Yeah yeah I know Kimby Kloss liked a tweet that said it was a Kaylor song but Kimby Kloss is dumb.  She likes just about everything that is @ed to her including this Alice in Wonderland tweet which proves she is actually a Swiftgron shipper:

so i think we can all conclude that Kimby is just a dumbass with a social media account(much like the person that runs this tumblr) and not some brilliant social media mastermind hiding secret truths in her social media posts.  she just likes stuff that people tag her in, it’s not that deep, and if we read TOO far into her social media activity then we can conclude she’s fucking besties with ivanka trump.

Let’s set all that aside.

I know I know places was recorded in january 2014 but i think there’s a very good chance she had written it well before the recording session.  Here’s what she said on the voice memo for the song:

“I sent this voice memo to Ryan Tedder because I’d always wanted to work with him, and finally we scheduled some studio time. So I always wanna be prepared. I wanted to send him the idea that I was working on before we went into the studio just in case he wrote back and said “I can’t stand that, I wanna work on something else, think of something else”. “

So we know she had the first draft of this song before January 22nd when she recorded the final version of the song.

Furthermore we know Taylor was still processing her relationship with Dianna through all of early 2014.  She wrote Style and Clean about Dianna in February 2014 and we know she was trolling the Glee set sometime in early 2014 still looking for her.

I don’t think anything serious happened with Karlie until March 2014 (”something happened for the first time in the darkest little paradise…trip of my life!…now i’m your daisy”) on the Big Sur trip.

When Taylor explains the song she likens it to Out Of The Woods which we know is about Dianna:

Furthermore Taylor easter egged the “they are the hunters we are the foxes” lyric when she went out with Harry in late 2012 with her fox shirt.  I think she had already written that line and wanted it to be tied back to him (the same way she had “your necklace hanging from my neck” tied back to him, along with dozens of other eggs Taylor is infamous for planting):

If that line was conceived in 2012 then the song is undoubtedly about Dianna (or you know, Harry, if you’re an insane hetlor that still enjoys this blog.)

In the Taylor Swift Cinematic Universe, Dianna canonically has Green eyes.  They are mentioned in Everything Has Changed, and of course the most Dianna song in the history of all music, Wonderland.  

I don’t know what eye color Karlie is supposed to have but if you think Gorgeous and Delicate are about her then Taylor sees them as blue.  

I Know Places is actually very similar, thematically to Wonderland.  They’re both songs that make heavy mention of other people’s take on a relationship.

So like many of you when I first heard cardigan I though “ok obviously this song is about about Karlie Kloss or perhaps Joe/The London Lover” but since this July we’ve gotten lots of new info.

First of all, Karlie is now pregnant with her husband, essentially proving once and for all that whatever Kaylor was it’s over.  She likely conceived over the summer so we know Kaylor was over then as well.

Secondly, Taylor seemed to confirm that Karlie did betray her to Scooter as suggested by her friends Ashley and Claire and Super Swiftie Spencer Pratt (who received a cardigan) with the song It’s Time To Go with the lyrics “When the words of a sister come back in whispers / That prove she was not in fact what she seemed / Not a twin from your dreams / She’s a crook who was caught”. 

Given that Taylor is releasing absolute drags about Karlie in her contemporary music I really don’t think she’s saying anything as sweet as the sentiment of cardigan about Karlie right now.

Here’s Taylor’s own words about the song: The song is about a lost romance and why young love is often fixed so permanently within our memories.  Why it leaves such an indelible mark…This is a song that’s about long lost love, and looking back on it and how special it make you feel, all the good things it made you feel, all the pain that it made you feel.”

So this seems to point to the idea that Taylor is drawing on an old, past love as inspiration for this song, so not Joe/the London Lover.  The permanent and indelible mark she seems to reference sounds very specifically like the lyric from This Love, a song written in 2012 that is almost certainly about Dianna when she says, “This love has left a permanent mark”

Let’s look at some lyrics before we jump into social media clues.

“When you are young, they assume you know nothing“ -this sounds like the warnings Swiftgron had to endure that Taylor talks about in Wonderland.

“A friend to all is a friend to none Chase two girls, lose the one“ -this sounds like Taylor is lamenting the Swiftgron/Kaylor overlap that occured.  A friend to all is Karlie who said Kim K was a lovely person after the kimye incident and sold Taylor out to Scooter.  Taylor went after Karlie instead of trying to work it out with Dianna as evidenced by Taylor going to the Glee set in early 2014, after she had met Karlie already.  (Check out @swiftgronmasterpost​ for receipts on all of this)

Also “lose the one”, I believe The 1 is about Dianna so that would track.

