Freyja doesn't know where she came from and honestly, she has no interest in learning. She'd always known she was adopted, as her adoptive parents never hid that from her. They did, however, hid a much detrimental secret. One that changed the course of her life before she even became an adult.
Normal was never something Freyja felt. Not when she attended school and not even when she was home with her parents. At first, she assumed it was because she was adopted. Or maybe, it was because they were wealthy. Maybe she simply didn't feel a belonging due to that. But when Freyja first started puberty, she realized why.
The first accident was when Freyja witnessed someone bully one of her friends when she was thirteen. It was as if the earth called to her and with the spike of her anger, it responded to her emotions. She had no control over the chasm that broke through the earth in between the bully and her friend. No control over the ground shaking underneath her feet. The earthquake lasted for two five full minutes and it would have lasted longer, had Freyja not passed out from exhaustion.
It didn't take long after moving towns for the next incident to take place. It happened, again. Freyja was on a hike with her family when she tripped over a tree root and began falling over the edge of a cliff. The earth responded to her panic and she managed to create a platform that jutted out to catch her. She earned bruises from the fall, but that was it.
Over the next couple of years, she did her best to control her emotions and the situations she put herself in. It caused her to become an introvert and for the most part, she isolated herself. Occasionally, she would cause small tremors in the earth but it was nothing that her parents felt was too concerning.
Then, she met Matthias.
As an introverted child and teen, Freyja never felt seen as much as she had when she was around Matthias. She felt calm -- the magic that tended to buzz underneath her skin seemed to dissipate when he was around. She was happy when she was with him. Freyja fell so deeply in love with him that she was ready to tell him her secret. She wanted to confide in him; to let him see the real her.
And she had planned to, one night. They agreed to meet at their favorite spot in the woods but she never made it. A couple of people had snuck up on her and grabbed her and before she could try to fight back, she was knocked out.
Freyja woke up in Matthiasâ families home. At first, she didn't realize that's where she was, as she had never been to that part of his home. Her adoptive parents had once warned her about people that didn't like her kind. But Freyja would have never guessed Matthiasâ family was one of them.
When they brought out the weapons, Freyja begged for mercy. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she knelt in front of them, pleading with them to let her go. She insisted that she was still the same girl that they knew before. That she'd never harm them or Matthias. That she was human, too. But they didn't listen. In fact, her words seemed to make things worse.
At the raise of the first weapon, Freyja latched onto the earth. She tugged at her magic, causing the ground to shutter and shift. It took seconds for the foundation of the house to buckle -- for cracks to run up the walls and for it to groan in response to her magic. A gunshot rang in her ear as she yanked at the earth. It responded tenfold. However, it wasn't fast enough to prevent the bullet from hitting her just below the right clavicle. Earth shot up from the ground, completely encasing her, while the house crumbled and fell.
Luckily, Matthias was not home during the encounter. But knowing the kind of family he grew up in, Freyja decided to flee to scene before he made it back. Her and her parents moved again and thankfully because of their wealth, it wasn't a big deal. They settled down near one of their close friends and Freyja did her best to keep a low profile.
HEADCANONS
Freyja can, often, appear as meek and submissive. She isn't, but tends to use that to her advantage.
She doesn't want people to know what kind of magic she has, or that she has any at all. She'd much prefer to live a normal life, even if that means not fully learning how to control her magic.
Freyja tends to stay away from caffeine. It can often cause her to feel more anxious than what she is, which she's learned can lead to her magic becoming harder to control.
She didn't learn that covens actually existed until recently. She's curious about them but is unsure of how to find them, who to reach out to, etc.
Freyja never received treatment from the gunshot wound and the bullet is still lodged in her shoulder, somewhere. This causes her muscles around it to feel achy most of the time.
WANTED CONNECTIONS
WE ARE THE SAME ; A witch who has taken Freyja under their wing. They know that she is a bit shy and hasn't specifically stated that they are a witch, but they can feel the magic pulsating from her. They have decided to stick around her; to be there for her if needed. This could be a mentor/mentee connection, a friend connection, potential coven, etc.
HELLO, LITTLE BIRD ; A hunter who has a hatred for witches, or likes to toy with them. This person has kept an eye on Freyja, "befreinded" her. Is intrigued by her and her seemingly human nature, as she pretends to be a regular human. They have plans to rid her from the world... just not yet.
I KNOW YOU ; This is a best friend connection. This person has managed to get through Freyja's facade and knows that she isn't just an ordinary human. They care about her and genuinely want what's best for her.
