Gamer's Union

Nintendo have done it again. The Wii U remote, their latest controller, is going to be a wireless classic controller with a large touch-screen in the middle. It connects to the Wii wirelessly and that Wii streams data to each of your screens. So like a one-screened, no-3D, Dual-Analogue-Sticked 3DS. I think we've seen it all before.

But, if Nintendo can pull it off (it's a bit big, too), this has the potential to be the biggest console of 2011/2012.

I just opened my steam and it says in my games library that I have bought CoD:Black Ops multiplayer. I didn't buy this, though. Is this coming up for anyone else? Is it a free gift?

It's funny how you pick up a really old game from the stone age and it turns out to be really good. That is exactly the case with Off-Road Velociraptor Safari (ORVS). A game where you are a Velociraptor in a safari 4x4, you have to get out your wrecking ball and smash into velociraptors. When they attach to your wrecking ball, you have to drag them to orange circles called "exporters", which lift the raptor into the air and teleport it somewhere. But the thing is, on paper it sounds boring, but when you pick it up and play it you have the ride of your life. Smashing into velociraptors is more fun than it sounds, surprisingly.

Then you get the hang of it. After the first few smashes, you start to build up a thing for it. Then you're just launching your car off cliffs for no reason. Then you desperately trying to herd a live velociraptor into the exporter (Which I've done, by the way. Gives lots of points). It's free on facebook and $3 on the Mac App Store. You better have a good reason not to get this right now.

The recently notch-approved Terraria has taken the world by storm. A PC-only game, I can’t have this on my mac :( The big seller for Terraria is that it is a full-out copy of Minecraft. That was the big thing that put everyone off. From the inventory, to the custom generated maps, it was all the same, except for the NPCs and in-game economy (which are obtainable through mods). And it’s 2D.

Those aside, it is a world-first in one respect: It’s a randomly-generated RPG. Every single RPG ever has had a set map for you to explore. With the release of Minecraft, boasting random maps, this has changed. No longer can you look up where this NPC is and where that stash of gold is, you have to find it yourself. This could be the big game of 2011, but it would always second to Minecraft, because it’s obviously a direct copy.
