Beginner Broom Closet Witch

Say a small prayer or do a short meditation before you get out of bed in the morning.

Write down dreams or visions you had.

Stir your first cup of coffee or tea counterclockwise to banish negativity and bad luck or clockwise to bring positive energy.

Draw daily tarot or oracle cards (you can also use a pendulum) for guidance.

Cleansing yourself and home using sound or smoke.

Ancestor or spirit offerings

Pick out your clothes, shoes, jewelry... ect with intention.

Write a sigil or petition paper and burn it.

Take a ritual shower. You can spice it up with candles, herbs, and crystals, or you can simply step under the water and imagine all the negativity and bad energy washing off you. You can also recite a chant.

Every time you look into the mirror, say an affirmation

Take a walk outside and ground yourself to Mother Earth.

Dance!! Dancing is an excellent way to rise the energy, and it helps with opening the sacral and solar plexus chakra and getting in touch with the inner child.

Spend time outside to bask in the sunlight, as a devotional gesture to Freyr and/or Sól

If the day is cloudy, find a moment to go connect with the earth, for example, by walking barefoot in the grass!

Make a simple offering to the Vanir, Lords and Ladies of the fertile season!

Short prayer, or ritual to ask the Gods for the next half of the year to be prosperous

Dedicate a song, or dance to Yngvi-Freyr

Take a cleansing herbal bath in honor of Freyja

Make a list of the new blessings this year has brought so far!

Have a divination session in honor of Frigg, to know how the rest of the year will go

Go and pick/buy a flower to display in your home

Play some lively summer music and invite a deity to come and join you as you enjoy it!

Light a bonfire, or candle, to represent the sun’s light

Bake, or cook a little something to make use of the earth’s gifts

Pour a libation to Thórr to thank him for his gift of fertility

Do your best to adopt a peaceful, harmonious state of mind, for the day!

1. Truth: Be real. Be true to yourself and allow others follow their own truth.

2. Humor: Learn to find the humor in things, especially yourself.

3. Humility: If you need to tie your balls to a goat to accomplish your goals, suck it up buttercup.

4. Cunning: Try to think outside the box. Don't make a mess so big that you can't figure your way out of it.

5. Transformation: Don't be afraid of change, because that's how we grow. Don't be afraid of self-examination and listen to constructive criticism.

6. Creativity: Create awesome stuff. Try new things out. If you don't like it, blow it up and try again.

7. Accountability: You are the only one in charge of your own destiny, your own life, and your own actions.

8. Empathy: Try to see things from more than one perspective. Shape-shift into someone else's shoes before you pass judgement.

Magical Correspondences of Pickles/Pickle Juice

Okay, if you have watched Lilo and Stitch, you remember Lilo making spoon figures of her friends and sticking them in a pickle jar and shaking it up. That isnt far off from using pickle juice in a baneful way. Pickles can be great hexing ingredients because, well, they're sour, and they can sour the life of your target. This works especially well if they are allergic to cucumbers, pickles, or vinegar (I will always suggest using what your victim/target is allergic to in a hex or curse, it works so well you wouldn't believe).

Pickles aren't just for hexing. They can also be used in health spells because pickle juice replenishes electrolytes or as a spell ingredient for all you chronically dehydrated bitches.

If you make pickles yourself, I wouldn't suggest putting ingredients in the jar with baneful intentions so you can use it as a baneful ingredient later - you're going to eat the pickles, don't accidentally hex yourself. But if you are aware of what you put in the jar and how you made it, you can "reactivate" the ingredients to take advantage of their baneful properties in spells.

Ingredients commonly used with baneful magic and their correspondences.

Lemons- causing pain (think lemon juice on a cut), souring a relationship, or any good luck the target has been receiving lately.

Targets name on a piece of paper (fold it away from you!)

Rusty Nails- can be stabbed into lemons, or simply added to sour jars/hex jars. Pins the hex/curse to the target.

Sigils for pain, discomfort, sickness, loneliness

Vinegar- souring, dissolves relationships

Hot peppers- anger (also have you ever eaten one of those bad boys, oooof)

Garlic- disgust/repulsion.

Onion- disconnects relationships

Poppyseed- intoxication and confusing

Alum- stops communication/speech.

Small pickles- male impotency

Beet pickles- female hormonal problems

Salt- pain, (also think of the saying rubbing salt in the wound)

Thick mud- darkness, suffocation, feeling trapped.

Mold- can cause sicknesses.

Feces/urine- nasties their life

Black candle wax or strings- binds the curse to the target

There are tons more things you can add to a hex jar, basically, anything nasty, things that cause pain, discomfort, or bad luck, can be added to a hex jar.

