It’s cold, Victor notes. Particularly cold for a December night.

He sits huddled by the sidewalk, palms pressed closely together, soft breath blowing gently against his knuckles to keep himself warm. The wind whispers against his skin, biting insistently, but he shrugs it off and puffs out his cheeks; lets his toes scrape a few leaves into a pile before closing his eyes and blowing it all away.
