I’ve never bought into that “you just know” notion.  Love is a tricky thing.  Sometimes it feels like an undeniable force that hits between the eyes and doesn’t let up.  Other times, it’s malleable, questionable.  It’s truth hidden in and amongst external obstacles  &  internal circumstances that’ve formed who you are, what you expect in the world,  &  how you can accept love.  Oh to say the least, it’s complicated.   &  if a mind’s abuzz with pressure &  deadlines  &  “what if this  &  that.“  I imagine love’s truth would be a near-impossible thing to feel.  I wonder if, when all’s quiet in your mind, you’ll find your answer.

                         somewhere   in   the   midst   of   a   very   lively   dinner   preparation  ,   a   dear   friend   had   slipped   away   &   of   course  ,   anne   excuses   herself   to   discover   a   parallel   of   herself   at   her   worst  .   when   she   crouches   beside   annette  ,   wipes   away   those   tears   &   inquires   their   source  ,   she   can   only   smile   into   a   heaving   shoulder  .    “   &   why   would   we   be   anything   but   to   a   fellow   kindred   spirit  ?   ”   arms   tighten   around   petite   frame   &   she   can   recall   many   a   time   when   such   a   great  abundance   of   love   &   warmth   had   coaxed   her   own   tears   to   fall  .   “   there   is   no   shame   in   crying   here  ,  dear   annette  ,   i’ve   certainly   shed   enough   to   fill   oceans  .   ”

         annette mimics anne, allowing another chick to climb into her hands, allowing it to perch on her shoulder. (her hair is birds’ nest enough, she would figure.) the sweet chirps in her ear bring a smile across her face. “ n-n-now-w y-you’ll a-a-all b-be o-out-t of ch-ch-chick-k-kens! ” she’s glad that green gables does not have so many larger animals, as she remembers the calf that tried to eat her scarf once. she is wearing her favorite one, after all.

                   the   image   before   her   is   sweeter   than   her   favorite   toffees  ;   anne   strokes   the   chick   with   a   finger   before   placing   it   back   into   its   enclosure  &   retrieves   her   phone  ,   snaps   a   picture   of   the   moment   for   prosperity  .   “   oh  ,   not   to   worry  ,   there’s   plenty   more   where   that   came   from  !   besides  ,   ”   belle’s   saddle   &   reigns   are   hauled   from   the   barn  ,   the   former   placed   on   a   strong   back   with   a   grunt   of   effort  .   “   i’m   positive   you’ll   permit   them   to   visit  !   ”   in   goes   the   bit  .   anne   hoists   herself   up  ,   then   to   offer   a   hand   to   her   friend  .   “   you’ll   have   to   bid   the   little   darlings   farewell   for   now  ,   though   --   adventure   awaits  !   ”
