The Witch and the moon

Millions of us grew up with this stereotype of a witch riding a bro on the way to the coven.Or the witch deformed arthritic hands covered in warts and a curved nose,eyes sunk in their sockets , always dressed in black with a disheveled look. But if you go farther north ,those witches were described as red haired young of fair complexion beautiful faces,dressed in white tunics with blue or green eyes,tall and well spoken ,the scary part is that they could shape shift into any animal or bird they desired.Wolves ravens ,even bears.Well, the lore speaks of witches coming from different cardinal points and all being able to shapeshift at will often carrying with them their familiars or pets,black cats ,crow ,bats and sometimes goblins. As a shaman i can attest to their powers and their use of black magic ,also being able to stalk a prey using magic to use their capes as cloaking tool. Many are the powers alleged to witches which in olden days were the healers of the village.Today witches still exist ,the church unable to have kill them all,haaa! Even the famous Druids which the church went after savagely burning , poisoning and even drowning them because naturally the clergy feared competition.The same happened when the Spaniards arrived in the so called New World ,they went straight into killing their local medicine men and witches,to establish Catholicism. but their efforts were futile because all of them simply went underground, attacking the priests with curses and also poisoning their food and drinks.This never ending tale of horror and destruction ended but the modern witch still lives on. They still celebrate the equinox and solstice, call on the wind and rain ,meet to celebrate their coven .Many still work on holistic practices making potions ,foraging and selling medicinal herbs, fortune telling and other divination practices. Far from the stereotype we have come to know .By the way the way to fly was by using an ointment made with belladonna that once applied numb their extremities and as they enter into a trance made them hallucinate believing they were flying .Well,that is a more rational approach to flying stone to their wits and drugged with magic mushrooms concoctions .Words by Sergio GuymanProust.
