“You wouldn’t actually ask her. You’re a chicken.” I rolled my eyes at my friend that stood to my side, imitating the bird.
The group laughed at his jokes, but my attention lingered on the statement.. Soon that attention turned to the giantess at the separate karaoke, singing her heart out with a voice of an angel.
“You know what.. I dare you to go buy her a drink, at the very least.” Another member of the group said, slurred. He was definitely drunk.
Peer pressure was never something I really fell into often, but maybe it was the slight nudge of courage I needed, so I took it and ran with it.
“You know what. Sure.” I stated, turning back to my friends with a smirk. I knew she would decline the date idea.. But maybe not so much a drink. I hoped.
Waiting for her to end her solo took a moment or two, letting the anticipation rise in my chest. With a bit of a head start, I rushed to the bar and waited for her at the counter where I had seen her sat before.
She wasn’t going to say yes to a human. It was highly unlikely, especially someone as beautiful as her.
I watched near in awe as she approached, immediately feeling like that once glimmer of courage I had now fleeting. She gave me a smile, sitting down.
“What brings you over here?” She asked, leaning down to see me better. Her cinnamon perfume washed over me as she did so.
“I was wondering if I could buy a drink for such a gorgeous woman.” As if I was trained to speak, the words left me smoothly even though my core shook with rocketing anxiety.
She chuckled, “How could I say no?”
I didn’t really hear her order, but I gestured to the bar tender to put it on my tab to which he just nodded.
“Is that all you wanted to ask, hun?”
When I looked back to her, she had leaned all the way forward, her minty breath encapsulating me. My legs felt weak, my heart racing, but I hoped and prayed she couldn’t see through me. I swallowed my fear and smiled.
“You free this weekend?” I asked, nearly forgetting the proper way to ask someone out. I felt like I was shaking like a leaf.
She gave me a soft smile, “I am.”
