Everyone, we must keep fighting for anti-generative AI
A bunch of people my dad carpools to work with got laid off because AI can supposedly do their jobs, and my mom said AI can do the same for animation
Well, you know what? We must keep fighting, then! Not just against generative AI for art, but AI to replace jobs in general! Keep it in the realm of NPCs and video games! AI is a tool, not a worker!
KEEP. FIGHTING. NO MATTER WHAT.
Spread the word!

Upon A New Horizon Part VI
LAST| NEXT
Katie once again found herself within the misty woods of the Slumbering Weald, barely able to see even the silhouettes of the trees ahead of her.
She wadded through the tall grass down the pathway as there was no one but herself alone.
There were no signs of any wild Pokémon. Note even the cry of a Rookidee.
Just then, she stopped to a halt in midstep as she noticed a large, quadruple form lumbering towards her through the thick fog. The creature crept closer and closer, its slender, scarred lupin features becoming much more visible.
The blue Pokémon (at least, she believed it was) gazed down at her with a neutral look on its wolfish face, its yellow eyes unreadable.
Katie took a nervous step back, only to stop when she spotted a similar wolf-like scarred Pokémon with red fur.
The fog grew thicker around her and the mysterious Pokémon as they blocked her only known exits.
Katie reached into her pocket to grab her PokéBalls to call out Nalu and Glimmer in case the strange creatures were going to attack. But… she couldn’t find them. As though she had forgotten to bring them.
Just as Katie was about to panic, neither of the strange Pokémon were showing any aggression towards her nor were they going to attack her.
They just stood there.
Staring.
And waiting.
“Wh-who are you?” Katie asked nervously, trying to keep her voice steady. “What do you want? Are you Pokémon? Why are you here?”
The Pokémon in front of her threw back its head and let out a thunderous howl which practically shook the entire forest. The other Pokémon followed suit.
Katie clapped her hands over her ears from the loud howling. She grimaced when she noticed the fog was growing thicker until she couldn’t even see her own hands.
She was starting to fear for the worst when-!
###########################################################
SPLASH!
A face full of a Water Gun attack jolted her awake.
“GAH! Nalu! Again?!” Katie sputtered as she sat up in bed, groaning. “We do have an alarm clock, you know.”
“Pop! Pop!” Nalu yapped nervously.
“Yeepers Creepers!” Alicia gasped, woken up by Aki who did a Water Pulse attack on her. “Aki, you know I washed my hair yesterday.”
“Dewott!” Aki said worryingly.
Katie sighed as she brushed back her soaked bangs.
“It was because I was having that dream, wasn’t it?” She asked as she noticed Nalu and Glimmer’s worried expressions.
“You had this weird dream again?” Alicia asked while she dried her hair in the bathroom while her Pokémon took care of her clothes and stuff.
“Yeah…” Katie sighed. “It’s about those weird Pokémon again. At least… I think they were Pokémon.”
“I had a similar dream.” Alicia spoke.
Katie dried her hair in the bathroom and got dressed while her Pokémon handled her wet pyjamas.
“I’m starting to think these dreams are not random.” She said slowly while picking up her hat. “It can’t be a coincidence if they’re the same thing about these Pokémon.”
Alicia puts her own hat on as she's ready to go. She put on her backpack with Trix resting on top of it.
“I think you're right. The dreams feel like a vision rather than a normal dream you have.” Alicia stated before Aki grabbed her small bag. “It's like they want us to visit a certain place.”
“I have a feeling you’re right.” Katie agreed, adjusting the strap of her own backpack before picking Nalu up.
Alicia wanted to respond but the constant knocking on the door interrupted their conversation.
“Rachel….” Alicia sighed.
“Looks like she’s itching to get to her first Gym Challenge ASAP.” Katie confirmed.
“Guys, wake up before the pancakes are gone!” Rachel yelled on the other side of the door before a shy voice asked her to stay quiet because the other students were still sleeping in their rooms.
“We're wide awake Rachel.” Alicia said while she rubbed sleep out of her eyes before the door to her and Katie's room finally opened.
“To spare the other students sleep deprivation, you could have texted…” Katie stated before she yawned.
“Yeesh, speaking of sleep deprivation, you guys look like you haven't slept in weeks.” Rachel commented. “Did you guys have a rough night?”
Alicia shook her head in response as she said, “Nah, I’m good.”
“Just had a weird dream, that’s all.” Katie smiled shakily.
“Was it because of the Gym Leader Challenge?” Meadow sheepishly asked.
“Y-yeah…” Katie answered. “I mean, it’s rather unnerving and exciting at the same time.”
Alicia nodded in agreement before she closed the door behind her as she, Katie and their Pokémon entered the hallway.
“Seems like we're not the only ones wide awake.” Alicia pointed out.
Two older students discussed the Gym Leader they had to face while their partner Pokémon were a Prinplup and a Combusken.
“Man, this Gym Challenge is gonna be tough.” The student with the Prinplup sighed. “I know we had trained long and hard for this, but it won’t be easy given how strong most of the Gym Leaders are.”
“At least you don't have to face Byron next.” The other student responded.
“Seriously, he’d be small potatoes in comparison to Raihan.” The first student shuddered. “Whoever’s facing him, I’d wish them the best of luck. With its Gigantamax form, his Duraludon would squash any Trainer’s Pokémon flat.”
“Prinplup.” The penguin-like Pokémon sighed.
Alicia wasn't sure if she should be happy or not about it. Raihan is known for his tactics in battle.
After all he’s the second strongest Trainer in the Galar Region.
“He’s not wrong there.” Katie mused. “Raihan is said to be Leon’s biggest rival and tried to beat him for the title as Galar’s Champion for quite a while. He’s even among the few Trainers to beat most of Leon’s Pokémon except for his Charizard.”
“Yep, I remember seeing a battle between him and Leon but Leon has always won the battle.” Alicia mentioned.
Katie smiled gently. “He’s not known as the unbeatable Champion for nothing.”
“Yeah! But I'm known as the unbeatable Champion of eating pancakes.” Rachel boasted.
“T-try not to eat too much…” Meadow spoke up. “You don’t want to get a tummy ache before your match with W-Whitney.”
Alicia agreed with her. “I prefer to eat a fruit bowl in the morning rather than a stack of pancakes.”
“Yeah, pancakes are nice on certain occasions.” Katie agreed. “For now, I’m more in the mood for a croissant.”
“I wonder if the croissants in Kalos taste different from the ones we have here?” Rachel wondered.
Katie shrugged. “I think it all depends on the recipe.”
“Totally.” Alicia said. “My family has a family recipe for a special kind of croissant you won't get in Kalos.”
“Th-that’s a-amazing…” Meadow spoke.
Rachel's eyes sparkle.
“What are you guys waiting for? I'm starving!” Rachel exclaimed.
The girls picked up some trays and gathered up some food for themselves as well as for their Pokémon before finding Arturo at a table.
“Morning, Arturo.” Alicia greets him.
“Good morning.” Arturo acknowledged. “I see you’re all up and early.”
“Thanks to a certain someone.” Alicia said.
“Dewott.” Aki agreed with her trainer.
“Given her enthusiasm, I can't say it's her fault since Whitney’s Gym is literally right next door.” Arturo stated as Rachel was tackling her stacks of pancakes.
“Still, we have plenty of time before we have to go.” Alicia added.
“And I’m sure Whitney’s not much of a morning person herself.” Katie added. “It’s not like she’s going anywhere.”
“Even Gym Leaders have a life outside of their Gyms.” Meadow nervously mentioned.
“Eevee vee!” Eevee barked, looking up from her bowl.
“Nessa, the Water-Type Gym Leader is a model.” Katie spoke up. “She actually makes time to balance her modelling career and still be a Gym Leader.”
“I’m not sure about Brock.” Alicia murmured “Isn't he a doctor?”
“Oh, you mean, a Pokémon Doctor?” Arturo inquired. “I believe so, but I haven’t heard much about his process given I heard rumors he gave up his promising career to co-work at a restaurant with someone.”
Rachel looks a little bit confused. “ Wait? Really?” She mumbled.
“Come to think of it… a student had posted something on the social media that he has a thing for girls he deems most beautiful.” Katie said slowly.
She got out her Smart Rotom Phone to show a photo of Brock at the academy with the other Gym Leaders last week, flirting with Nessa. The Pewter City Gym Leader had a lovestruck look on his face, his squinted eyes transformed into bright pink hearts while Nessa could only stare as she was in an awkward position.
Katie then awkwardly swiped on the screen again to show another photo of a Croagunk jabbing Brock in the side with a Poison Jab attack, causing Brock to painfully tip over, falling to the ground. Another swipe shows a photo of the frog-like Poison and Fighting-Type dragging Brock away by one of his legs.
“Oh jeez….” Alicia cringed as Meadow squeaked while grabbing Eevee for a hug.
“Dewott…” Aki winced in agreement as the other Pokémon sweatdropped.
“Wait, ain't you battling him first, Ali?” Rachel asked. Her smirk wasn't hard to miss.
Alicia sweetly responded, “Y-Yeah but I doubt he will flirt with someone like me.”
“As flattering it would be to have a guy complimenting you, I have to be honest, I would be a bit overwhelmed with such advances. Especially if it’s from someone I haven’t even met.” Katie agreed.
“Well, let's hope Whitney won't cry like she always does if she loses.” Alicia shyly responded. “My father said she's a little bit sensitive about losing to challengers. Although she eventually calms down.”
