you don’t need to succeed at all the steps to achieve your goals. i tend to bring myself down whenever i don’t succeed at something. and of course being disappointed is normal. not getting into nationals was painful for all of aoba josaj.

but if you look at the time skip, i don’t see a difference between like ushijima/hinata/atsumu (people who did go to nationals) and oikawa. they’re all professional volleyball players who are living their dream career. looking back it seems insignificant whether oikawa did or did not go to nationals. he is where he wanted. what does matter however is that despite never getting into nationals, he never stoped. he kept practicing (like lingling lol)

this is the kind of perseverance and resilience i want to adopt in my life.

although oikawa is the touchy and flirty and needy one.. when it came to turn his and iwas relationship romantic oikawa had a huge crisis. because of course he loves iwa but you know “hit it till it breaks”? well if youre not planning on breaking it, don’t hit it at all. and so he really needed some extra time to think this through properly. make sure hes gonna be able to pull it through because once he commits there’s no going back. sure he had multiple relationships in the past that he took way less seriously but he could also break up with these people without too much harm. however if something goes wrong with iwa, he’ll loose the most important person in his life.

iwa on the other hand feels like he has already committed to oikawa a long time ago. turning their relationship romantic just felt like the natural next step. so once he realised that his feelings for oikawa went further his plan was to figure out whether oikawa felt the same and if he did they could spend the rest of their lives together. and if not, well then they were still gonna keep in touch and stay friends and eventually they’d always end up together some way or other.

however oikawa needed time and that was fine too. the fact that he was even thinking about it told iwa that oikawa had practically already said yes. he just couldn’t say it immediately, he needed time. iwa knows the process of oikawas decision making. so he’s kinda even happy to see how oikawa pondering over it because it means it’s important to him. iwa just wishes oikawa would overthink it a tiny bit less.

how he’s both the biggest encouragement and support for his team but also the biggest pain in the ass.

i love how he’s canonically one the prettiest most popular boys. but dresses in plaid shorts and a nerdy tee that says oikawa. he can be all cutsey and throws around peace signs but then takes selfies with shoyo sticking his tongue out and looking crazy. i love how he acts like a baby at times but is also one of the strongest and most determined characters.

This is one seriously well written character. and lemme quote tom hiddleston, who said that he thinks that all humans constantly contradict each other. which in my eyes is the most accurate thing. and that’s exactly why this character feels so three dimensional.

I love when people disagree with me and passionately start ranting about why I’m wrong.

E.g. I love it when I say I don’t like a certain food and and they start lecturing me about how I just never had a good version of it because I can’t possibly dislike it. I love arguing about it and have them yelling at me because apparently I’m wrong. And I love how they invite you to eat said food in a place that makes ✨the best *insert said dish*✨. Like hell yeah prove me wrong. Tell me I have a shit taste and that I’m stupid for not linking something. Insult me for having said something stupid you don’t agree with. But then still proceed to listen as to why I have a different opinion and let me have my turn to rant.

I love it when I randomly present an idea and the response is a blunt “absolutely not” or “that’s bullshit”. Honestly this is why we’re friends, I don’t need another person handling me with kid gloves.

contrary to popular believe, i could imagine their interactions to turn out quite calm , once they get over their initial over-enthusiasm and energy. They’d bathe in each others attention. i think no one else would placate their need for affection and attention they way they could.

 theres different sides to humans and oikawa seems quite calm and introverted at times. so does bokuto (although probably mostly when he’s not feeling well)

i think bokkuns straightforwardness and carefree way might put oikawa at ease. and also oikawa could have a calming effect on bo because he would give him all the praise he needs with a sort of sarcastic or teasing hue that flies over bokus head so they both completely enjoy the others company. i could imagine that bokuto would bring out  oikawas mum side, because suddenly theres someone more chaotic and loud than him so because you feel like someone has to take charge and be the responsible one when being in a group, being with someone very chaotic suddenly makes you the mum friend.

i think in a way bokuto would pick up more on oikawas feelings than he does with his team. and because they’re both so chaotic and kinda sensitive and open (I’m talking emo-mode and oikawa crying in front of everyone)  that they’d feel more prone to talk it out or feel free to be soft around each other because its obvious that they’re both soft, so why pretend.

personally I’m more oikawa oriented so i’m going to talk more about his perspective. i think bokuto would have a very refreshing effect on him because he can go mad with bokuto and finally have someone match his energy but on the other hand also having someone pushing you to be slightly more mature because the other person isn’t. 

im not saying oikawa isn’t a responsible person. he is seijohs captain and became a professional volley ball player. a lot of effort went into that. but i think being with iwa who seems more „mature and collected“ in certain areas, automatically allows oikawa to play baby in every day situations. i think that oikawa would always need iwa too, someone to ground him. ironically enough he also needs his squad especially with makki/mattsun because oikawa loves being teased whether he admits it or not. he likes being a clown and the pretty princess atst, but thats another topic. and well bokuto doenst have a single spiteful bone in his body so oikawa wouldn’t get ridiculed by him. So of course Bokuto wouldn’t be the only person he needs, obviously. but i think he would bring out different qualities of oikawa that he usually doesnt display. and at the same time enhance the qualities of oikawa that other people usually try to reduce.

and i love this idea because it’s so like oikawa to do so. because yes, he could’ve gone to shiratorizawa. yes he could’ve gone to nationals if he did. yes their team would’ve been invincible. and who knows maybe he and ushijima would’ve harmonised perfectly. maybe oikawa being one of the best setters could’ve read ushigushi like no one else before. and maybe just maybe they would’ve worked intersocially as well. maybe oikawas loud and cocky way would’ve perfectly complemented ushis calm and collected character.

oikawa said ~fuck~ whatever seems like the easiest and safest way. he said it’s iwaizumi. hajime iwaizumi til the end of the line. and he chose aoba johsaj.

and yes, they lost. didn’t go to nationals. cried their eyes out. but he’ll be damned if he regrets even one second of the time that he decided to spend with his friends and his team. his choice and he’ll stand with it.

and later oikawa decided to leave japan behind and find his own way. and despite everything he stuck with volleyball and he’s fucking fab at it!!
