there  it  is   /   in  the  shadow  of  the  walls   (   in  the  corners  of  the  room   /   does  it  rise   /   that  pitch  black  darkness   ).   you  give  it  a  stare  back   /   looking  in  as  if  there  was  something  there.   something  just  beyond  it   /   if  there  was   ,   what  would  you  see   ?   you  don’t  know   /   you’re  not  sure  if  you  even  want  to  know.

but  he  knows   /   doesn’t  he   ?

though  you’ve  lost  the  fear  in  your  eyes  when  you  see  him  rise  from  his  grave   /   the  uncomfortableness  settles  in  all  the  same   (   &   you  start  to  feel  an  ache  in  your  heart  once  he  makes  his  way  to  you   /   his  presence  is   /   overwhelming   ).   yet  you  do  not  deny  his  presence   /   the  loneliness  that  clings  to  your  heart  yearns   &   you’ve  no  heart  to  tell  it  no.   so  like  always   /   you  endure  it.

his  voice  echoes   &   it  clatters  with  each  syllable   /   garbled  noise  yet  amidst  the  chaos  you  attune  yourself  with  him   (   you  hear  his  query  all  the  same  like  before   ).   this  time  he  seeks  about  compassion   /   yet  what  of  you  to  know  about  that   ?   you  suppose  you’ve  read  those  old  tomes   /   you’ve  practiced  your  lines   ,   but  what  say  your  heart   ?   you  do  not  know  of  care   ,   do  you   ?   /   the  world  had  never  taught  you  care   ,   did  it   ?

❝    care…   ?    ❞   you  echo  back   /   you  wonder  if  the  void  was  listening  just  like  he  was  now   (   if  you  taught  the  void  to  care   /   would  it  finally  look  back  at  you  more  kindly   ?   /   would  the  darkness  seem  less  intimidating   ?   ).   ❝    it’s…   a  rather  funny  thing   ,   isn’t  it   ?   care.   showing  someone  just  an  inkling  of  care   ,   it  in  turns   ,   blossoms  a  whole  garden.   one  kindness  breeds  another   &   another   ,   on   &   on.    ❞   yet  you’re  dodging  the  question   ,   aren’t  you   /   the  man  does  not  want  what  care  is   (   he  wants  to  know  what  it  means  to  you   ).

❝    it’s…   a  dream.    ❞   your  voice  is  quiet   /   a  whisper  more  than  usual.   you  were  not  one  to  think  about  your  dreams   /   the  things  you  want.   this  story  was  never  really  about  you   ,   was  it   ?   /   it  was  about  the  two  heroes  you  were  destined  to  meet    (   you  were  just  there  to  serve  the  lightners   /   to  aid  them  on  their  journey  as  foretold  in  the  prophecy   ).   yet  the  man  stares  at  you   /   patiently.

you  continue.

❝    it’s  a  dream.   for  a  peaceful  tale   ,   for  a  happy  end.   care  comes  in  many  ways  both  gentle   &   passionate.   like  a  joke  to  lift  someone  up   ,   a  hug  when  someone’s  feeling  down   ,   or  a  cake  made  with  love.   all  of  these  things  are  like…   a  dream   ,   a  wish.   a  wish  to  solve  things  peacefully   ,   a  wish  to  treat  every  new  friend  with  love   &   care.    ❞

you  pause   /   taking  a  moment  to  look  away  from  your  visitor.

                                         Okay,   I’ll   bite.   *Chomp*