“M-maybe she grew out of it?” Meadow suggested.
Rachel shrugs in response before she places her tray away and tossed her half eaten apple in the same trashbin where the Grimer from yesterday is in.
“Grimer!” It happily accepted the half eaten apple from Rachel.
“Is that… usually a normal thing?” Katie asked awkwardly.
“Maybe it's from the academy's wild zone?” Alicia suggested. “Or it belongs to someone working in the kitchen.”
“Perhaps.” Arturo considered.
The others followed suit before they entered the main entrance of the academy to follow a group of students outside the academy.
“Looks like everyone is preparing to leave for their first Gym Challenge.” Katie observed.
Alicia nodded. “Yep, it's time to leave the academy to get our very first Gym badge.” She confidently said, walking out of the main entrance leading to the very park-like area where Alicia first met Katie and Rachel.
“Dewott!” Aki walked in front of her challenging Anubis the Riolu into a running competition.
“Riolu!” Anubis accepted the challenge and ran side by side with Aki.
Trix on the other hand remains on top of Alicia’s backpack.
“I-it’s almost rather c-convenient that one of our G-Gym battles starts right here.” Meadow spoke up.
“I’ll say.” Katie agreed. “Having a Gym in the same city seems like it’s the easy part, the drawback is how ridiculously strong the local Gym Leader is…”
“Yeesh, what’s with all the frequent reminders and negativities?” Rachel claimed, rolling her eyes. “You guys gotta stop being so worried about it.”
“All that we’re saying you still need to think things through.” Katie cautioned. “We know you like challenges, Rachel, but you can’t depend on just strength alone. As a Trainer, you still need to plan ahead with a strategy and look for a new angle.”
Alicia agreed with her. “My father always says it's good to have a strategy for each battle.” She added in while petting her Zorua. “He uses different battle tactics in every battle he takes part in.”
As Alicia spoke Aki, her Dewott won the race challenge against Anubis the Riolu.
“Dewott! Dewott!” Aki happily cheered while Anubis was a little bit exhausted from all the racing.
“Riolu…” Anubis mumbled, collapsing down into a sitting position on the ground.
“Come here, Anubis.” Alicia picked her Riolu up from the ground while she followed the others to the Gym.
“I still find it hard to believe that the academy is built and established in the same place as the Goldenrod City Gym.” Katie commented.
“Yeah, it's kinda weird.” Meadow admitted as they spotted the Gym just around the corner with one of their Teachers waiting at the front door.
“Is that Mr. Smith?” Rachel asked, curiously looking at the person talking with a much shorter female.
“Strange, I wonder why he’s here…” Arturo spoke.
“Didn't Mrs. Kay told us every teacher is visiting each region?” Alicia asked while she held her Riolu Anubis in her arms.
Curious, the group walked up to the Gym to witness the argument between their PE Teacher and the Gym Leader of Goldenrod City Whitney.
It seems like the Gym Leader is crying.
“Oh, for crying out loud, Miss Whitney!” Mr. Smith groaned. “You know how it goes when you battle with a challenger: if they’re able to defeat you, you’re supposed to congratulate them for their victory and hand them the badge they have earned. There is no need to cry over spilled Moo Moo Milk about it!”
“Oh, brother…” Alicia sighs as she and the others walk up to the conversation.
“I mean, all of the Gym Leaders have lost battles against several challengers who have worked and trained hard to earn those Gym Badges, but you don’t hear or see ‘em crying about it!” Mr. Smith reprimanded.
Rachel blinked in response. “So…. You guys weren't kidding about her crying habits.” She nervously gulped.
“Well, she's a crybaby if someone defeats her Pokémon.” Alicia added.
“Riolu!” Anubis agreed.
“So much for outgrowing it…” Katie sighed as she sweatdropped.
“Popplio…” Nalu added.
Whitney continued to cry before she calmed down long enough to sheepishly hand over the Gym badge to a senior student and his Infernape.
“Here you go. You’ve earned a Plain Badge for a job well done.” She sniffled.
“T-Thanks.” The student said, awkwardly receiving the badge.
“Infernape…” his Infernape sweatdropped like its trainer does before going to the next Gym.
Mr. Smith spotted the group while Whitney wiped the last few tears away.
“Speaking of it, here comes your next challenger.” Mr. Smith announced.
The group approached the front of the Gym, Rachel up front.
“Hi! My name's Rachel!” Rachel introduced herself.
“O-oh! I remember, you’re the Trainer I had picked to battle last week.” Whitney beamed. “Your teachers said, you like a tough challenge. You’re quite the spitfire from what I’ve heard.”
“She sure is.” Arturo agreed.
“I just hope you have trained hard, because I won’t go easy on you just because you’re a junior student.” Whitney warned.
“Funny, I was about to say the same thing.” Rachel smirked.
“Scorbunny!” Rachel's Scorbunny was ready to battle.
“That's the spirit!” Mr. Smith laughed. “Well, let's not stand still, we’re here to see a battle!”
#########################################################
The group entered the Goldenrod City Gym, following the Gym Leader Whitney and the PE Teacher Mr. Smith to the battlefield.
“We should watch from the sidelines.” Alicia said.
“Riolu!” Anubis agreed.
The group walked further back and stood on the sidelines to watch the battle.
Rachel on the other hand stood on the battlefield, PokéBall in hand.
“I hope you're ready.” She smirked.
“As I’ll ever be.” Whitney claimed. “Prepare yourself.”
The Gym referee stepped forward to state out the rules.
“Each opponent will use up to two Pokémon each. The challenger is allowed to switch out their Pokémon in between battles. If both Pokémon on either side are unable to battle, the opponent automatically loses.” He explained. “Ready? Battle begin!”
Rachel chose her partner Scorbunny first.
Whitney takes out a PokéBall and kisses it for luck before she throws it, crying out, “Let’s go! Blissey!”
“Blissey!” The Pokémon cried with a serene smile.
“Woah!” Alicia gasped. Her PokéDex App reacts.
“Blissey, the Happiness Pokémon, a Normal-Type and the evolved form of Chansey. Anyone who takes even one taste of its egg becomes unfailingly pleasant to everyone.”
“Let's see how this will go.” Arturo studied the battle from afar. “Fire-Type moves are usually effective against Normal-Type.”
“And Scorbunny also knows Double Kick, a Fighting-Type move that’s super effective against Normal-Types.” Katie confirmed.
Scorbunny uses the said move against the Blissey, landing a critical hit.
“Blissey!” Blissey wailed, stumbling back.
Whitney gasped. “No Blissey!”
Blissey groaned before pulling herself upright. She might have taken some serious damage but she can still fight.
“It’s not going to be easy. Is it?” Alicia inquired.
“No…” Arturo said grimly. “Blissey may not be as strong as Miltank, but no doubt she will still put up as much as a good fight.”
“Blissey, use Double Slap!” Whitney yelled.
“Blissey!” Blissey frowned, determined before she charged towards Scorbunny and repeatedly slapped him across the face with two slaps. “Blissey! Blissey!”
“Scor!” Scorebunny yelped in pain.
The rabbit-like Pokémon bounced across the battlefield and hit the ground.
“Scorbunny! You okay?!” Rachel cried.
“Scorbunny!” He responded, jumping back onto his feet.
“Okay! Use Ember!” Rachel ordered.
The Fire-Type inhaled before releasing a stream of small embers out of his mouth. The small fireballs pelted Blissey, who painfully tried to shelter herself with her arms. But it was hit on impact, causing it to be defeated.
“Blissey is unable to battle! The victory goes to Scorbunny!” The referee announced.
“Scorbunny!”
“Yes!” Rachel exclaimed.
“Sh-she really d-did it!” Meadow gasped.
“It ain’t over.” Mr. Smith reminded. “Whitney still has her ace for Rachel to deal with.”
As Mr. Smith said that, the Gym Leader released her last Pokémon.
“Come out, Miltank!”
In a burst of light, a large pink bipedal bovine-like Pokémon emerged from the ball, landing on her legs.
“Miltank!”
“So, that’s the infamously powerful Miltank…” Katie spoke as her own PokéDex app analysed the Pokémon.
“Miltank, the Milk Cow Pokémon, a Normal-Type. Miltank produces nutritious milk, so it’s been supporting people and other Pokémon since ancient times.”
“Hmmm, that would make sense.” Alicia said.
“It looks a-adorable.” Meadow squeaked. “It’s almost strange that some challengers w-would be so afraid of battling it.”
“Looks can be deceiving…” Alicia said with caution, remembering what John had gone through during his Gym battle with Whitney in the past.
Whitney smirked before she commanded, “Miltank! Use Attract!”
“Miltank!” The Normal-Type winked before blowing a kiss, sending a large pink heart flying towards Scorbunny’s direction.
“Scor!” His eyes turned into the shape of hearts as he had fallen in love with Miltank due to the events of Attract.
“Scorbunny!” Rachel panicked. “Snap out of it buddy!”
“And now use Roll Out!” Whitney yelled.
“Mil!” Miltank curled into a ball before rolling towards the Scorbunny. “Tank!”
“Scor!” Roll Out landed a critical hit on Scorbunny, causing him to fly across the battlefield.
“Dewott!” Aki flinched.
“Riolu!” Anubis cried.
“Ugh! A direct hit!” Katie winced.
