Vacuum Wave
Origin: Spirit, much like Anubis, Alicia’a Lucario before him, is Katie’s third Pokémon and her secondary catch. On the group’s way for Katie’s first Gym Challenge against Korrina, Anubis had sensed the presence of a Riolu nearby by sensing his aura. As a nameless wiped Riolu, Spirit was found injured and exhausted, prompting the students to take him to a close by Pokémon Center in the woods.
While recovering, Spirit had been wary, even fearful of the humans until he sensed Katie’s aura as she refused to leave the Riolu’s bedside.
The wild Riolu had been curious, confused and moved by Katie’s determination to make sure he fully recovers from his wounds, her aura revealing her genuine compassion and empathy as she even went as far as to fetch him some water, never leaving his bedside, despite Nurse Joy’s insistence of her going to bed herself.
After the Riolu’s recovery the following morning, he had fled the Pokémon Center to train in hopes to be strong enough to fend for himself. When Katie and her friends tracked him down to ensure his safety, they were surprised to see he knows Aura Sphere despite Riolus can only learn it once they evolve. Although his aim was clumsy, it was still a surprisingly impressive feat for a baby Pokémon to know such a powerful attack at such an early stage.
Just as he was about to head back into the wilderness when he was captured in a cage by the former Team Galactic scientist, Charon, who had fled from the Sinnoh Region after Team Galactic’s fall, being on the run from the authorities ever since.
It turns out that the evil scientist had been hunting down the unique Riolu for days upon witnessing him using Aura Sphere while Charon had holed himself up in a cave in the woods. He had attempted to capture Spirit while the Riolu was caught unaware, leading to his injuries and his brief caution with the students.
The former scientist had planned to use the special Riolu for his own benefits by reforming his own version of Team Galactic as their leader. Enraged, Katie chased after the villain, determined to save the Riolu, Alicia and Anubis following suit as Charon attempted to escape with his “catch”.
Unknown to the former Team Galactic goon, Spirit used his aura for Anubis, Alicia and Katie to sense as they gave chase, managing to keep up with Charing much to his confusion and frustration.
Determined to shake off the girls and Lucario fled into a cave, hoping to its labyrinth-like interior to lose them for good. He chose a random tunnel and deliberately blocked not his escape route but also the other tunnels in hopes his pursers would dig the wrong one and run down the empty path to give him a clean getaway. Deapite this, Anubis and the girls sensed Spirit’s aura. Anubis easily cleared the blocked path with Aura Sphere and the girls continued the chase.
They managed to catch with Charon in the nick of time just as he reached the other side of the cave and rescued the Riolu with the combined efforts of Nalu and Anubis. Spirit then joined in by finishing Charon’s Pokémon off with a miraculously well-aimed Aura Sphere, knocking the evil scientist down for good until the authorities arrived to apprehend him.
After Charon is arrested to face justice for his previous crimes, Spirit formed a bond with Katie willingly allowed her to take him in as her Pokémon.
Spirit had been at Katie’s side ever since, seeing her as a surrogate mother and accepting Nalu and the rest of Katie’s Pokémon team as his new pack… and family.
Special Features: Aside from his ability of learning Aura Sphere a lot sooner before evolving, what makes Spirit stand out is that his eyes are purple instead of the usual red that his species are known for.
Personality: As his name implies, Spirit is a spirited Pokémon, and like many Fighting-Types, he likes to train to get stronger to fight tougher opponents. But he is also a laidback and friendly fellow who enjoys to relax and have fun every now and then. He is also fiercely loyal and devoted to his friends and loved ones.
With a Riolu being a baby Pokémon, Spirit does have a sensitive side to himself. He can easily be upset whenever someone, like an older Pokémon gets angry with him and will tearfully run off for a moment to be alone.
He is also not above resorting to the puppy dog eyes tactic to get what he wants, which Katie often comments the “cute eyes” gets her every time. Even as a Lucario, he still retains the cuteness effect.
He is very determined to improve on his speed and fight skills to keep up with his mentor, Anubis and one day surpass him. And once he puts all his heart, soul and mind into his training, he sticks to it. However, he’s not without limitations and he knows when not to push himself too far and take a load off to rest and enjoy himself.
Spirit is also very fiercely protective of his friends and fellow Pokémon, seeing them as his family and will stand up against any opponent, no matter the size, strength and type advantage or disadvantage.
True to his species, he has a strong bond with his trainer to the point they can communicate through their Aura without even speaking. Their bond is strong enough to sense each other’s Aura when separated. And while it took them longer to learn it, their bond is strong enough for Spirit to follow Katie’s command without her saying anything.
The Student: Ever since he had sensed Anubis’s powerful Aura, Spirit sees the Lucario like a big brother and a role model, never hesitating for a moment to battle him.
Anubis won matter battles, but taught Spirit everything he knew. Once Anubis was able to Mega Evolve, Spirit wanted to train and battle with Anubis even more. So Anubis became his master and taught him many things, including a new move, Thunder Punch, which became Spirit’s secondary signature move.