“But I knew you Playing hide-and-seek and Giving me your weekends, I“ -this makes me think of how DIanna was working full time on Glee when Swiftgron met and wouldn’t have had much time for Taylor except on the weekends.

“I knew you Your heartbeat on the High Line Once in 20 lifetimes, I”- yes the High Line is a place in NYC and is easy to tie back to Karlie, but Swiftgron hung out in NYC a good bit too in April right around when they first got together and December of 2012 as well.  It’s very possible they went up to the High Line and spent time together, just as they fell for one another.  Since Taylor is dragging Karlie so harshly I just can’t believe she’s referencing her in such a sweet song.

“To kiss in cars and downtown bars Was all we needed“ -there’s rumors that Dianna and Taylor would go out to bars in disguise.  I also have pointed out that Taylor references cars in a lot of Dianna songs (in which they’re driving) because you drive in LA whereas in NYC you walk.  I doubt anyone is making out in front of Taylor’s driver so if they’re kissing in cars I say it’s happening in LA.

“I knew you Tried to change the ending Peter losing Wendy, I” -Dianna referred to herself as Peter on her website You, Me, and Charlie

“I knew you Leavin’ like a father Running like water, I“ -Dianna supposedly left Taylor a time or two as they went back and forth in their relationship.  Taylor also uses water imagery heavily to describe Dianna in Clean, This Love, and HYGTG

“But I knew you’d linger like a tattoo kiss” -Dianna has tattoos (Karlie does not)

“The smell of smoke would hang around this long” -Dianna smokes (Karlie does not)

“And you’d be standin’ in my front porch light And I knew you’d come back to me You’d come back to me” -this sounds very much like the plot of the song HYGTG which is almost certainly about Dianna as well.

“And you’d come back” -we have good reason to believe that Dianna and Taylor are now friendly and on good terms since Dianna showed up at SNL and was counted among Taylor’s “inner circle” at the after party.  If they are indeed friends like the evidence suggests, in a way, Dianna did come back to her!

Ok now onto some social media clues.  It should be noted that these are ALL reaches except for the last two.

Since Folklore came out Dianna has been showing up more and more in jeans.  The song says “dancing in your levis” which had me thinking it wasn’t about her because while Dianna loves to dance, she hardly ever wears jeans.  However in the fall of 2020 she has shown up in jeans again and again, even leading her best friend to comment on it in one point:

which seemed to match Taylor’s IG bio with the lyric “you drew stars around my scars” a lyric from Cardigan:

Another fun note is that Cardigan is “Betty’s” song.  Betty is short for the name Elizabeth and Naya used to call Dianna Elizabeth Taylor because she was so “fancy”

Dianna even reminded us of this with a post with a quote from Liz a couple days after she publicly streams cardigan:

The day Folklore came out Dianna’s ex husband Winston posted the lyrics:

now Winston does not seem to like Taylor, although Taylor is a fan of his band and featured his bandmate Marcus Mumford’s vocals on evermore.  I think it’s possible Winston was being shady and trying to spill the secret.  He and Dianna were split up by this point but I think some of the lyrics may have clued him in to know the song was about her and he wanted to point it out in a petty way.

And of course the grand finale…Dianna herself publicly streamed the song on her spotify on October 27th, 2020:

Who better to let us know the song is about her then the muse herself?

So Joe co-wrote it, right. For me, one of the big shifts this era has been him kinda stepping into the light with her. Like he’s no longer this invisible muse you can ignore. He collaborated on both - writing for both, and now even playing piano. The willow love interest looks like him in the reflections at the start. She really hyped up his contributions in the doccie. And some of y’all said “oh that’s so weird” but in relation to Coney Island I legit don’t think it is.

I’ve said before that Joe probably planned to be famous. The shit she has said about how normal he is... her projecting. You don’t take a starring turn in an Ang Lee movie and feature in magazines that call you the next big thing and then suddenly... stop wanting that just because your girlfriend asked you to. Like he took a conscious step back (Sense of an Ending, after Billy Lynn, was a fucking choice). But in that alma mater interview all he could talk about was fucking Billy Lynn. And idk I think eventually it all got tiring. Like being Mr Taylor Swift - this invisible joke “muse” - probably ended up feeling pretty shit.