“Pop!” Nalu yelped, covering her eyes with her flippers.
Sadly, Scorbunny wasn't able to battle as another Roll Out attack struck him.
“Scor……” Scorbunny collapsed on the battlefield, falling into unconsciousness.
“Scorbunny is unable to battle! The victory goes to Miltank!” The referee announced.
The group gasped.
“Oh my gosh!” Katie cried.
“Oh, dang!” Alicia exclaimed.
“Y-Yes her Miltank is g-g-good!” Meadow agreed.
Arturo remains silent as he informs the group about Rachel's other Pokémon she recently caught.
“As a quick reminder to you all her second Pokémon is a Hawlucha. A Fighting-Type.”
“True, but he’s also a Flying-Type, which makes him vulnerable to Roll-Out.” Katie cautioned with worry.
“Unless Miltank can't reach Hawlucha.” Alicia stated, confusing everyone but Mr. Smith.
“W-what do you m-mean?” Meadow asked, not understanding.
“Remember the battle we had yesterday?” Alicia responded.
“Yeah. What about it?” Katie replied.
“Well, Rachel's Hawlucha rarely stays on the ground as we battled.” Alicia explained. “Most of the time Hawlucha was in the air and that's a good case to win this battle here.”
Mr. Smith agreed, “Yes she's right. Roll Out won't reach Hawlucha if it's in mid air which makes the battle harder for Miltank.”
“S-so Rachel w-would have a chance of winning?” Meadow asked hopefully.
Hawlucha was released from his PokéBall as the group spoke about the strategy Rachel could be using against Whitney's infamously known Miltank.
“A Hawlucha?” Whitney responded in surprise rather than shock. “Oh well, it won't stay on the battlefield for long.”
She smirks before ordering her Miltank to use Attract once again.
“Miltank!” The Normal-Type sends another heart bubble towards the Wrestling Pokémon.
“Not this time!” Rachel smirked. “Hawlucha use Wing Attack!”
Her Hawlucha responded by flapping his wings to create a strong gust of wind.
The heart-shaped bubble vanishes on impact with the attack.
“See? That's what I mean.” Alicia said while Aki and Anubis were watching the battle. Trix woke up from the noise.
“That’s quite impressive.” Katie commented.
“Popplio.” Nalu added in.
Hawlucha struck a few wrestling poses, flexing his winged biceps.
“Now use Brick Break!” Rachel ordered.
“Hawlucha!” Hawlucha charges forward to deliver the blow.
“Milllltankkk!” Whitney's Miltank cried out as she got hit with a critical hit.
“And now we're finishing it with Flying Press!” Rachel confidently said.
She even turned her basecap around to look even more serious.
“Miltank use Roll Out!” Whitney yelled.
She wasn't ready to lose so soon. Not after her last match with the other student and his Infernape.
“Miltank!” Miltank turned into a ball again, trying to roll over the Hawlucha.
“Lucha!” But the latter dodged the attack right on time to strike with a powerful Fighting-Type move.
“That's a critical hit.” Alicia.
“Dewott!” Aki agreed.
“Keep it up, Hawlucha!” Katie cheered.
“MILTANK!” Whitney wailed worryingly as Miltank uncurled from her balled up form and crashed to the ground in a burst of a dust cloud.
As the dust cleared, Miltank was sprawled flat on her back, completely knocked out.
“Miltank is unable to battle! The victory goes to Hawlucha and Rachel from the Coconut Academy!” The referee announced.
“Nice one Rachel!” Alicia yelled.
“You did it!” Katie cheered.
“Pop! Popplio!” Nalu beamed, clapping her flippers in congratulation.
“Dewott!” Aki clapped too.
“Eevee vee!” Eevee barked happily.
“Yay.” Meadow said softly as Arturo applauded.
Hawlucha folded his winged arms, his head held high like the proud and victorious wrestler that he is. “Hawlucha.”
“Way to go Rachel!” Mr. Smith congratulated her for her very first Gym victory.
“Thanks, Mr. Smith.” Rachel said. She walks over to Hawlucha. “You did great out there, Hawlucha. You’re so awesome.”
Hawlucha posed, flexing his muscles with pride. “Hawlucha!”
Whitney sniffled as she got out Miltank’s PokéBall and recalled her. For a moment, it looked like she was going to bawl her eyes out again, but…
“Congratulations, Rachel. You really fought well today.” She said happily instead. “You’re actually among the few rare Trainers who actually manage to defeat me on the first try. True, I can be quite a crybaby when it comes to my losses, but hey, having a good cry is healthy.”
She giggled sheepishly while Mr. Smith sweatdropped with a groan.
“And for once, I’m more impressed by how well-trained Pokémon have been and how well they have fought for you.” Whitney spoke. She walks over to Rachel and presents her with a Plain Badge. “To commemorate your victory, I present to you the Plain Badge.”
Rachel smiled as she held the badge in her hand. “Yeah! I got the Plain Badge!”
“Scorbunny!” Her Scorbunny cheered, jumping up.
“Hawlucha!” Hawlucha crowed, posing and flexing his muscles.
“Congrats Rachel!” Alicia said.
“You did great out there!” Katie added.
“You learned fast from your mistake.” Arturo responded. “Looks like I’m the next one.”
“Y-you’re going to battle Falkner of the Violet City G-Gym, right?” Meadow asked.
Arturo nodded. “Yeah, his Gym is in Violet City.” He responded.
“We could use the bus for fast travel.” Alicia suggested. “Or the Magnet Train.”
“You know, I’ve always wanted to go on their Magnet Train.” Katie spoke up.
“Good thing we don't have to pay for a ticket.” Rachel informed the group.
“Yeah, we're allowed to go the train without paying for a ticket.” Alicia agreed.
“One of the perks of having a Trainer’s pass.” Katie smiled.
“Well, you should head to the train station before you lose the train in time.” Mr. Smith informed as he pointed to his watch.
“We’d better get going.” Arturo said urgently,
Alicia nodded. “Yeah, let's go!”
“Dewott!” Aki agreed.
“Thanks for the badge, Whitney!” Rachel yelled over her shoulder as she and the gang and their Pokémon hurried out of the Gym to get to the train station.
Whitney waved the group goodbye. “Good luck with the next Gyms!”
##########################################################
The group arrived at the train station in Goldenrod City just in time.
“Phew! We made it!” Alicia sighed in relief as she rushed inside the train leaving for Kanto with a stop leading to Violet City.
“Riolu!” Anubis sighed in response to her reaction.
The rest of her team were relieved to be inside the train rather than seeing it departing in front of their eyes.
“Just in time, too!” Rachel claimed, running on ahead. “C’mon, let’s get onboard!”
“Coming!” Arturo panted, following.
His Fennekin followed him inside the train. Katie, Alicia and Meadow hurried up from the rear, their own Pokémon not far behind.
Katie groaned in exhaustion as she sat down onto an empty seat by the window, Nalu sprawled on her lap.
Alicia picked up a seat on the opposite side. Aki rested on the seat next to her.
As everyone rested in their seats, a news jingle was heard, making them look up to see the built-in television from the ceiling of the train.
“Wait, is that…?” Arturo wondered.
“It's Rocket News!” blasted the television screen as the words appeared on the screen followed by a woman with pinkish long hair.
The woman is wearing a pale pink suit with a matching skirt in place of pants, a pale buttermilk yellow blouse, a light teal silk scarf around her neck, a gold bracelet on her left wrist, green spherical earrings and magenta pumps.
“Hello, and welcome everyone to our news program. My name is Jessie, the ever so fashionably fabulous and ever so fashionably fashionable reporter of Rocket News.” The woman informed. “Today, we are live here at Hammerlocke in the Galar Region where we’re taking a live interview with the local Gym Leader before he departs for the dazzling city of Wyndon for the finals.”
“Wait, since when has Team Rocket a news television show?” Rachel asked.
“Well… after Giovanni had disappeared and Team Rocket had disbanded, most of the grunts either went into hiding themselves, were arrested or some actually decided to reform and start a new life with a much more humble career.” Katie stated. “At least… I think some of them had a change of heart.”
“Now without further ado, let's go over to my partner James interviewing the Hammerlocke Gym Leader Raihan.” Jessie announced before the screen showed a man with Raihan standing behind him.
James has short blueish hair and green eyes, wearing a dark blueish-black suit, a white dress shirt, a violet necktie and polished dark brown dress shoes. He also has a teal pochette in the left breast pocket on his jacket and what appears to be a red rose pin on his lapel.
“Well, a wonderful hello from Galar, dear viewers.” He greeted. “Today I’m here with a very special person, the number two, the second strongest Trainer in the whole Galar Region. Raihan himself!”
The Hammerlocke Gym Leader casually greeted the viewers with a casual smile, showing a small fang and pulling one of his hands out from the front pocket of his draconic hoodie to wave.
“So, Raihan. The rumors must be true about your next challenger, right?” James asked the Hammerlocke Gym Leader.
“I wonder who it is.” Rachel wondered.
“Maybe Diantha?” Alicia suggested.
“Or there’s even Cynthia.” Katie added in.
“Looks like it could be James Powell.” Arturo informed the girls
“Well, I would love to have Leon as my next opponent but sadly it's James Powell.” Raihan answered with a shrug.
“James Powell? The former Indigo League Elite Four member?” James asked. “He must truly be a worthy opponent. Especially with such a handsome name like ‘James’. I should know, I just happened to be named James myself.”
