You know what’s so great about this picture? You can’t see my chest.

As a pre transitioned transman I experience a lot of dysphoria with my chest area. Some days it’s very difficult and it’s all I think about… while some days it’s just a passing thought.

Regardless, I get out there assert myself as the man I am chest or not. Buttttt sometimes pictures catch me off guard like this one and give me hope that I will be able to have my body align with my mind.

2017 started out as the worst year of my life, and yet, by the end it became the best of them. Transitioning has been hard at times but so worth it. I’m finally starting to like my reflection (my voice~) and it’s an indescribably amazing feeling.

You have to be 18 or older to do informed consent, which is how Planned Parenthood tends to prescribe HRT.

You could try scheduling an appointment with a local Planned Parenthood to ask them, but if you’re under 18 they probably won’t do it (I wasn’t able to start T until 18 with the Planned Parenthood near me), and if they did allow under eighteens you’d probably have to have a letter, and definitely have to have permission from your parents/legal guardian.

It’s scary. But if it’s scary for you just imagine how it is for the person saying it.

Coming out is one of the most terrifying things to do. It can take months to years of struggle. From internalized phobias against themselves, to fear of impending rejection and reactions. Many people will just continue to pretend, as though nothing at all is going on, while suffering silently on the inside.

If some one has come out to you it means that they trust you, that they are being terribly vunerable before you.

You may not be happy. You may be scared. You may be uncomfortable.

Let me tell you one little thing.

Likely, this person cares about you very much, and wants you in their life. You’re entitled to, and allowed to, feel whatever way you want to feel, but don’t let that overshadow the person that has opened themselves up to you.

Don’t belittle your own feelings, but certaintly don’t belittle theirs.

You can’t change who they are. You never could.

You can bear witness to the person they will become.

You can be a part of their life.

You can care about them and be there for them no matter whether you agree with what they’re doing or not.

In the end, everyone is different but they are still people. They are still the person that you knew before they came out to you. The only difference is that now you know, and are privy to, a more authentic and more real version of them than you were before.

So, you may be scared.

That’s okay.

Just don’t forget that we’re people too,

That coming out is a leap of faith,

Which is honestly a place you would expect fatalistic humor to be common and used as a coping method. You’re one “oops” away from death on the flight deck, one inch to the left and you don’t have a head anymore because the jet that just landed now owns it as a wing-tip decoration. So you joke about it because lowkey you’re fucking terrified it’ll happen, but you’re also desensitized to the danger itself because you face it every single day for 12 hours at a time.

One of my favorite movies is Singing In The Rain which came in out 1952, right on the tailcoat of two world wars and a looming cold one, and for all it’s a cheery happy musical, it’s got this really bleak witty humor too, things like “call me a cab!” “okay, you’re a cab!” or the scene where Don says he’ll be homeless by the next day and Cosmo cheerfully tells him not to be ridiculous…the bank bailiffs don’t open till Monday.

And then quite probably one of my favorite opening lines, where two young girls are watching Lina on screen and one says  “She’s so refined. I think I’ll kill myself.”

Which really resonates with a lot of the things we say now when talking about people we find personally attractive, meaning not only is fatalism not a new trend, but those two girls at the starting sequence of Singing In The Rain are totally there for Lina, not Don.

Im sick of my transgender brother and sisters getting killed. Im sick of being seen as a rapist of an act of crime that someone else said “trannies do.” Im sick and tired of other people deciding if i fucking get rights or not.

Im sick and tired of wanting to piss in the guys restroom but out of genuine fear of getting beat up, i dont go and instead, i get a urinary tract infection.

Im tired of my genetalia being other peoples business. Im tired of seeing people on the news not know what theyre talking about when it comes to being transgender and they laugh it off awkwardly so their news channel can get more views.

Im tired of knowing that “being okay with trans people” is progressive. We are human beings, where are you progressing? You just admitted youre okay with people, do you need a star? Im sick and tired of people looking at me and knowing me only as a tranny, when im so much more than that.

Im sick and tired of knowing that there are people who arent allowed to get married in different countries, just for loving someone. Im sick and fucking tired of my gender and sexuality “being against whats normal and what god created you as.” If youre gonna say that my existance is a sin, then go check the last time you cut your hair, or the last time you ate some shrimp, or the last time you wore clothes of different fabrics, or the last time you got a fucking divorce.

Im sick and tired of all these false accusations and people telling me ill never be a real boy. So fucking what?! My life isnt your business unless i told you its okay to put in your opinion, and you havent.

Im sick and tired of me feeling like i shouldnt even live anymore because of the dysphoria i go through and the pain i see other fellow transguys and transgirls go through.

For the first time, The Associated Press now permits journalists to use “they” as a singular pronoun. The AP announced the style change Friday at the American Copy Editors Society conference in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The change follows years of questions among copy editors, reporters and editors about the use of language specifically about people who are non-binary and don’t use gendered pronouns.