Having her fans - not just Gaylors - see him as just an extension of her, like even the ones who are obsessed with him “rescuing” her know fuck all ABOUT HIM and idk I don’t think that felt nice.

So I think to me Coney Island makes sense for that background and is probably them dealing with it and working through it - hence writing it together. “What's a lifetime of achievement / If I pushed you to the edge? / But you were too polite to leave me” sounds like it could legit be those two. Her lifetime of achievement pushing him to the edge but he was kinda too nice to do anything about it for a while. Also “But when I walked up to the podium I think that I forgot to say your name” - she has very famously never given him a s/o. With quarantine these are things they probably talked about.

And him writing depro ass exile and apology anthem betty also fits this stuff.

She tweeted that thing about how it was “the cruelest summer” also. So idk. They could’ve had issues this year. It really does make sense.

Final point: for me Delicate was always for Joe/London Muse so that reference also supports it.

i mean first off obviously i don’t know for sure

but given the fact that ashley and claire liked the tweet about karlie accidentally betraying taylor to scooter and then unfollowed karlie like i’m sorry i can’t not come to conclusions based on that.

1989 Is About Dianna Agron - A Compilation of Receipts:

Part 1 - People in The Know.  This tv writer claim 1989 is about Dianna:

Carina MacKenzie wrote for The Originals:

a guy named Michael Trevino was a regular on the vampire diaries but was also on a few episodes of The Originals.  He dated Glee cast member Jenna Ushkowitz.  Not only that but he was at Dianna’s 26th birthday party (I know he’s saying hbd to jenna but it’s because her birthday is actually on the 28th of April, which is the day dianna hosted her big party (where they probably celebrated dianna, jenna, and harry (whose birthday is also on April 28)

anyway as you all probably know (but if you haven’t check out this part of my swiftgron masterpost over @swiftgronmasterpost) Taylor was at dianna’s 26th birthday party and even performed songs for her in the midst of swiftgron’s most active period.  

do we know for sure if Micheal was the person who told Carina that swiftgron was a thing?  no.  but he did date jenna for three years and supposedly was good friends with dianna.  it’s possible he was in the know and tipped carina off when he worked with her.

now onto a few song receipts

I Wish You Would

Taylor claims this is a song about an ex driving past her house after they’ve moved to a house close to her.  She wrote it while she was on the Red Tour and it was recorded in 2013.

People assume it’s about Harry like most of 1989 but there’s just one problem. Harry didn’t move to LA until spring 2014, when taylor had moved to nyc and the track was recorded in 2013 so how could it be about him driving past her house?

On the other hand, Dianna moved in LA during the summer of 2013:

Green Eyes - there is debate over Dianna’s eye color sometimes, some people claim they’re hazel.  Green eyes are mentioned again and again on 1989 and it’s true that Harry does have green eyes but it’s also 100% true that Dianna does as well.  A few receipts on that are as follows.  Her character on glee, Quinn, canonically has green eyes:

@all-my-possessions breaks this down a lot further but there is an idea that based on the timing of the writing of the song taylor was actually inspired by seeing Dianna dressed up as james dean in InStyle magazine in the UK in early 2014 to write style.

the caption is “rebel without a clue” which is a reference to “rebel without a cause” a famous james dean movie.  Dianna seems to be saying this photo was inspired by a picture/styling of james dean such as this:

Dianna was featured like this in the February issue of InStyle UK and we know Taylor was in the UK when that issue came out.

she wrote Style shortly after and it’s thought that the “james dean” bit was inspired by dianna’s styling and the name was inspired by the fact that she was in a magazine literally called “instyle”

Gonna keep it brief here but harry and taylor never hid anywhere.  they did blatant pap walks and even went to time square to kiss at midnight on new years.  it does not get more obvious and public than that.  dianna and taylor on the other hand were pretty private.

from my swiftgron masterpost: Dianna’s favorite book of all time is Alice in Wonderland.  She brought it up in interviews all the time, tweeted about it, auctioned off a signed copy of it for charity, her private Tumblr and instagram account are called whosirmesir which is a reference to it, her private Tumblr is filled with reblogs about Alice, and her public Tumblr was called fell down the rabbit hole.

I have a little joke that for a while dianna didn’t have a personality she just had alice in wonderland.  it is so quintessentially her.
