First things first, she's not going to look like an angel anymore. It feels very 'the first character you make in DnD is an elf and they're graceful and nmnmnm'. Having her concept be that she's a human who dies and is resurrected was a great opportunity to make them a ghost who possesses a robot like MTT or MMM.

Inspirations:

Instead of Echo being a sexy anime robot like MTT, I wanted to take inspiration from some of my interests both then and now.

MTT (obviously) and some au variations like US! Napstabot

Prophet and Prototype from One Shot. While I don't think I've ever mentioned how much I liked this game to anyone in 2016, but I LOVED this game. Honestly, it still holds up and the soundtrack is great to write essays to. The original Echo was actually partially inspired by Alula from that game, and I wanted to bring some of that love back for the redesign.

That one Dj from Deltarune Ch 2 was also an inspiration. Combined with Prophet and Prototype, they really helped me draw and emote the digital camera inspired face.

I wanted to challenge myself and show my growth as an artist by emoting something without most of a face. I also really like photography and wanted to bring some of that in.

Pieces I wanted to keep from original Echo's design:

The one eye

The use of wings- this isn't direct, but I wanted to use some moth shape language in their head with the antennae and hair as a small call back to the angel theme of the original

The name- She's an Echo of the human she used to be

Echo flowers- They like stories, videos, music, etc. While I didn't keep the single echo flower in the hair, I wanted to include this element in the ghost design

The almost monochromatic color scheme- While tinted by the mirror, 2016 has a very blue color scheme. I decided to throw the rich aesthetic blues out the window and go with a neon green color palette. She's passionate and can be a little annoying at times but it's never malicious. They lose at hide and seek every time.

Things that I wanted to include but don't have a clean category for:

The segments of their chest look like autopsy scars

The combination of one eye and potentially four arms is just so fitting. ADHD nah not me who's that never heard of it

Why I chose green: I would either be a kindness or patience soul and green has just kind of become 'my color' as the years have gone by for haha name pun reasons so they get to look like the outside of a watermelon

I imagine them as pretty short like somewhere in the Frisk range maybe a little shorter. It just makes the big hair and hovering more fun, like maybe she uses them to be taller when getting serious or to hover over puddles.

Before going in, I knew I wanted to make the characters that get confused for each other in their respective games (Frisk and Chara, Clover and the blue souled human) look like each other to some extent. I also wanted Chara and Clove to be a little reminiscent of each other since they both have a shared relationship in Flowey.

Similarities:

Frisk and Chara have a similar silhouette, red in their color palettes, and the same shade of brown for their hair.

Chara and Clover both yellow/gold in their color pallet as well as the same 2 shades of brown

Clover and the blue souled human have the same hair color and blue in their color palettes. If the blue souled human were to let their hair down, it would be about the same length as Clover's

Individual Designs:

Frisk: The only thing I really changed about Frisk's design was their color palette. I wanted there to be more red to bring in their soul color. I also wanted their hair to resemble the Delta Rune's wings.

Chara: By far, Chara's changed the most. I wanted them to look more like a member of the royal family, so I switched the sweater for a tunic and the undershirt they're sometimes depicted with a white undershirt. Their locket is replaced with the red bow/ brooch thing because it fit the fantasy aesthetic more. Like Frisk, their hair resembles the Delta Rune, although more strongly.

Clover: Almost nothing changed about Clover. I rolled up their sleeves and switched out the brown button up for a white and blue stripped out in order to give them some stripes. Because the pattern was so busy up top, I gave them a blank yellow bandana and switched the polka dots to a patch in their pants.

The Blue Souled Human: The biggest things I wanted to do with this design was 1. Keep the silhouette they had in Undertale Yellow and 2. Give them a reason for being in a tutu and ballet shoes. It's winter up top and they're a sugar plum fairy in The Nutcracker. Because of this, I added some purple and white to this design and gave them a sweater that is their soul color.

Kris: I wanted Kris to look kind of miserable to juxtapose with their Dark World self. Their wing like hair (which originally looks a lot more like Frisk's) is drooping and dark and their color palette is monochromatic except for the jacket, which as Asriel's.

The hypothetical first episode would start with her sailing towards the island at sunrise. She would be typing a future post for her cryptozoology blog on her phone before looking up and seeing Los Reyes for the first time. We would get to see Los Reyes from April's perspective, who has never been and finds the island city beautiful and exciting!

She would arrive at Arcadia Neighborhood Residences (or just Arcadia) bright and early a whole week before school starts. While she'd be the first person in her apartment, she would meet one of her neighbors, Keno. He's a film major in her year moving an almost absurd amount of kitchen appliances, filming equipment, and his whole tech set up on top of living stuff into the downstairs apartment by himself. She helps him out and they get to talking. Apparently, Keno's roommate did move in the day before but is out today.

Afterwards, April would do routine things: unpack, go grocery shopping, and wander around campus, finding important locals both for her as a student living there and as a character in this hypothetical show.

Around sunset, she heads of in search of her uncle's old lab. She starts peeking in windows, not seeing much due to how dark it is getting. While in the shadows, she sees a figure on one of the rooftops, barely lit by the setting sun and definitely not human. She tries to catch a video on her phone but its blurry at best. April tries to follow but loses it quickly.

She would head back to her apartment and pull up her blog on her laptop before pausing, opening up a new tab, and instead pulling up Google Docs. She starts to document her observation and adds the video she took to the folder now titled 'The Los Reyes Night Runner'.

At the end of the episode, she would video call her older sister Robyn back in NYC. After talking about her first day, April tells her sister that she thinks she saw something not human, and Robyn doesn't believe her, asking her if she slept at all on the plane. She replies that she didn't but has video evidence and tries to send the video to her but can't. She tries to share the folder and also can't.
