This is one of those crack ideas you get late at night. I’m trying to write it out coherently. So what if Aunt Francis was the Kuroverse version of the Slayer or Chosen One/Magical Girl/etc? The Phantomhive lineage exists to root out evil. With evil. “Setting a snake to catch a snake” as the saying goes. That explains the offspring that hold the title for head of the family, but other siblings? What if one female out of the lineage has to be the Chosen one to fight evil through the might of her swords and fist? It’d explain relatively weak Vincent snd overpowered Francis, as well as Elizabeth the swords genius.

So Francis knows her nephew got the dirty job, but she also senses something about Sebastian and feels a need to bully him mercilessly every time she sees him.

This maybe explains Francis’ hostility towards Sebastian? She finds his face objectionable. Plus Sebastian seems to actually feel fear of her.

Again, using the excuse that Sebastian looks diissipated. But looking at the other house masters…

Ooo this is a good catch ^^ Lungs by itself is 肺 but she chose to say 肺腑 and "lungs and internal organs" is the literal kanji, but it has deeper meaning usually of your innermost being, or your core, etc. Here are examples: 肺腑を衝く - to be deeply moved (emotionally), to be struck to your core (emotionally) 肺腑からの叫び - a cry from the depth of one's heart (not literally using the kanji for heart, using 肺腑, but in english it would be localized maybe as "heart" in this case, a symbolic representation of "deep inside of you.") Basically it is maybe not talking about literal smoke literally going into literal lungs, but corruption that is settling into the person's core self, more psychological than physical. It is very poetic usage here ♡ Something similar to "filling one's innermost being with noxious/poisonous/corrupting vapor that is left to permeate/smolder/fill with smoke, a uniquely human form of self destruction." I tried to look up some example sentences too and these came up :> ・"Indulging in that uniquely human form of self-destruction, letting miasma smolder deep within one's soul…" ・"Amusing oneself with the uniquely human habit of self-harm that allows poisonous miasma to seep into the depths of one's being…" ・"Absorbed in humanity's peculiar pastime of self-destruction where toxic miasma linger within their innermost selves…"
