Today I was quite proud of myself. I managed to make a small batch of macarons on my own (albeit with a tiny bit of help from Mum). My first attempt at making macarons! I went with the recipe used in last weeks sweet week challenge on Masterchef Australia. The winning team was the red team and they made an art installation representing a Japanese zen garden. In it were these amazing looking macarons that were made to look like rocks in this garden. The ganache used to sandwich the macarons together was a matcha green tea ganache. Being that it was my first time making macarons, I decided not to worry about adding colour - well more like was forced to not worry about colour because I didn't have any black gel food colouring. To be honest, the colour didn't matter to me; as long as I got the right ingredients and had the right consistency, I was happy. Now I'm not a pro chef, nor am I the best cook in the house (that title belongs to my mum). I'm just your average person who sometimes feels like baking and being creative in the kitchen. So, as I'm mixing one thing and boiling another, I realise how difficult this was for me to do on my own. And then I start thinking to myself, how do the contestants on Masterchef do this with a time limit?! I'm stressing out on the consistency of my ganache only and the contestants on the show stress out about more than one element for their dishes not to mention they have to multitask at a very high speed! Trying to make these macarons took me majority of my afternoon to complete but once they were made, even though they're not perfect, I was quite pleased at how they turned out ๐ I'm going to continue to make and bake things so I can practice my skills about once a week.
