here's some words for the selkie au... this ended up being 3 different POVs because I was on a roll...
It sort of just comes out, but heâs so fucking stressed so heâll excuse himself this one time.
âIf I asked, would you kill someone for me?âÂ
Silence rings through the apartment as the air behind the man sitting on the couch shimmers for a few seconds until a transparent gold, semi-translucent scorpion tail appears behind the man. It sways back and forth, hypnotic, as pink wells at the tip of the aculeus.Â
For a moment, Colt is distracted by how pretty the tail is, his eyes following its path before he even realizes it.Â
Driverâs tail pauses before disappearing completely. Damn.Â
âColt, just because you donât like himâŚâ
He sighs, expecting that answer. But luckily, he has the truth and that truth is going to work very well in his favor. âItâs not because I donât like him. Itâs because heâs getting too close to Ryland. Heâs the one who had Rylandâs peltââ
The door to Driverâs apartment is slammed shut before he can finish his sentence. He hopes that means good things.
Ryland screeches when the door to his apartment rattles against the wall. He wearily peeks his head out from the kitchen to see Driver standing in the doorway, face blank but hands clenched.
âDriver! Is everything okay? Are youââ
Ryland blinks at the younger man, fingers clenching in the sleeves of his cardigan. The words register and he sighs. âYes, I have it back. What did Colt tell you?â
âHe said someone had your pelt.â
âHeâs overreacting. He didnât have it. IâŚforgot it⌠Thatâs all.â He mumbles, trying to smother the urge to rub the back of his head. He fails.
â...you forgot your pelt? At a party?âÂ
He purses his lips and looks away. âYou're awfully chatty todayâŚâ
âWorried.â Driver says as he gently closes the door and makes his way over to the couch. Ryland follows, hands now in the pockets of his cardigan. As he moves to pass Driver, a gloveless hand gently grabs his elbow. For a moment, he watches as Driverâs nostrils flare, how he takes a deep breath in. âWhy?â
âJust donât tell Colt, Iâll never hear the end of it, okay?â
He sighs and forgoes sitting on the armchair and instead chooses to sit next to Driver, who is now leaning back with his eyes closed. Itâs not a normal habit Driver has, the man usually very attentive of his surroundings even in safe places, but itâs definitely one Colt has when heâs just done a few rounds of stunts and wants to be attentive and engaged but needs to rest his eyes and body. Itâs cute how well matched they are.
âIâm going to sound like a pup here, but there was just⌠It was beautiful, Casey. A private beach, completely untouched. The house the party was at was one of six lined up on the beach but it was like they were empty. There wasnât a single sign of human life on that beach. I justâŚgot lost in the waves, in the sounds. I almost went in for a bit but I got lost on the way trying to find the back door. I think thatâs when I left my pelt behind. But itâs okay! As you can see, I have it back and Tom was really nice about it. He just thinks itâs an old cardigan of mine. He gave it back without issue and you know how⌠Yeah, you know⌠So no, he didnât have or take my pelt, I just left it at his house. Thatâs all. He gave it right back.â
By now, Driver had opened his eyes and kept his gaze on Ryland as he talked. As Ryland finished, Driverâs hand, still without its glove, comes to rest on his neck and heâs pulled forward until their foreheads touch. Ryland laughs.
âYet you never want to go to the beach. You know if you asked, Colt might go. Or at least wear his pelt more so you can smell the ocean all the time.â
Driver just huffs and pulls away, blinking slowly at him. After a moment, he shrugs. Ryland just smiles in return.
âDo you want to stay for dinner? You and Colt?â
âMm. No. We both have an early day tomorrow, so weâre staying at his place.âÂ
âOh! If thatâs the case, wait here. I have something that he should take with him. Just gimme a second.â
And heâs running to the bedroom, trying to remember where he put that old thing.
A few minutes later, Driver is standing in the hallway between his and Rylandâs apartments, looking down at his hand. The item that Ryland had wanted to give Colt, an old necklace of some sort, is in his pocket, well protected despite the short trip. Whatâs in his hand is something different, something else.
Itâs a small braid of threads, no more than an inch and maybe with six threads in total. Three blue, three yellow. Itâs so small, itâs easy to miss if you donât know what you are looking for.Â
And he had found it tucked under the collar of Rylandâs cardigan. Itâs a smart place for it, Driver knows, because itâs close to where his charm is on Rylandâs pelt, and also on Coltâs pelt. A safety precaution, one that one knows about and one that is in the dark.
He stares at the small braid for a moment longer, debating what to do with it. He could soak it in his venom, letting the Hunter know to stay away, but something tells him not to. Something about this braid isnât right.Â
He twists it in the hall light to look at it more, and ah, there it is. The barest hint of gold in the yellow threads.Â
It seems that there is much more to Tom Ryder than meets the eye. He had only planned on dropping Colt off on set tomorrow and hanging out to drive him home, but perhaps he will take up Jodyâs offer.
[unknownnumber] Ryry! Did you make it back home safely?
[ryland] I did :) Thank you for asking!
[Thomas] so listen⌠I just found out Iâm not due to be on set for a few days and well Iâve been here so many times Iâve seen everything so⌠Do you want to come over? Iâm still staying at the beach house.
[ryland] Thank you for the offer, but sadly, I donât do parties.Â
[Thomas] Oh thereâs no party :P You just seemed to really like the beach and itâs kinda a shame you didnât get to see it in person.Â
[Thomas] Thought Iâd show it to you ;)Â
Ryland looks at his phone, taking in the conversation. He knows, he knows, all about Tom Ryder, he really does butâŚ
Itâs been so long⌠An afternoon with someone who will probably hit on him the whole time doesnât seem too bad if he gets to be at such a beautiful beach. He justâŚwonât tell Colt.
[ryland] Sure. Um. What time works for you?
[Thomas] anytime babe ;)))) just tell me what works for you and iâll send a car