James puffed out his chest with pride as he said this, making Raihan give him an awkward face that screams, “Ah, okay…”.
“Oh boy.” Alicia groaned.
“Katy, one of the Paldea Gym Leaders has a name just like mine that is spelled differently, but you don’t see or hear me making a big deal out of it.” Katie said, sweatdropping.
“Popplio…” Nalu sighed with a blunt look.
“Speaking of strong opponents, James Powell definitely has a strong ace on his side.” Raihan admitted, with sweat drops on his face. “His Garchomp and Blaziken are not easy to defeat.”
“H-he’s right. Mr. Powell’s P-Pokémon are really st-strong.” Meadow said.
Alicia nods before she and Raihan spotted the Mega Ring James wear.
“Since when does he have a Mega Ring?” She wondered.
“Huh? He does?” Rachel frowned.
“I don’t seem to recall any members of Team Rocket having any Pokémon capable of Mega Evolving” Katie said. “Not even Giovanni has any ace Pokémon that Mega Evolve, much less a Mega Ring of his own.”
“Doesn’t James have a Pokémon able to Megaevolve ?” Arturo asked.
“I think a Pokémon photographer had taken an accidental snapshot of them blasting off while taking pictures of Flying-Types via a balloon.” Katie mused. “In the photo, there was a Chimecho with them.”
She got out her Smart Rotom Phone and searched through it until she showed her friends an online photo of Jessie and James in their old Team Rocket uniforms, which were white with black boots and gloves instead of the signature black suits and grey boots of gloves the notorious organization were known for. They even lack the hats.
The two were comically soaring through the sky with a Meowth, a Seviper, a Cacnea, a Wobbuffet and indeed a Chimecho.
“Well, it seems to me they changed for the better.” Alicia added.
“Zorua!” Trix yawned.
“D-didn’t they try to steal a boy’s Pikachu back then?” Meadow asked.
“Yeah! They're after his Pikachu if I’m not wrong.” Rachel pointed out.
The group then returned to their attention to the interview as Jessie and James were talking to Raihan about the finals and his upcoming battle with James Powell.
“Since the finals will happen in a few hours, is there any advice you like to give young trainers?” James asked, smiling in the camera before he shoved the microphone near Raihan’s mouth.
“Well, since the junior students at the Coconut Academy in Johto are starting their Gym Challenge, I wanna wish ‘em the best of luck.” Raihan replied.
He then smirked over at the camera with casual confidence, as though he was acknowledging not only the students watching the interview but also Alicia’s group, almost knowingly.
“Especially to the Trainer I’m gonna pick. And I think I know exactly WHO that lucky trainer’s gonna be.” He concluded.
Alicia gulped all of a sudden.
“You okay?” Katie asked in concern.
“I don't know why, but I have this feeling he means me.” Alicia answered, a bit nervous.
“Oh, what?” Rachel scoffed. “C’mon, Ali, you can’t know that. I mean, he has a pick of any student in the academy.”
“On a scale of one to ten, he could pick any one of us other than you.” Arturo stated.
“He is keeping it rather… vague.” Katie added.
Alicia agreed with her friends, but still she has the feeling the Dragon-type Gym Leader wants to battle with her.
“Now that's an intense answer.” James chuckled. “Thanks for for the interview Mr. Raihan and good luck with the battle.”
“Thanks, I’m gonna need it.” Raihan replied. “He may have retired from the Elite Four business, but James Powell is still a real tough customer.”
“Yeah! No kiddin’!” A different male voice with a Brooklyn accent piped up in agreement from offscreen.
“Wobbuffet!” A Wobbuffet’s voice chimed in.
“Wait a minute, is that Meowth talking?” Rachel exclaimed in surprise.
“Didn’t you know?” Katie asked in confusion. “Team Rocket has always been seen with a talking Meowth. He even disguises himself to often pass himself up as a human alongside Jessie and James whenever they’re trying to con Trainers out of money or rob them blind of their Pokémon.”
Katie showed off several photos of the trio in disguises on her phone. Even their Wobbuffet was in on the disguising as he was dressed up as a girl with braided pigtails and thick red framed glasses.
They also had an Inkay poorly disguised as a Pikachu as Jessie and James attempted to pass themselves up as ten-year-old kids judging from the outfits and the wigs styled to look like those of children.
“How some people are so easily fooled by such paper-thin disguises is beyond me.” Katie said, rolling her eyes.
“Tell me about it.” Rachel agreed. “Even the blindest Woobat can tell that’s an Inkay badly disguised as a Pikachu. What kind of Trainer would actually fall for such a LAME disguise like THAT?”
“And that’s all for now! This is Jessie.” Jessie announced.
“And James!” James chimed in as he slid in at her side, holding his microphone in a suave manner as though he was holding his signature rose in the past.
“Rocket News will be blasting off for even more big action packed news!” Jessie declared.
“Stay tuned and be in for now!” James concluded.
“Meowth! That’s right!” Meowth piped up.
“Wobbuffet!” Wobbuffet popped up with a salute, his face practically filling up the screen.
The Psychic-Type was pulled back by his teammates as Jessie strained, “And now the weather!”
The screen changes to the next station the train will arrive at.
“Violet City central state is our next stop.” Alicia informed the others.
“You do know which Pokémon you’re going to battle Falkner’s, Arturo?” Katie asked.
“He uses Flying-Type Pokémon right?” Rachel added in.
Arturo nodded as he explained, “While I do have Fennekin and Absol, I’m sure they can put up a good fight with their types, but I had caught a Shinx a while back, so an Electric-Type should give me a proper advantage.”
“Yep, Electric-Types are very effective against Flying and Water-Types, yet they’re weak against Rock and Ground-Types.” Alicia explained while petting Trix her Zorua.
“Zorua.” Trix crooned, content with being petted.
“I just hope Glimmer will do well against my battle with Korrina.” Katie said. “Her Lucario is also a Steel-Type and Psychic-Types are not very effective if I’m not mistaken.”
Rachel responded with a confident smile on her face. “You sure will, Kate.”
“Y-you showed to be a great Trainer and you worked really hard to be prepared.” Meadow added in.
“We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.” Arturo concluded.
“Attention dear passengers! We will arrive in Violet City in a few minutes!” The loudspeaker announced the arrival of the next station.
“We should probably get up and be ready to depart the train.” Alicia explained while picking up her things as she spotted the Sprout Tower.
“We definitely should.” Katie agreed, adjusting the straps of her backpack when she slipped it on.
The others followed suit before the group stood in front of the doors as the Magnet Train arrived at the train station of Violet City.
As the train came to a stop the group noticed a man standing at the train station.
“Wait a minute, is that-?” Rachel started.
“Falkner?” Alicia ended her sentence.
“The V-V-Violet City G-G-Gym Leader?!” Meadow stuttered, overwhelmed with shock and anxiety of seeing a Gym Leader of all people in the middle of the train station.
And she wasn’t even the student to battle him.
“Vee?” Eevee squeaked as the anxious Meadow held her tight.
“Dewott?” Aki tilted his head in confusion.
“Riolu?” Anubis followed suit.
“What is he doing here?” Katie whispered in surprise and concern.
“Pop…” Nalu uttered.
“I don't know?” Alicia responded to her question. “Maybe he waited for Arturo?”
“I suppose that would make sense…” Arturo considered, holding his chin in thought.
The train doors open for the group and the rest of the passengers to leave the train or enter it. The gang exited the train as Falkner slowly approached them.
Behind or rather by his side unnoticeable at first was Mr. Smith with his partner Pokémon Skarmory in his Mega Evolved.
“Huh?” Katie spoke. “How come Mr. Smith’s Skarmory is in his Mega Evolved form?”
“Because it's faster that's why.” Arturo explained while he showed Katie the exact PokéDex entry for Mega Skarmory. “As the PokéDex mentioned, it's way faster than its normal state.”
“Oh…” Katie nodded.
“So that explains why he didn’t come on the train with us.” Rachel confirmed in realization. “Mega Evolution’s so hardcore.”
“Honestly I kinda guessed it.”Alicia sheepishly responded.
As the gang walked up to the Gym Leader of Violet City and their PE Teacher Mr. Smith the Gym Leader welcomes them to Violet City.
“Welcome to Violet City.” Falkner greeted. “I'm the Gym Leader of this city and you must be the students of the Coconut Academy right?”
“Y-yes sir.” Katie replied.
Falkner chuckled a little bit as he said, “You don't have to call me sir. Falkner is alright with me.” He then spotted Arturo among the group. “I trust you must be Arturo, the student I chose to battle, correct?”
Arturo nodded. “Yes Falkner. I'm prepared to battle.”
“That’s good to hear.” Falkner confirmed. “Would you all care to follow me back to my Gym? Unless you wish to rest for a moment. It had been quite a train ride over here.”
Alicia wasn't tired. The train ride was relaxing enough for her to continue to the Gym. But she didn't know about her friends.
“Nah, I’m good.” Rachel said casually, folding her hands behind her head.
“Umm… I-I-I’m fine…” Meadow stammered.
“I think I can manage, thank you.” Katie said in reassurance.
“To be honest, I’m ready.” Arturo stated.
“It seems the students are ready to see the next Gym battle Mr. Falkner.” Mr. Smith responded to the Gym Leader’s question.
Skarmory screeched in agreement with his Trainer and the students.
Falkner nodded curtly. “Then, let us be on our way.”
