hey if you’re disabled or chronically ill & have a hard time standing i want you to know that it’s ok to sit down when able bodied people wouldn’t or aren’t. not just in the context of using a wheelchair but just like. whenever. pull up a stool in front of the stove when you make mac & cheese. kneel on a chair in front of the sink when you’re washing the dishes. going outside to smoke/wait for a cab/whatever? pop a squat on the sidewalk/curb/stoop. get a shower chair. it’s not weird or shameful to minimize your pain & it’s not worth wasting spoons just because “normal people would do it standing up”

hey if something about your environment or body is bothering you right now & if you’re able to, please take a moment to adjust that thing. turn off the lights if theyre hurting your eyes, grab a pair of socks if you’re cold, move into a better position if you’re in an uncomfortable one.
it’s easy to get stuck in a “this isn’t good but I’ll survive” mindset, especially with executive dysfunction, but you deserve to feel more okay in the spaces & body you’re in.

My therapist just told me my problem is that I need to write more fanfiction.
This sounds fake but the logic behind it is actually really interesting? She said obsession with a new fandom triggers quick dopamine release when we consume all this related content--it's easy and addictive.
What we're NOT getting is that 'slow dopamine' that's more sustainable and engaging. That's the kind we get from DOING things that take effort but are ultimately rewarding.
So like, she suggested that writing fic and making fanart are ways to balance the quick dopamine of watching a show/reading fic with the slow dopamine of working at something that takes effort.
Moral of the story is you should engage in the process of creation around your favorite things. You'll feel better for it.

shaking myself (very gently) . being in pain takes a lot of energy!!!!!! being in pain is exhausting!!!!!!! you are not lazy or weak because you need to spend so much time resting, this is your body coping with how much pain you’re in literally 24/7!!!!!!!!!
addition: feeling big emotions is exhausting & takes a lot of energy!!!!!!!! needing to rest after having big feelings isn’t a sign of being weak or lazy either!!!!!!!! your body needs time to rest & recover even when it isn’t for a ‘normal’ reason

The walk of shame of putting my wheelchair in my car after using it
just a kind reminder to please be kind to the people you know with gastrointestinal disorders/conditions! they're embarassing, often very painful - sometimes debilitating - and very hard to talk about without oversharing a lot more than most are comfortable with.
if someone you know:
- spends a lot/long time in the restroom
- has a colostomy bag
- requires diapers or similar implements
- experiences a lot of gas and/or bloating
- requires tube feeding or other alternative methods of nutrition
- has food restrictions (e.g. cannot handle a lot of spices, certain proteins, etc.)
- eats a lot, or only a little
or other similar factors of their life...
please be patient and understanding, it's hard having guts that really like disagreeing with you!
