PSA: Tumblr/Discord “Support Scam” (Almost Got Me)
I want to share this because I almost got my Tumblr account compromised today, and I know a lot of people might fall for the same thing.
Someone messaged me claiming they “reported my account for fraud, because they mistaken me as a scammer who scammed them” They would apologize and will say that my account was at risk of being permanently banned and that I needed to contact “Tumblr support” through Discord / external links to fix it.
- Sent screenshots saying my account was reported
- Claimed “support” already contacted them about me
- Told me to reset my password and change account details
- Sent me to a non-Tumblr domain (“support” site that was NOT tumblr.com)
At first it looked convincing because they used Tumblr branding and made everything sound urgent and official. But I realized something was off when they started pushing me to reset my password through their instructions instead of Tumblr itself.
I stopped, did a research, and found out this is a known phishing scam happening on Tumblr and Discord right now.
Here’s the important part:
- Contact you through Discord
- Use random users as “support agents”
- Ask you to reset your password through external links
- Tell other users your report status
Everything official happens only on:
tumblr.com or emails ending in @tumblr.com
What they were trying to do was get me to:
→ follow fake “support” instructions
I didn’t click anything and I changed my password directly through Tumblr, so my account is safe.
But I just want to warn others: if someone tells you you’re being reported and you need “live support” outside Tumblr—do NOT trust it.
Always go directly to Tumblr yourself.