Place the jar and items somewhere dark and cold, be sure to shake every so often.

There's a lot of discourse around baneful magic, hexing, chaos magic, jinxing and curses.

It's not that I want to actively encourage those practices, but all witches should know what items are used for in spells, especially if they're using advanced magic. Here's a short list of items I see used in hexes and such (no herbs!)

As always, please do your research on all ingredients in a spell in order to source them ethically.

Poppets ~ This is an item used to signify a person in a spell. You can make them out of just about anything, but I most commonly see people stitching their own dolls or using paper cut in the shape of a person.

Taglocks ~ I feel like people get Taglocks and Poppets confused. Taglocks are actually items, sometimes personal, that create a link to a certain person in a spell. This can be as simple as a photo of them, an item they left behind, or even something from their body, like hair or nails.

Graveyard Dirt ~ This is dirt obtained from, you guessed it, graves and cemeteries. Inserting my own opinion here, it's difficult to obtain Graveyard Dirt from the source ethically. In fact, prancing into a graveyard with a shovel can probably get you in a lot of trouble. Some alternatives here can be taking sticks or rocks from a gravesite (NOT anything on someone's grave) or even taking the soil from beneath a dead plant. Always leave an offering for the spirits.

Iron ~ Typically you won't see straight-up Iron listed as a spell item, but you may see rusty nails and other sharp, rusted items. Iron is used to attract and repel, so it can be used to attract negative energy to someone while repelling it from you.

Broken Glass ~ If you're able to safely collect glass after breaking an object, see if you can save it! Broken glass is great for protection in spells. A good example: if you cast a binding spell on someone, it can help prevent them from retaliating.

By no means is this the only use for these objects. In fact, many items used in baneful magic have uses in protection spells as well. Always do your research, especially to ensure you are not impeding on a closed practice of another culture, before attempting to cast ANY spells.

Ever know  so vile you cannot wish more ill will upon them than you already do? Well, this is the one stop, meanest, nastiest, curse I could come up with. Here’s what you are going to need. 

please remember to curse responsibly, this is a VERY powerful curse and really should only be used in a dire situation and for the worst of the worst people. Remember, if someone or yourself is in a terrible situation, please rely on the mundane before consulting magic. 

A medium or large sized jar 

Black thread or twine

A taglock for your target(full name, birthday, picture, the more specific the better)

How to: 

Write your taglock and sigils on a piece of paper along with your intentions, what do you want to happen to this person, what are you angry about, how do you want this curse to affect them.

Add your ingredients to the jar, I recommend doing the vinegar last for a lack of mess. Speak your intentions over the jar, ask your deities for help if you so desire

Seal the lid of the jar tightly, take your string, knot it nine times and each time you knot it, speak your intentions and channel your anger and pain. Then knot the string around your jar and tie tightly 

Take your candles and melt the wax on the top and seam of the jar, make sure you do it especially around the lid to prevent leaks and also that negative energy from escaping, do as much wax as you like 

Since my altar/offering idea list seemed to get a good response, here’s another list on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Be warned, some of this stuff is dangerous to handle, like, physically, not just magically. Don’t leave a curse jar full of anything that might rot in or near your house. I’m not responsible for the results of whatever you do with this information, or the results of any hexes you cast.

This is a list I have compiled and have created. With the herbs, they must be negatively charged, just like anything else. Tell them what to do and charge them with your intent. Herbs have polarity, they can heal but they can also hex.

Rosemary - nightmares, insecurity

Rue - misery

Tobacco - substitute for (most) any baneful herb

OTHER INGREDIENTS Glass shards - reflect transgressions, to cause harm

Sharp objects (pins, needles, thumb tacks, thorns, etc) - damage, cause harm

Rusty nails - cause harm

Glitter - make their problems stick to them

Price tags - Debt, financial troubles

Dead battery - drain their energy

Vinegar - to sour, to rid yourself of them

Charcoal - block their vision, lack of clarity

Hot sauce - spicy misery

Cover hex jar with tin foil - make victim feel isolated and alone

Googly eyes - evil eye, to make them always feel watched, paranoia

Agar or Pectin - stick their problems to them, cause them stagnation

dog/cat shit - to shit on their life (energetically sever the connection to your pet though)

Cigarette butts - to cause addiction and troubles

Salted earth (just combine hydrophobic soil and salt) - dry up their resources, cause infertility

Nasty bong water - it's gross, need I say more?

Dog hair - fear, anxiety

Urine - to sour

Citric Acid - to pucker, to get them to stfu.

