Hi, this is a bit important.
I got a message from an account, claiming they accidentally reported me, think I was a different account. That they made an appeal, bit I probably should make one as well, to keep my account from being disabled, and then sent me a discord user that's supposedly Tumblr support, so I can reach out and make my appeal. It looked a bit fishy, so I looked into it and found out it's an organized scam. I don't want any of you to fall for it, like I almost did, so here's how it goes down:
At first, a compromised account sends you a DM, claiming to have accidentally reported you. The account will look legit, because it used to belong to an actual person, before their account got stolen and recruited for the scam. Screenshot to the left is the DM I got, screenshot to the right is a similar DM @kurokrisps got.
The compromised account that supposedly accidentally reported you will send you doctored screenshots they supposedly received from Tumblr support, to sell you the idea that yes, you have been reported. You have been mass reported, in fact, because they told their friends to report you too, so now you're worried your account will get banned. Of course, due to the nature of the report or the amount of reports, Tumblr didn't think to notify you about this, silly them! So it's good that this account is letting you know, so you can contact Tumblr support and make an appeal yourself. (Following screenshot is mine)
And, of course, the person who accidentally reported you will be kind enough to direct you to this mysterious guy that is supposed to be Tumblr support but is contacting you through discord, for some reason, and is also a real person, but is sending you automated responds, for some reason. (Both these screenshots are mine) (Yes, at first I fell for it and gave them my email, fuck off, be nice to me, I was shaking with anxiety thinking my account would get deleted)
Anyways, as you start speaking with that guy, he asks for your username and email. Then, using your email, he request a one time code to get in, or something like that, and then both your email and account are compromised, and then he uses your account to con more people.
Don't worry about me because when I realized it's a scam, I reported both the Tumblr and the Discord account, and I changed password to both the burner email I use for social media and to my account, so I'm not at risk of being hacked. But other people are, if they aren't informed and vigilant of the scammers. So please raise awareness for it to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else, and if the scammers reach out to you, report and block them.