While on the school trip in the Alola Region, despite knowing Aura Sphere a lot earlier, Spirit, much like Ash’s Turtwig, often has some difficulty with his aim (which often leads to a running gag where either Anthony or Martin end up getting hit by accident… even though Rachel believes they deserve it for all of their bullying) and had gotten lucky the first time round after defeating Charon, prompting Anubis to teach him to improve on his aim and coordination until Spirit is confident to have full control of using Aura Sphere.
The Fallout: While he is usually a cheerful pup and a very respectful student always eager to make his mentor proud, Spirit is often clumsy and accident prone when trying to have better control of his aim. One mishap nearly cost him to lose faith in Anubis when the usually patient and docile Lucario nearly Ice Punched him in anger.
During a training session between Anubis and Aki, Spirit had hastily squeezed in between them and unintentionally fired an uncontrollable Aura Sphere at Aki. The Dewott sustained some minor injuries, but Spirit still felt bad for accidentally hurting him and immediately apologised. Unfortunately, despite the Riolu’s sincerity, Anubis was too upset to accept the apology and lost his temper to which led to the incident. Hurt and upset by his mentor’s anger, Spirit ran away in grief and injured himself.
Rebuilding the Broken Pedestal: As Spirit ran off, Nalu, who rarely ever gets angry, calls Anubis out for being harsh towards him, scoldingly reminding him that the Riolu is still young and inexperienced and Aki getting slightly hurt was an accident. The Brionne’s scolding immediately got through to Anubis, who felt ashamed of himself for hurting Spirit’s feelings and endangering their relationship. His guilt deepens further when a devastated Katie started to worry about Spirit when the Riolu didn’t return. Determined to make amends and to reconcile with his student, Anubis set out to look for him with Katie and Alicia. They immediately find Spirit hurt but alive thanks to Anubis’s aura.
After his recovery at a Pokémon Center, Spirit’s faith and admiration for his teacher was restored, their master and student relationship going stronger as ever.
The Need for Speed: During his tenure as a Riolu, Spirit to outrun Anubis once but he couldn’t keep up with his speed nor with parkour training Anubis always does outside of battling. Determined to keep up with master, Spirit takes parkour training himself, improving his Quick Attack until he’s fast enough to out manoeuvre his attempts as he easily eluded a Tentacruel’s attempts to use Constrict by using Quick Attack to dodge its attack and defeated the Water and Poison Type with a highly effective Thunder Punch.
Spirit inherited Anubis’s parkour training routine to improve on his speed and agility, actually managing to keep an equal pace with him after evolving.
A Dark and Tragic Past: After the third Gym Challenge Katie and her friends will soon discover that Charon was not the only evil human that wanted to capture him for evil benefits and find the root of his brief distrust in humans upon finding the injured Riolu.
It is soon discovered that like Trix, Spirit was from a Pokémon Nature Reserve area, living a happy life in the wild with his parents. His father was once the alpha in a pack of Lucario, but he was shunned by them due to the colour of his eyes and his ability to learn Aura Sphere earlier, isolating him from the other Riolus. The former alpha Lucario was forced to lose his position after losing a battle for leadership by a much younger male Lucario and both he and his family were forced to leave the pack. Regardless, Spirit’s parents remained loving and caring towards their pup continued their lives happily on their own, being each other’s pack.
Spirit’s life with his parents in the nature reserve was all good until they were hunted by former Team Rocket members, Attila, Hun and Professors Sebastian. They had intended to capture Spirit due to his rarity as an Aura Sphere Riolu, but his father sacrificed himself to save his offspring and mate, giving them time to escape, losing his own life in the process. His mother unfortunately gets mortally wounded when the villains went in pursuit, suffering several and passed away when she succumbed to her injuries, forcing her pup to venture the wilderness alone.
Settling an Old Score: Spirit harboured a deep hatred for the scientist and the two Grunts who took his family’s life, determined to bring them to justice when they started to attack the nature reserve he was from and tried to capture the old Lucario pack he was born in.
Despite being shunned and exiled by his former pack, Spirit knew they didn’t deserve to be poached or even suffer the same fate as his parents and still considered them his pack. He also didn’t want his parents’ sacrifice to be in vain and is determined to avenge, even at the cost of his own well-being.
A Family Stays Together, Triumphs Together: When Katie got caught in the crossfire while attempting to free the Lucario pack’s current leader when trapped in a net and was about to be crushed by Hun’s Steelix as it was about to use Iron Tail, Spirit took the bullet and tried to fend off the attack with all of his strength. Just when it seems he was going to be crushed to the ground, his seer determination to protect his trainer who he sees as his surrogate mother and powered by his love and bond with her, eventually evolved into Lucario and single-handedly defeated Attila’s and Hun’s Pokémon.
With the combined strength and effort with Anubis, Spirit was able to save his old home, former pack and bring both Professor Sebastian and his cohorts to justice as they were arrested and await to stand trial for their crimes.