Pro-tip: use ingredients your target is allergic to. This can really help make a powerful hex, especially if they are allergic to nuts and go into anaphylactic shock or have any other extreme adverse reaction.

Any herb CAN be used banefully. Any crystal CAN be used banefully. First see what the herb/crystal is used for and, well, reverse it. Love => loneliness/loss of love. Peace => paranoia. Dream work => nightmares. Mental Clarity => delusions. All you need to do is negatively charge them. Tell them what to do and focus your rage and hate into the herbs/crystals to charge them up.

For the hardcore crystal witch:

Specific harm

On a very sunny day, write on paper: "[Name Of Enemy] will [experience a great misfortune] before [date]" or similar, or use a sigil. Take a sphere of quartz, hold above the paper, and allow the sun to stream through it until the victim's name is scorched from the paper.

Harm in love

Write their name on a slip of paper. On another, write "your/their heart will not find love", similar, or use a sigil. Wrap in cloth or tinfoil with a piece of rose quartz. Unwrap to release.

(Even if you do not cleanse your crystals, I would recommend doing so after using them as described above)

For the elemental witch:

General harm

Create a vial of strong sun water, then "corrupt" with a pinch of pepper or a splash of red dye. On paper, write the name of your victim, and cast them into the vial. Shake vigorously to expedite.

Productivity-related harm

Cast a small item taken from your victim into a vial of ocean water. They now feel as if they are drowning in their responsibilities. Pour out to release.

There are always alternatives to the risk of pickpocketing items on and off of people, but this is a method I have always had success with.

For the nature witch:

Long-term harm

Healthy acorns sink in water, while rotten ones will float (most of the time). Take a floating acorn and and whisper to it its purpose. Sneak it into your victim's belongings and let it take root.

Bad luck

Paint the name of your victim in water on a maple leaf. Place the maple leaf under the candlestick of a black candle and let burn for as long as you like. Negative energy, including that of any standing hexes against you, will be captured and sent on to your victim, even if they are its originator.

Spell ingredients:

Devils claw root (to drive them away from you)

Asafoetida (to drive away enemies)

Rat poison (to inflict damage and harm)

Red pepper flakes (strife, misery, discomfort)

Mealworms (dried works) (for disease, anguish, discomfort)

Salted earth (dry up their resources)

Google eyes (evil eye)

Broken glass (reflection of the negative and to cause self-reflection)

Rusty nails (to cause pain)

A smell-proof box (you’re gonna need it)

Glitter (to stick to the target and to cause anger)

Black candle

Curse/hex powder

Make a cloth poppet and fill it with rat poison, meal worms, red pepper flakes, and other herbs/powders. Lay it in a bed of salted earth in the box. Toss in rusty nails for pain, broken glass to only see the faults in yourself, google eyes to always feel watched, glitter to make it stick to them, and any other nasty shit you wanna use. Drip black wax over the poppet and say the following:

“Every shelter you may find yourself under will be a den of vipers, May everything you touch turn to ash. May every bite of food be poison to your body. May you never know a moment of peace. May you always feel watched and followed. Your resources and money run dry, unable to be gained. No human being or animal will show you a shred of mercy or love in your presence. Everyone sees through you for what you truly are, a horror, a monster, an abomination. Money will be lost as soon as it is gained. Those around you will take from you all you hold dear. Your health diminishes, your looks wither, your sanity is lost, all hope is gone from you. You will perish for what you have done and your life will be that of misery and hopelessness. May your death be slow, agonizing, and brutal. May any attempt to take your own life end in failure. You will not escape the torment you deserve.”

I got a LOT of these from @afledglings-guideto-witchcraft when they answered an ask I sent in, that blog is a fantastic place for information whether you've been practicing a few days or a few years imo.

I've been posting a lot about trying to find information on this subject and now I've gotten a good list compiled in a google doc and figured I'd share it with y'all, feel free to add on your own notes or just any commentary you have or experiences you've had using certain ingredients. I'm using some of these to make a hex jar to try and help a friend out with a shitty abusive household, which I might post more about if y'all would be interested in it, or if I just feel up to it.

Black pepper: bad luck, punishing negative energies

Don't ever let anyone tell you you are a bad person or you're going to get hurt if you practice baneful magic at all no matter what. The threefold law is a rule that Wiccans follow, no one else is obligated to believe in it, I respect people who believe in it and they should respect people who don't. Always make sure to judge a situation very carefully and use this magic appropriately.

So the difference is pretty simple.

Manifestation in Law of Attraction is a passive act. No matter what you do, you're manifesting something under that model. Your thoughts are causing everything that happens to you all of the time.
