My grandfather was a professor and he always felt this way. He had colleagues who were very proud of their failing statistics and he always said that if students were failing, the teacher was failing. Your job is to teach them to understand the subject matter.

Also, the way marks are capped in some colleges and universities is fucked. Like even if the whole class achieves 100% on the course work, they can only give like three As for the whole class to keep an elite class of students. How is that education? Especially when people need those marks to move onto masters and PhDs?

It’s about treating grades like a scarce resource or commodity, obtainable only to a select few. It’s about prepping students for the artificial scarcity of capitalism.

did you know that in 1953 eisenhower issued an executive order which banned gay people from being employed in government

and it was specifically to root out lesbians who enjoyed the job security of government work

this era was called the lavender scare and was both a direct result of mccarthyism and the classification of homosexuality as a mental illness during ww2. over 10,000 lesbians and gay men lost their jobs and as a result the daughters of bilitis (the first ever lesbian activist group in the u.s.) formed in order to protect themselves and gay men
