The clock on the mantel ticked loudly as the minutes passed him by. Klaus removed his glasses and rubbed at his eyes. It was getting late, but he needed to finish this work. He turned the page and frowned when a piece of paper fell out of the book. Letter’s scrawled in Liz’s hand jumped out at him and he picked up the paper.

“It’s probably late, and you’re still working. I know you like to bury yourself in your office when I’m gone. Go to bed.”

He fought a small smile, but threw the note in the fire. Liz wasn’t here and he could work as long as he pleased. He turned the page and another note fell into his lap.

“You’re stubborn and probably ignored the first note. Luckily I know you well. Put the book down, Darling.” 

Klaus shook his head and wondered when Liz had gotten to know him so well that she knew to prepare things like this. He turned the book over to see if she left him any more surprises. Two more notes drifted to the surface of his desk.

“Fine then, I’ll take drastic measures.” 

Klaus scoffed, he doubted she could think of anything horrible enough to tempt him to go to bed.

“If you don’t leave your office by 10:00 p.m. I’ll send Randy in there to pester you until you do. I love you.”

~ Liz is new there, she struggles to remember everything from how to work the till to what was your name again to oh gods spilled another drink. But she’s an asset, she retains all of the regulars’ usual orders within a week without help, she smiles through everything, her bubbly personality infects even the grumpiest customers, and she’s so eager to work.

~ There is no accurate description for the face she makes the first time she hears it – six sugars in a small drink. Six. When she repeats it back to the customer to confirm that she had heard it correctly, Klaus rubs his temples and insists that this time she had better make it seven.

~ That same man’s brother Elias is her coworker. The one that is utter perfection in a barista, but for some reason screws up everytime he catches her watching him with such plain adoration for his skills behind the counter. Hm.

~ There’s this one particularly unnerving customer who flirts with her every time he comes in, and at least once asks her to write her number on the cup instead of his name. “Your number” she writes, letter for letter as he asked. She doesn’t even know his name. Elias thinks her response to the guy (Luca, he tells her) is hilarious, but the next time Luca comes in he asks Elias the same. It ends with a drink on Luca, a drink on the house, and a trip to the manager’s office.

It was the squealing of the masses that had Azusa tucked behind his buddy and lover of nearly a year, blue collar upturned to hide what he could of the back of his head. Posters decked the halls of Gedonelune Academy, sporting the faces of the nominees for Gedonelune’s most loved gentlemen, and booths filled the courtyard. Students of the academy were encouraged to vote for their favorite, and, of course, to buy additional votes with novelties that sent a chill down his spine.

“Why are we here?” he whispered harshly, dipping closer and features souring further at a poster bearing his likeness.
