Installation 14th-23rd June, 2014. Camberwell Arts Festival 2014.
t was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen. It was only two years ago, but here stood the man with the suit and the face, thirty ghosts at his rear, for that is the ratio by which the dead outnumber the living.
Like a high prison wall, he froze, stood so tall. Then he, The Star Child, waited; marshalling his thoughts and brooding over his still untested powers. For though he was master of the world, he was not quite sure what to do next. But he would think of something.
Accidents, crimes, natural and man-made disasters, threats of conflict; all mimsy were the borogoves, and the mome raths outgrabe. Yet the man wondered if this was altogether a bad thing; the newspapers of Utopia, he had long ago decided, would be terribly dull.
- Carroll, Clarke, Kemp, Orwell.

Flesh and Bone: Francis Bacon and Henry Moore
A new exhibition at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, showing two contemporaries alongside each other. An extract from press release:
In their different mediums, Moore and Bacon created unforgettable images of the human figure. The distinctive visual languages that each artist developed over more than half a century were marked by a growing simplicity and monumentality of form. Their perspectives differed: Moore clung to a belief in humanism, while Bacon espoused a post-humanist, nihilistic view of the world. In expressing their visions of humanity, the two artists had very different approaches: Bacon working from the outside in, disintegrating and dissolving form; Moore from the inside out, pushing anatomical structure to the surface.
Runs until 19th Jan, 2014

Bartlett Summer School 2013 - Group 3's Early Ideas
Group 3, tutored by myself, Christine Bjerke and Owain Williams, has started the fortnight well with trips, visits and workshops. Early investigations have proposed a mirrored labyrinth at Covent Garden, a transformable tower on Hampstead Heath and a slowly-moving float on the Southbank. More images to come next week.

'Wooden Churches' by Richard Davies
A series of photographs taken since 2002 by Richard Davies of Orthodox churches in Northern Russia. Inspired by a photographic study 100 years earlier, Davies sets out to capture the fragility of the timber structures in the Russian climate and the care and decoration applied in their maintenance and liturgical use.
A similar study is to be completed by myself as part of the Bartlett Travel Scholarship in which I will travel between Moscow and St. Petersburg, investigating the relationships between religious iconography and architecture, and the importance of maintenance to Russian architecture.
