I honestly hated my job at a florist so much just because I became the scapegoat for anything that ever went wrong, but I do miss getting an order of flowers in and processing and cleaning them. It was so ✨ zen. ✨ Then I became The Delivery Person, which I was not told I would be doing when I took the job and it was super annoying. I was so stressed from that job that it literally caused digestive issues for like eight months. Like straight diarrhea every day, even legit shit my pants at work once and couldn’t think of a way to leave without admitting that I shit my pants, so I wrapped gifts for customers and rang people up while I completely lost control of my bowels, then two days later my boss was like “What happened to all of our toilet paper?” and I was like “idk 😬.” I gave my notice because I was starting school and had a week left when I just like walked off the job. I had been sorting catalogs and apparently the pile I made to go in the trash was “too messy,” and my boss said that I might need a reference from her someday and “It’s not gonna be good,” so I went on my lunch break and just didn’t go back after discussing it on the phone with my husband. I didn’t really see the point of staying for the rest of the week if I wasn’t even gonna get a good reference. I almost feel like she was bluffing but it was more the disrespect of making me a pack mule for her deliveries, keeping me there after hours, sometimes even til one in the morning and then saying that shit to me. I never complained about it, I just did it. I honestly got so tired of being blamed for shit that other people did. Like how do you even speak up about the fact that someone else left a plant outside overnight, that someone else broke the sign, that someone else has been overwatering the plants, that it was *everyone’s* responsibility to make sure a picture was taken of an arrangement before it went out? I wouldn’t go back to that job for any amount of money. Like living in this capitalistic hell world even turns what should have been a chill job at a florist into a nightmare. People pay you minimum wage and expect you to take on responsibilities that are way above your pay grade.
Because I make $30+ an hour does it mean that I deserve to be treated as such. I’m starting to wonder.