The group of students nodded before they followed the Gym Leader and the teacher to the Violet City Gym for Arturo’s Gym Challenge.
With the temperatures rising each day it's hard to focus on drawing or even sketching.
There's a reason why I prefer the fall season over summer.
It's cold, the leaves turn into a beautiful shape of red, orange and yellow.
And Halloween! There's nothing more to say.
Summer on the other hand is too frustrating to handle. Like warm temperatures are good and all but I don't like it if it's too hot inside my apartment let alone if you want to sleep.
I don't understand people enjoying the summer season if it means you sweat like crazy by just standing outside or just taking a walk to the trash bin.

Anyone else following the story of a Youtuber rescuing the Spyro The Dragon statue from the 2000 E3 convention?
Momoka and her boyfriend spotted the statue in an urban exploration video and started them on our journey to find and locate the poor dragon. He was being stored in an abandoned gas station in Oregon. Ironically he was discovered just a few weeks before the announcement of the new Spyro game.
You can see the statue in its full glory at E3 in this video.
She is posting updates on her various social media: Reddit, YouTube, Instagram. I'm insanely jealous that she found him but I'm glad she was able to save him and she'll work on restoring him. She plans to bring him to a retro fandom convention in Portland, Oregon.
Her photo for scale to see how huge he is, with the wings that they feared were missing but thankfully were found in the gas station.
Say cheese!

The following week have come and gone as the students took up training before their first Gym battle with their assigned Gym Leader.
Today, Alicia is training her Riolu by battling with Rachel’s Hawlucha in the school battle area as Katie and Meadow were watching from the sidelines while Arturo was acting out as the referee.
“Anubis, use Vacuum Wave!” Alicia ordered.
“Riolu!” Anubis yelped in response before sending a wave-like attack against the struggling Fighting and Flying-Type Pokémon.
Rachel grinds her teeth. Alicia's Riolu wasn't weak. It was strong. But her own Pokémon has a slight Type advantage against her.
Without further ado, she cracked her knuckles before ordering her Hawlucha to use its signature move Flying Press.
“Hawlucha!” The wrestling Pokémon yelled before jumping up in the air.
“I guess you would use this move.” Alicia smiled devilishly. She had a plan to win this battle. “Anubis, quick use Quick Attack!”
“Riolu!” Anubis nodded before he disappeared all of the sudden.
“Hawlucha?!” Hawlucha exclaimed as his attack missed its mark.
“Huh?! Wha-?!” Rachel sputtered. “Where’d he go?!”
She and her Hawlucha looked everywhere for the little Riolu to pop up again.
They looked everywhere but Anubis was too fast to be seen within the capability of the human eye.
“Riolu!”
Before Hawlucha or his Trainer could react, the Flying and Fighting-Type Pokémon was tumbled down by a very quick and powerful Quick Attack.
“So fast!” Katie gasped.
“I-I-Incredi-i-ible.” Meadow agreed.
“Eevee! Vee!” Eevee piped up.
“Looks like your Hawlucha is unable to battle Rachel.” Arturo declared. “Since you have Scorbunny, it's the only option to choose him next.”
Rachel rolled her eyes. She had to admit her Hawlucha was defeated by Alicia's Riolu. “Return Hawlucha, take a well deserved rest.”
She returns her unconscious Hawlucha before she asks her Scorbunny to enter the battlefield.
“Scor! Scor! Scorbunny!” He responded with kicks of joy.
Alicia used the opportunity to switch out to Aki, her Oshawott, giving her Riolu time to rest.
“Okay Aki!” She said confidently “We can do this!”
“Osha!” Aki responded.
“I’m not sure who I should be rooting for…” Katie admitted, conflicted between two of her friends.
“Pop…” Nalu sighed in agreement.
Scorbunny striked first with a Quick Attack Aki could barely dodged.
“Osha!” Aki grumbled in annoyance.
“Now use Double Kick!” Rachel ordered.
Aki tried to dodge it again but failed as Scorbunny landed two kicks from his strong feet.
“Aki!” Alicia cried upon seeing her partner falling down to the battlefield.
He wasn't unconscious yet. His fighting spirit was there, still burning.
“Her Oshawott is definitely not close to giving up.” Arturo stated.
“He’s a spirited little guy.” Katie commented.
Aki painfully managed to get on his feet. Bruised, he wasn't ready to give up the fight.
The cruel and callous comment from Thomas on the day that the students were choosing their starter Pokémon was in the back of his mind, the day the arrogant young man deemed him a stupid and weak otter.
He’s not stupid.
He wasn't weak.
He’s….
“Huh?” Alicia gasped as her Oshawott glowed bright blue.
“Aki… he’s evolving!” Katie exclaimed in complete awe.
“What?!” Rachel gasped in surprise. “So soon?”
“Scorbunny!” Scorbunny piped up.
Aki glowed brighter as his body and appearance changed before his evolution was complete.
“Dewott!” He yelped.
Katie got out her Smart Rotom Phone to analyse Alicia’s newly evolved Pokémon on the PokéDex app.
“Dewott, the Discipline Pokémon, a Water-Type and the evolved form of Oshawott. It’s said that people modeled swordplay after the way Dewott’s movements flow like water while wielding its two scalchops.”
“My goodness!” Meadow responded upon hearing the PokéDex entry.
“Congrats!” A female student with her Piplup said watching the battle from the corner.
“Woah!” Another male student gasped.
Alicia seems to be the first one in her class with her partner Pokémon to evolve.
“That’s awesome, Ali!” Katie cheered. “I bet battling Brock will be a shoe-in for sure now that Aki has evolved and will learn some stronger moves after levelling up!”
“Pop! Popplio!” Nalu barked, happily clapping her flippers together.
Alicia blushed a little bit before she remembered that her Dewott Aki is still in a battle with Rachel's Scorbunny.
“Scorbunny use Ember!” Rachel commanded.
“Scor!” her Scorebunny spew out a tiny finy ball towards Aki.
“Aki use Watergun!” Alicia countered.
“Dewott!” But it used a new attack instead called Water Pulse.
A small water bubble formed in front of Aki’s mouth before it was shot right in Scorbunny’s face.
“Scor!” He didn't fall unconscious but he seems to be confused from the attack.
“What’s happening?” Meadow asked.
“Looks like Scorbunny’s rendered confused from the attack.” Katie observed as little yellow birds circled Scorbunny’s head.
Rachel wasn't amused about this as she cried, “Come on! Snap out of it buddy!”
“Scor…” The Fire-Type didn't hear her as he teetered dizzily around.
Alicia used the opportunity to strike an attack.
“Aki, use Razor Shell!” She ordered.
“Deeeee!” Aki grabbed both scallops on his hips before running towards Scorbunny.
The scallops glowed blue with razor sharp edges to appear on its end.
“Wott!” With heavy strike the Fire-Type was defeated.
“Scorbunny is unable to battle!” Arturo announced. “The victory goes to Aki the Dewott!”
“Aw jeez. Wiped out again… Aw well, there’s always next time.” Rachel sighed, picking up Scorbunny. “Ya did good, buddy. You deserve a good long R & R.”
Alicia hugged her Dewott Aki for the won battle and its new evolution. “Great job buddy!”
“Dee…” Aki blushed slightly before hugging her back.
“I-I-I hope to get as strong as her one d-d-day.” Meadow sheepishly admitted, hugging her Eevee.
“Eevee…” her Eevee agrees with her.
“Don’t worry, I’m sure you will.” Katie said in reassurance. “This is a special school that helps Trainers grow after all.”
“Maybe you two should battle next?” Rachel suggested.
“I agree with her, maybe your Vulpix and Galarian Ponyta could learn new attacks.” Alicia agreed.
“Dewott!” Aki did too.
“How about it?” Katie asked, turning to Meadow. “This should give us some time to teach our Pokémon some strong attacks against our upcoming battles with our assigned Gym Leaders.”
Meadow sheepishly nodded before she stood up to take Rachel's battle place, Katie taking over Alicia’s on the other side of the arena.
“Is everyone ready?” Arturo asked before he started the battle.
“Glimmer! I choose you!” Katie cried as she tossed out her Heal Ball and Glimmer materialized with a neigh.
Meadow tossed her Love Ball out to release her Vulpix.
“Vul!”
Alicia and her Dewott Aki sat down next to Rachel and her Scorbunny.
“Good luck guys!” Rachel cheered them on.
“Scor!” Her Scorbunny did too.
“You can do it!” Alicia cheered as well while her Zorua Trix rested on her lap.
“Dewott!” Aki cheered Glimmer on to win this battle or to learn a new move like he did.
“Battle begin!” Arturo shouted.
“Glimmer! Use Tackle!” Katie cried.
Glimmer reared back on her hind legs, whinnying before she galloped forward to tackle the fox-like Fire-Type.
“W-W-Watch out, Vulpix!” Meadow shouted.
Her Vulpix reacts in time to dodge the attack. Glimmer snorted as she skidded to a halt.
“U-use Tail Whip!” Meadow nervously said.
Vulpix wags her tails multiple times, lowering Glimmer’s defense.
“Glimmer, use Confusion!” Katie yelled.
Glimmer’s mane glowed multiple colors as her horn glowed a bright blue. Vulpix yelped as she was surrounded by a blue glowing aura of psychic energy, lifting her off the ground.
“Dewott!” Aki yelled in excitement as the battle got intense.
