There’s a famous line from 1960s cinema that goes ‘No, I only sleep with girls I’m in love with.’ It’s from the film Le Petit Soldat directed by Jean-Luc Godard. It is one of the best French New Wave (La Nouvelle Vague) films that I’ve ever seen and that line is one that resonates with me on different levels. I know that everyone has their different take on love and life, but I find that there isn’t enough passion or romance in relationships nowadays. I feel too many people are just fucking (which can be great so don’t get me wrong) but what happened to all the romance? You know, the holding hands, the cuddling, the dressing up, going to a candle lit dinner and all that good stuff. I know finding that certain someone can be a difficult task but I think even the occasional romantic gesture can go a long way. You don’t have to be in love per se but at least be passionate or even a little crazy about the person. I want to get excited at the thought of them. I want my stomach to turn when we talk. I want my heart to skip a beat when I see her smile. It may be difficult to find, but I want to sleep with someone I’m in love with.

Me, trying to open up to my friends: I feel sad
Them: aw :(
Me: okay I'm never doing that again
I’m so fucking sick of saying I’m sorry when I’m the one collapsed on the ground.

When you finally work up the nerve to inhale powder up your nose or stick a needle through your arm, that’s when you know you’ve gone too far. You’ve taken the road you promised yourself you’d never go down. That’s okay. Just make sure to eventually promise yourself you’ll find your way back. You’ll thank yourself later. Drugs will never feel better than finally learning to respect yourself enough to move on and keep fighting.

The useless days will add up to something. The shitty waitressing jobs. The hours writing in your journal. The long meandering walks. The hours reading poetry and story collections and novels and dead people’s diaries and wondering about sex and God and whether you should shave under your arms or not. These things are your becoming.

Drugs are the fucking devil but the coolest friend ever. A dangerous psycho bitch, but a therapist of sorts. It’s both terrible and great. Until you find yourself gasping for breathe because you’ve fucked with it for so long. I saw my whole life at that point, I saw who I used to be and came back to this shell of a human. Drugs killed a lot of me, but it helped me find myself as well. I see things a little clearer, I look deeper into people because I wish someone had just saw me instead of just seeing a junkie.
