Got back from Montreal and immediately thrown into an insane work week. Finally have time to share a couple stories from marshaling this past weekend. First one is about Liam Lawson. A driver that is quite maligned but I think is actually sneaky decent. It was a nice little window into the humanity and camaraderie that exists in this tiny little world of racing:

In Friday Practice Liam suffered a catastrophic mechanical failure that turned his Vcarb into a large smoky paperweight at turn 4 (for which they were penalized because the neutral button didn't work). He walked up to corner 3 where I was stationed and eventually stood around with us, probably waiting for scooter to take him back to the paddock. It was just me, Liam and a couple of photogs standing around and he looks at me and says "so do you follow NASCAR at all?" I told him I did a little

He started, unprompted - talking about Kyle Busch, who had just passed away not even 24 hours prior. He was talking about how crazy it is that it happened and how everyone was in shock. That he and a lot of the drivers knew him and that it was on everyone's mind.

The fact *he* brought this up unprompted when at that point his weekend had got off to a terrible start tells me a lot about his character. Kyle was on his mind and I find that very human and relatable.

A funny aside to this story, when he walked by I had thrown a case of monster in the cooler and asked him if he wanted an energy drink - but all I had was Monster if that was okay. He laughed and really did appreciate the joke and made a joke back to me that I wont repeat.