Vulpix flailed around frantically as the attack lifted her higher. Meadow started to panic.
“Stay calm, Meadow! Concentrate!” Katie called out in encouragement.
Eevee pawed at Meadow’s leg to calm her trainer down and encourage her to focus on the battle.
Meadow calmed down before ordering her Vulpix to use Ember. The stream of small flames hit Glimmer, forcing her to lose her psychic hold on her opponent and taking some damage.
“Ouch! That’s gotta hurt.” Alicia cringed.
“Dewott!” Aki agreed with her.
“Zorua!” Trix flinched before curling up on her lap.
“Glimmer, are you okay?” Katie asked in concern.
Glimmer nickered but nodded to reassure her Trainer she's fine and ready to continue the battle.
Just then, a small gust of wind with sparkles surrounded the unicorn-like Pokémon, her mane aglow in multiple colors.
“What’s that?!” Rachel exclaimed.
Alicia grabbed her Smart Rotom device to check out the attack.
“It's Fairy Wind. A Fairy-Type attack.” She answered her question while her partner Aki the Dewott watched over her shoulder.
“I-it’s s-so pretty!” Meadow gasped, more awed than shocked.
“Vulpix?” Her Vulpix looks confused.
“Okay, let’s give this new move a test run!” Katie declared enthusiastically. “Use Fairy Wind! Let’s go!”
A strong wind of pink powdery, sparkling dust hit the Fire-Type Fox-like Pokémon.
“Vul!” Vulpix cried, getting blown back.
“That's a really strong move.” Rachel commented in surprise.
“Fairy-Type attacks are known to be strong like Dragon-type moves.” Alicia added in.
“And Dragon won't work on them. Similar to Electric moves won't work on Ground-Types.” Rachel added.
Arturo nodded as he reminded, “And since Katie’s going up against Korrina soon, Fighting-Type Pokémon are also weak against Fairy-Types. Since her Galarian Ponyta is a Psychic-Type that just learned a Fairy-Type move, she might likely have the advantage.”
“Same with Ali here. Her Dewott and Riolu have a good chance against Brock’s Rock-Type Pokémon.” Rachel stated.
“And your Hawlucha is good against Whitney’s Normal-Types.” Alicia commented.
“Use Tackle once more!” Katie yelled.
Glimmer neighed before she strikes for an attack.
Meadow nervously asked her Vulpix to use Ember but the Fire-Type uses Flamethrower instead.
“Vul!”
Glimmer whinnied in pain as the flames hit on impact.
“Whoa! Two Pokémon learning a new move in one day!” A student exclaimed.
“Three actually.” Another student corrected the other student. “James Powell’s daughter’s Dewott had learned a new move too.”
The first student sweatdropped in embarrassment.
“Glimmer!” Katie cried as Glimmer struggled up onto her hooves.
“This doesn't look good.” Alicia stated. “I hope it doesn’t result in a burn. If Glimmer is suffering a burn, her health will be depleted with each turn.”
“It looks like it is.” Rachel pointed out.
Despite the burn, Glimmer was still going strong, refusing to give up.
“I know this is grim, but we’re gonna put a lot into this attack!” Katie declared. “Use Confusion!”
Vulpix gasped as a blue aura appeared around her body lifting her up in the air again.
“Now use Fairy Wind!” Katie shouted.
Unable to move or avoid the attack, Meadow’s Vulpix was hit by the Fairy-Type move.
“Vul!” Vulpix cried, getting thrown back and crashing to the ground.
“Oh no! Vulpix!” Meadow screamed.
The fox-like Fire-Type tried to stand up from the ground but she was too weak to stand up, collapsing to the ground, eyes squeezed shut in exhaustion.
“Vulpix is unable to battle!” Arturo announced. “The victory goes to Glimmer the Galarian Ponyta!”
“You did it!” Katie cheered as she ran over to embrace her Pokémon happily. “You were amazing out there.”
Glimmer nickered happily before the burn hurt her. Katie quickly got out a Burn Heal as well as an Oran berry. She sprayed the Burn Heal to purge Glimmer of her burn before feeding her the Oran berry.
Meadow uses a Potion to heal her Vulpix. “H-H-Here, for y-y-you Vulpix.” She offered her an Oran Berry as well.
“Vul…” Vulpix mumbled tiredly, eating the berry.
The battle might be over but the experience and joy is still there.
“You did well today.” Katie congratulated Meadow. “I just know you and Pokémon will be strong and I think you’ll make a great rival.”
“T-t-thank you Katie.” Meadow nervously responded. “I’ll t-try to be b-b-better next time-e-e.”
Katie nodded. “When that time comes, neither of us should hold anything back. I want you to give it your all.”
“She’s starting to sound a lot like Leon.” Rachel joked.
“You think?” Alicia asked.
Katie blushed deeply upon the mention of the Champion’s name. And it most certainly doesn’t help that Trix used his illusion to make himself take on the appearance of Leon either, waving at her with a wide grin.
“Trix!” Katie moaned, sounding like a mortified teenager when her younger sibling naïvely told her crush she liked him. “That’s not funny!”
Trix transforms back into his normal form, snickering cheekily.
“Sorry!” Alicia apologized for her Zorua's actions. “I don't know why he did that.” She blushes.
Trix on the other hand, snickered mischievously, joking around.
“Dewott!” Aki grumbled.
“Scorbunny! Scor! Scor!” Scorbunny wasn't really amused about it either.
“I-it’s okay.” Katie said. “I’m sure he never meant any harm. For all we know, Trix is just joking around.”
Alicia wanted to respond but the ringing of the bell to announce the lunch break interrupted her.
“Man, I'm starving!” Rachel moaned in hunger as she rubbed her growling tummy.
“Scor. Scorbunny…” Scorbunny groaned hungrily.
“Yeah, I guess all that training and battling really worked up an appetite.” Katie giggled.
“Let’s eat something.” Alicia declared. “My stomach is grumbling like a Snubbull.” She sheepishly responded.
“Dewott!” Aki rubbed his stomach in hunger.
“I think mine’s just evolved into a Granbull.” Rachel groaned, her stomach growling surprisingly louder than everyone else’s in the group.
Alicia giggled a little bit before heading inside the cafeteria.
Everyone gathered some lunch and settled down at a table while their Pokémon dug into some Pokémon food and berries.
Aki sat down on the empty chair next to his trainer while Anubis and Trix ate on the blanket next to the table with Nalu, Scorbunny, Glimmer, Absol, Vulpix, Fennekin, Hawlucha, Eevee and Sobble.
“Who do you think should be going first during their Gym battle?” Katie asked after she took a bite of her ham and cheese sandwich.
“Well, Rachel should go first.” Alicia responded.
Arturo nodded as he explained, “Since Whitney's Gym is closer to the academy, it would be reasonable enough.”
“Who are your going to face Arturo?” Rachel asked in between eating her rice bowl.
“I am going up against Falkner, the Violet City Gym Leader who specializes in Flying-Types.” Arturo replied.
Alicia thought, “Maybe you should be next after Rachel beats Whitney.”
“Perhaps.” Arturo considered. “What about you? I suppose you will be battling Brock at some point yourself.”
“I could face him next before we head to the Kalos Region.” Alicia whispered nervously.
“Dewott?” Aki looks confused.
“Riolu?” Anubis could feel the nervousness of his trainer.
Even Trix stopped eating to look after her.
“Don’t worry. You have trained hard and you have a good team.” Katie said in reassurance. “With Aki and Anubis, I’m sure your battle with Brock will be easier than you think.”
Alicia’s Riolu even clung to her leg, gently stroking it to calm her down. A little bit at least.
“Yeah, you're right, but I worry about Aki and Anubis a lot and I don’t know if I might make a mistake.” Alicia admitted worryingly.
“To be honest… I kinda feel the same way.” Katie confessed. “As a Trainer, I really don’t want to let my Pokémon down if we lose a battle. I’m scared that I might not be good enough if I hadn’t trained well enough or if I can’t come up with a good strategy. I just don’t want my Pokémon to think less of me or if I have failed them.”
“Yeah that’s one way a trainer can grow.” Rachel added. “But listen guys, you are both good.” She said with a cheerful smile on her face.
“Scorbunny!” Scorbunny chimed in.
Arturo nodded in agreement to Rachel’s statement.
Meadow nervously nodded too.
“Thanks, guys…” Katie smiled gently.
Alicia smiled. “Really appreciate it.”
“Speaking of th-the Gym battle in K-Kanto…” Meadow stammered. “Isn’t Thomas g-going to battle Lt. Surge? I-I’ve heard he’s terrifyingly tough with his E-Electric-Types.”
The group nodded. “Yeah, he has to battle Surge and his infamously known Raichu.” Rachel responded before taking another sip of her apple juice.
“I heard a Pokémon Trainer had beaten his Raichu with just a Pikachu.” Alicia mentioned.
“You're kidding right?” Rachel asked in disbelief. “There’s no way a Pikachu could defeat its evolved form!”
“From what I had gathered, the reason the Trainer’s Pikachu was able to defeat Surge’s Raichu was because Surge had his Raichu evolve too soon.” Arturo stated. “While his Raichu is physically strong, it lacks speed, the ability it can only learn in the Pikachu stage.”
“That would make sense.” Alicia admitted “I don’t want to force my Pokémon to evolve so soon but I wouldn’t be sad about it either.”