Moved by Spirit’s undying compassion and ashamed of their mistreatment of him and his late parents, his former pack reconcile with him, earning the full respect of his father’s rival and the admiration of his former Riolu peers. Content with the reconciliation, Spirit and his former pack part ways on better terms as he leaves his former live in the nature reserve behind him to return home with his family.
Mega Evolve to the Next Level: After finally evolving not Lucario, he is given the Lucarionite Z Katie had held onto during the elective course of Mega Evolution in the Alola Region. Much like Anubis, Spirit has full control of his Mega Evolution the first time. Spirit Mega Evolve into Mega Lucario Z to slightly differ him from the standard Mega Lucario.
After Katie successfully passed her test in which she had Nalu face off against the island Kahuna Hapu’s Mudsale, she received the Megastone for Spirit, much to the Riolu’s excitement.
A Mysterious Letter: After she and Alicia returned to the academy after their second Gym Challenge, they each discover a letter with no address and only their names left on their beds. Curious, Katie opens her letter to find a Lucarionite Megastone with a note attached to it while Alicia finds a Lucarionite Z Megastone with a similar note. Whoever had sent them each a letter containing a different Lucarionite other than the ones they received from their Trial in Alola and why remains a mystery…
Friends: Nalu the Primarina, Glimmervthe Galarian Rapidash, Wynter the Alolan Ninetales, Sora the Noivern, Eclipse the shiny Umbreon, Alicia’a Pokémon, Rachel’s Pokémon, Meadow’s Pokémon and Arturo’s Pokémon.
Special Friendship: Anubis the Lucario (his mentor; big brother-figure), Nalu (big sister-figure) and Eclipse
Ever since he became Katie’s Pokémon, Spirit sees her as a mother as well as a part of his new pack along with the rest of her Pokémon. While he has an equal bond with Nalu, Glimmer, Sora and Wynter, Spirit has a slightly closer connection with Eclipse and relates with her due to the similarities of their unique colouring with his eyes and Eclipse being a shiny Pokémon.
One Sided Rival: Martin’s Alolan Golem
Despite being partly an Electric-Type, Martin’s Alolan Golem is still a Rock-Type, which makes him severely weak against Spirit, who is a combination of a Fighting and Steel-Type. And both Rock and Electric types are weak against Ground-Type moves when Spirit resorts to a Bone Rush as a favoured move to easily curb the unworthy opponent.
Official Rival: Sophia’s Hisuian Lilligant
A Hisuian Form Pokémon from long past is quite a very rare and worthy opponent for Spirit to form a healthy rivalry with the Grass and Fighting Type. Despite her elegant appearance, Sophia’s Lilligant is a very capable rival who can put up a very friendly competition.
Likes: Katie and the rest of her Pokémon, running, swimming, napping, sparing with Anubis, racing with Eclipse, bonding with Katie through Aura and his scarf.
Dislikes: Thomas, his Pokémon and roommates bullying his friends and their Pokémon as well as other students and their Pokémon, bullies, poachers, stealing in general, jerks or creeps flirting with Katie, his scarf getting stolen or potentially ripped and Katie getting hurt or sad.
Favourite Food: Pecha berries, banana and blueberry jam sandwiches, chocolate, iced doughnuts, white chocolate milk, Pecha and Oran smoothies, and ice cream (either vanilla, chocolate or even mint chocolate chip).
Unique Traits: Outside of training and battling, Spirit is very affectionate and close to Katie, seeing her as a mother, reading him so much of his biological mum. As a Riolu, he has some mild separation anxiety and can be overly clingy, refusing to leave Katie’s side. Much like Anubis, he would spend more time outside of his PokéBall and would sleep beside Katie in bed. While he overcame this after evolving, he still remains close and affectionate to Katie.
Spirit also developed a fondness for the scarf Katie picked out for him while shopping. He always keeps it close to him at all times and does not take it kindly of someone steals it or rips at it. He even has the Lucarionite Z Megastone dangling from it like a pendant. He will tolerate parting with it when Katie needs to clean it.
He is over protective of his teammates, his trainer and their friends and their Pokémon and will not hesitate to step in to their defence should they be bullied or threatened. He also has zero tolerance towards any jerks who will come onto Katie and flirt with her. When he senses her discomfort, Spirit is not above using Aura Sphere or a Thunder Punch on any goons who won’t leave her be. Of course, he does draw the line of simply dragging away those like Brock who only do some innocent flirting.
Fun Fact: The unique colour of Spirit’s eyes was inspired by surfer Victor’s Pikachu, Puka from the Indigo League episode, “The Pi-Kahuna”, who has ocean blue eyes. And Spirit knowing Aura Sphere as a Riolu was also inspired by the Aura Sphere Riolu from the Diamond & Pearl two parter episode, “Pokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu”.
Other than being named after his spirited personality, Spirit’s name is inspired by the titler character, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.
