I fall in love with people very easily because I see their potential as both an individual and a partner, but I ’ve learned not to fall in love with potential while ignoring the reality of who someone is in the present moment. Not only does this set me up for disappointment, but it doesn’t honor who someone is in the moment when I try to make them be the person I think they should or can be or am angry that they aren’t where I think they should be. When you allow people to show you who they are by how they treat you, you are respecting them and also allowing yourself a more clear perspective of what any possible potential could truly look like in terms of a partnership.