“I-I did purchase a Fire Stone the other d-day.” Meadow spoke up. “But I’m going to wait until my Vulpix gives me permission to evolve her whenever she feels ready. But I am conflicted if I want Eevee to evolve too…”
“I’ll let them evolve if they want to.” Rachel said confidently before she and her Scorbunny high-fived.
“Yeah, like people, Pokémon do have a choice.” Katie agreed. “My own Pokémon will evolve whenever they feel ready. They can take all the time they need when that day ever comes.”
“Popplio!” Nalu cheered.
“Dewott!” Aki clapped.
As the lunch break came to an end the group gathered their things, put their trays away and dumped their trash in the trashcans.
One trashbin surprisingly talked or it seems like it was but in reality a Grimer snuck inside of it to eat all the trash.
“Grimer!” The Grimer beamed, happily munching on the discarded trash, even devouring an apple core.
Alicia was about to pick up her shoulder bag when Aki, her Dewott grabbed it instead.
“Huh? Aki, you want to carry my bag?” She asked.
“De! Dewott!” Aki responded cheerfully.
“Looks like you have quite a gentleman.” Katie said jokingly.
“I sure have.” Alicia admitted. “Although it seems Anubis wants to help as well.” She pointed out to her Riolu helping Meadow out before grabbing a small bag filled with berries for himself, his Trainer and the rest of her team.
“Riolu! Riolu!” He offered an Oran berry to Alicia.
“Pokémon are always so eager to please, ain’t they?” Rachel commented.
They returned to their classroom after the lunch break.
Just as Rachel opened the door, the group witnessed an argument between Thomas and a male student with a Charmander as his partner.
“Give it back!” The male student shouted.
Thomas snickered in response while his pals laughed. Even mocked the boy's voice.
“Oh, jeez, what has he done now?” Alicia thought to herself.
“Why should I?” Thomas smirked. “You chose a weak Pokémon, that's all.”
“Hey! That’s enough!” Katie demanded as she stormed over. “You heard the man: return what rightfully belongs to him! NOW!”
“And who are you again?” Thomas blatantly asked.
“Someone you’ll regret ever crossing when it concerns jerks like you!” Katie shot back.
Martin and Anthony giggled. Like two idiots they are.
“Why don’t you mind your own business?” Thomas sneered.
“I DON’T care if your dad’s a Gym Leader! That doesn’t give you the right to be a bully!” Katie argued. “This is a school for Pokémon Trainers with potential and a bright future! If you and your goons are going to make completely immature toddlers of yourselves…”
She lifted her hand up and jabbed her thumb over her shoulder, pointing behind her.
“Kindergarten is that way!” Katie declared.
Martin and Anthony weren’t laughing for long as their jaws dropped while Thomas gaped at her in anger. Given their reaction, they were obviously not used to someone standing up to them and making such a bold statement like that before.
Even Alicia and her other friends looked surprised. Except for Rachel, who smirked in approval, impressed by Katie’s courage to stand up to the bullies.
Before Thomas could fire back a rebuttal, a familiar older female voice spoke up in a stern tone:
“What is going on here?”
“Mrs. Kay!” A female student cried.
“T-Thomas and his f-friends we’re picking on this boy.” Meadow stammered, pointing at Thomas and his roommates, with Thomas still holding the item he had taken from the student.
“Char! Char!” The boy’s Charmander cried.
“What have you stolen Mr. Thomas?” Mrs. Kay asked sternly, her usually warm demeanour replaced by cold disappointment in one of her students.
Thomas shivered in fear. A rare sign Alicia has only seen once from his father Clay when she was six years old.
“A….” He hesitated before a small book, looking like a diary dropped on the floor right next to Thomas’s seat.
“Th-that’s what he took!” The boy cried. “It’s full of very personal and private memories I had written in and he and his friends were about to read it aloud to the entire class!”
Usually, Mrs. Kay wasn't known for her anger. But the reddish glow on her face wasn't because she was embarrassed but pure rage.
She took a deep breath before she spoke;
“Mr. Thomas, Mr. Anthony, Mr. Martin, I would like to have a word with the three of you after class.”
“Y-yes, Mrs. Kay…” Thomas sighed while Anthony and Martin both slumped in humiliation, slinking back into their seats.
Katie picks up the dairy and hands it back to the boy with the Charmander.
“Th-thank you…” The boy spoke, smiling at Katie as though she was a guardian angel.
“Char! Charmander!” His Charmander beamed.
“You're welcome.” Katie nodded before she and her friends took their seat.
Slightly relaxed, the teacher moved to her desk to announce the beginning of the Gym Challenge the students have to face.
“It's time for you to face the Gym Leaders who picked you up as an opponent.” She announced, smiling like sunshine in the Alolan sky.
Every student was really excited, some were nervous like Alicia, Katie and Meadow. But others like Rachel were ready to battle.
“The Coconut Academy takes the Gym Leader challenge very serious.” Mrs. Kay reminded her students.
Challenging the Gym Leader shouldn't be taken so easy. Every Gym Leader has his or her own strength and weakness.
According to Mrs. Kay, a few former students cheated the challenge by not entering the Gyms or not even battling them.
Her students gasped or reacted in disgust.
Katie lifted her hand as she asked, “What will happen to any student who actually cheats by not entering the challenge or not battling the Gym Leader who picks them?”
“A visit to the Director.” Mrs. Kay answered grimly. “And you can be certain whatever punishment he has planned will be anything but a week’s detention.”
A few students gulped in response to her answer.
“To avoid any of this the academy added a slight change to the challenge.” She explained. “Each region will be visited by one teacher to check on the students, giving them tips or in case of anxiety or nervousness to motivate them.”
Her eyes fell on a shy Meadow hugging her Eevee.
“For instance, I will visit Kanto and hope to see you all win a Gym Badge.” She smiled doing a pose similar to a Z-Move for the Physic-Type.
All of the students (sans Thomas and his roommates, who were still dreading their impending doom of getting a stern talking to later) chuckled.
Suddenly, a knock on the classroom door confused the entire class. Everyone wondered who it could be as the door opened and a shiny Emboar pushed the wheelchair bound cooking teacher, Mrs. Alton inside.
“Thank you, Emboar.” She thanked her partner.
“Emboar!” The Fire-Type snorted happily.
She and Mrs. Kay nodded before the latter explained the following, “While visiting the Gym Leaders, you have to rely on your Pokémon and on your cooking skill.”
Mrs. Kay opened up a package Mrs. Alton's Emboar had placed inside on each table.
“Inside these packages are a camping tent, cooking supply, a map for each region and, most importantly, your very own Trainer Pass and case to hold your Gym badges you earned.”
Mrs. Kay opened one with Katie's photo on to show it before handing it to Katie.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Alton and her Emboar handed over the rest of the packaging while explaining how to use the mobile cooking station for cooking curry and sandwiches to a few students.
“I heard the Kalos Region use Pokémon as mobile transportation.” A student with a Grookey as a partner raised his hand. “Can we use them too for easy traveling?”
Many more students wanted to asked the same question before Mrs. Kay explained everything in detail and what her students have to know before they head out tomorrow.
“Of course you don't have to travel all alone. I prefer it if you travel in a group of three or five.” She happily accepted the question from another student.
“Were thoughts about if we’re allowed to do some sight seeing in the town or city where the Gym Leader resides before or after our Gym Challenge?” Rachel inquired curiously.
“Your Trainer ID card allows you to visit any Pokémon Center or hotel near the Gym if you like to stay for sight seeing or training.” Mrs. Alton answered.
Alicia sighed in relief.
“Dewott.” Aki did too.
“What happens if we lose the first time?” One student with a Quaxly asked.
“You’re allowed to challenge the Gym Leader again.” Mrs. Kay explained. “That's why we visit the gyms to help out in case you don't win the first time.”
The students looked relieved to hear this.
Meadow sighs in relief too. Her Eevee rubbed her head against her Trainer’s chest.
“Vee! Vee…” The Normal-Type crooned.
“Should we create a group?” Alicia asked the others.
“That’s pretty obvious.” Rachel smirked as she winked.
“I think we pretty much formed a tight knit group the past week.” Katie added.
Arturo and Meadow agreed with Katie. Several students chatted and planned their group. There was no mistake of who Thomas wanted in his group as he, Anthony and Martin were still sulking at their desk.
“Then, it's decided we're going to the first Gym tomorrow.” Arturo declared.
“Oh heck yeah!” Rachel exclaimed, practically jumping out of her seat, all fired up. “You’d better be ready, Whitney, ‘cause here I come! Ready or not!”
“Scorbunny!” Her Scorbunny cheered her on.
“Try not to get too excited.” Katie cautioned. “Remember that her Miltank is said to be really strong. Even Alicia’s brother had trouble beating her.”
Alicia nodded. “Yeah, his Torterra back when it was a Grotle had trouble with her Miltank.”
She remembered the exhausting expression he had after defeating her on his third try.
“Hey, my Pokémon and I had trained all week for this.” Rachel insisted. “Besides, with you guys cheering me on, it’ll be fine. Besides, I’m the kind of girl who likes her odds.”
“Hawlucha!” Her Hawlucha roared, flexing his winged biceps.
“N-nothing ever seems to discourage you, is there?” Meadow commented meekly.
“Still you should be aware of her Roll Out move.” Arturo mentioned. “Your Hawlucha might be a Fighting-Type but it's still weak against Rock-Type moves.”
“And there’s also the move, Attract, which makes Pokémon of the opposite gender become infatuated by the opponent Pokémon.” Katie added in warning. “And given that both your Pokémon male, it’s gonna be a serious problem.”
“Pop…” Nalu said slowly.
“So if Whitney uses that as a last resort IF you do manage around Roll Out, you need to be careful.” Arturo finished.
“Eh, don't worry about it guys.” Rachel responded with no worry about it. “My Pokémon will help me defeat her no matter what she's going to throw at us.”
Scorbunny confidently rubbed a paw under his nose, not too worried himself.
Alicia's Zorua, Trix yawned in response.
“Zoooruuaaaa!”
“Are you tired already? It's not even…”
She looked outside the window. It was close to night time. The sun is starting to set and the first night stars were visible in the sky.
“Huh…” Rachel uttered. “Time really DOES fly when you’re having fun.”
“It seems we should head to our rooms to take a well deserved rest.” Arturo expressed.
“Fennekin.” Fennekin agreed.
“We do have quite a day ahead of us tomorrow.” Katie sighed.
“Dewott!” Aki agreed before he followed his trainer outside while Thomas and his friends had to stay a little bit longer.
“I know they deserve to be punished for how they had treated that boy but… I-I do hope Mrs. Kay won’t be too hard on them…” Meadow whispered. “I-I had never seen her this upset before. She’s usually s-so nice and happy through rain or shine.”
“Me neither.” Alicia added.
“Yeah… watch out for the nice ones.” Rachel shrugged.
The group splits up to return to their own rooms to pack their things they needed before the next day arrives.
“I'm unsure if I should take my clock with me.” Alicia asked. “Or stick to my Pokétch I got from Aunt Cynthia.”
“Aunt… Cynthia?” Katie spoke up. “Are you… talking about the Sinnoh Champion? The Sinnoh Champion’s YOUR AUNT?!”
“Yep, she's my aunt. Not biologically speaking, but she took care of me and my brother when we were younger.” Alicia explained, sweat dropping.
“That’s… incredible…” Katie said. “You certainly have an interesting life.”
“Eh, it's okay.” Alicia replied. “Usually, I help out in the bakery my family owns or take a stroll through the city.”
“I often visit my favorite garden park when I walk into town.” Katie said. “I just love the scenery and it helps me take my mind off of my problems.”
“I always wanted to visit the Galar Region.” Alicia sighed.
“It is a lovely place, but it has been having some energy issues of late…” Katie said slowly.
“I had read about one issue in Hammerlocke.” Alicia mentioned. “The Gym Stadium had a blackout during an intense battle with Raihan and a challenger.”
“Chairman Rose, the President of Macro Cosmos had mentioned in the news that he and his company were practically working around the clock to solve this issue to prevent the region from facing future diseasters.” Katie mentioned.
“Popplio…” Nalu squeaked in worry.
“My dad said he had trouble reaching my mom before he arrived at the hotel nearby.”
“I’m so sorry about that.” Katie apologized. “There are times I wish I could do something about helping my home region and all of the people who live there as well as visitors.”
“It’s okay. I understand that feeling you have, but remember it's not your fault and I think Chairman Rose will find a way to fix this issue.” Alicia said.
Katie reached into her backpack and pulled out the old journal belonging to her ancestor.
“A lot has been happening since the last passing week, hasn't it?” She asked.
Alicia nodded in agreement. “Yeah, it's kinda hard to avoid it.”
She couldn't believe her ancestor had a connection with a Legendary Pokémon.
“If there’s ever a time if one of us has a Gym Challenge in Galar or if the next school trip is a visit to Silverwood, I might try to see if I can learn a bit more about Princess Elora and her connections with the Legendary Heroes.” Katie murmured.
“Same here. If we visit the Unova Region I want to find out more about Alyssa.” Alicia grabbed the suitcase from under the bed with the Light Stone inside.
“Still, we need to be careful about how we’ll do that.” Katie said with precaution. “I know we can trust our friends, but with people like Team Rocket likely on the prowl, we can’t risk pouting everyone and the Legendary Pokémon in danger.”
“Team Plasma is as bad as them.” Alicia gulped.
Katie shuddered. “Yeah… it actually scares me to death that such people would try to make Trainers give up their Pokémon either by stealing or by force…”
Alicia knows both Evil Teams don't exist anymore but she was scared.
“Dewott…” Aki spoke, rubbing her arm.
“Zorua…” Trix crooned, nuzzling against her leg.
“Thanks guys.” Alicia sighed, appreciateing the comfort of her Pokémon.
She petted Trix and Aki while Anubis enjoyed her company on the bed.
“Your support is very much appreciated.” Katie spoke softly as she hugged Nalu while Glimmer nuzzled her.
“We should take the suitcases with us.” Alicia suggested.
She had a feeling they could be useful in the near future.
“You sure?” Katie asked in concern. “I suppose it would be too risky to leave them behind back in the academy if someone were to enter our rooms in our absence and be poking around in places they shouldn’t…”
Alicia nodded. “I don't know but I had this weird dream lately.”
“Dream…?” Katie echoed.
“Pop?” Nalu uttered, tilting her head.
Alicia's Pokémon looked concerned too.
“I don't know how to describe it but in my dreams lately I hear a voice begging me for help to go to a certain tower.” Alicia responded. “And each time I climb up the tower only for my dream to end with a weird silhouette of a woman and a large white dragon in front of my eyes.”
“Now that you had mentioned it… I actually had a similar dream.” Katie spoke up. “I didn’t want to worry you but… I have a feeling it’s not a coincidence…”
Glimmer nickered in concern and sympathy as she and Nalu looked at their Trainer.
“In my dream, I was lost in the Slumbering Weald back in Galar. I was trying to find my way out when I encountered a pair of strange Pokémon.” Katie explained. “The funny thing was… they didn’t try to attack me. In fact, it was almost like… they were expecting me. And what 's even weirder is that there was what seemed to be a girl with them. Like… she was with them. But I woke up before I could work out what it all meant.”
“Could it be that the legendary Pokémon are trying to reach us?” Alicia suggested.
Katie pauses, thinking it over. “Maybe…?”
Alicia looked closer to the Light Stone. Looking for answers she hasn't yet.
“Whatever it means, we might get a clue if we visit the places.” Explained Alicia before she placed the Light Stone inside her backpack.
“Surprisingly, it's not heavy and feels a little bit warm.” She noticed.
“And I have to be honest, the journal’s in decent condition after all these years even though it is old.” Katie commented, running her hand over the smooth leather-bound book. “The Director most certainly took good care of it for keeping it this long after finding it.”
“Yeah, it hardly looks like a thousand year old journal if it’s that well looked after.” Alicia admitted.
Whatever is written in it or what the Light Stone is capable of, Alicia agreed it's time to get some rest.
Both girls changed to their pajamas. Alicia has her Riolu and Lucario themed pajamas on.
“We should get some sleep before Rachel decides to wake us up with her hurricane of a knock.” Alicia pulled over the covers of her bed with Aki and Anubis laying down comfy under the blanket with her.
Trix rested on the second pillow near his trainer's head.
“Yeah.” Katie sighed in agreement, settled in her Galarian Ponyta pyjamas. “I swear she’s a bigger morning person than I am.”
She climbed into her own bed with Nalu snuggling up next to her as Glimmer was nestled at the foot of the bed on a nest of pillows and blankets.
Both wished each other and their Pokémon a good night before the darkness embraced the room.
The room remains quiet with the exception of a glow coming from Alicia's backpack as well as Katie’s.

Pokémon: Over a New Horizon - Thomas TV Tropes
A/N: Warning, this fanmade TV Tropes will contain potential spoilers. Please read with care. This OC belongs to my pal, @thatdawgthatdraws.
Son of Driftveil City Gym Leader, Clay and brother of Lacey, Thomas is a rude and arrogant Trainer who had bullied Alicia long before they had both enrolled in the Coconut Academy. He cares about one thing: Becoming the best and regards any Trainer and their Pokémon beneath him, even callously outing them as weak.
Always Someone Better: Alicia is this to him, much to his ire. And it most certainly doesn’t help that his dad frequently comes Always Second Best to Alicia’a father.
Arch-Enemy.
Arrogant Kung Fu Guy:
Break the Haughty:
The Bully:
Comically Serious:
Curb-Stomp Battle: On the receiving end of it on his first official Pokémon with Alicia despite having a huge type advantage against her Oshawott, Aki. The reason he lost was because he repeatedly tried to have his Chikorita use attacks he either hadn’t learned yet or can’t nor even knows yet.
Deadpanned Snarker:
Death Glare: Is prone to give out one of these whenever someone annoys him.
Didn’t Think Things Through:
Disproportionate Retribution:
Expy: According to @thatdawgthatdraws, Thomas is basically inspired by Paul from the Diamond and Pearl anime, only much more smug and antagonising towards other trainers. He is also likely a mild parody of Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter.
Karmic Butt-Monkey: Nowhere near to the extent of his roommates, but Thomas isn’t immune to some humiliating comeuppance on some rare occasions, such as when he and his Chikorita had gotten splashed by some upset Water Pokémon in the coast biome while he was trying to paint some during an art class session.
Laser-Guided Karma:
Spoiled Brat: Implied. Since his father’s a Gym Leader who’a the president of a mining company, his rich upbringing apparently did a real number in the guy’s attitude.
