Why is having a good expensive laptop so important? Is it really?

What's the biggest DON'T for freshman in their first week?
DONâT get locked out of your dorm. Or forget your ID anywhere. Itâs something that takes a while to get used to but make sure to double-check every time youâre leaving your room.
Does it matter in college whether or not you graduated in white? Because I'm not sure I'm going to be graduating with advance honors and I'm stressing out because most of my friends are and I feel dumb or not good enough for the university I want to enroll in. Do people care? do college look down on people who don't? Like I'm a senior and is going by fast. Ps. Your blog makes my day. It's so funny
Hey, thanks for your question! At my high school, we all had the same robe colors, and people with advanced honors or whatever wore colored ropes, so I didnât have the same experience. But by the time graduation rolls around, youâll probably know which school youâre going to, and so will everyone else youâre graduating with. Do as well as you can for the rest of the year, but as far as your friends are concerned, they shouldnât be too concerned about your academic situation.
Does anyone else have advice on this topic?
Awards and honors are by no means a measure of your worth, and they are not necessarily a measure of your intelligence.
The people you go to college with really arenât going to care what sort of honors and awards you graduated from high school with. (I was in an honors program at my small liberal arts school, so as we were first getting to know each other we did talk about our accomplishments, but no one was there to judge anyone about who had or hadnât achieved what. Pretty soon, these sorts werenât even a part of conversations.)
The college youâre applying to gets to decide whether or not they want you to enroll at their institution (but they donât get to decide whether or not youâre smart or a worthy person). Websites like cappex.com have good profiles of schools that can give you a good idea of whether or not theyâre likely to admit you based on your SAT scores, GPA, and types of classes youâve taken. But schools also take into account what extracurricular activities you were involved in and whether or not you held leadership positions. And personal essays get to give schools an idea of who you are as a person, beyond whatâs quantifiable.
So do the best damn job you can on your application for that school that youâre really interested in, and if your SAT scores and other numerical criteria are lower compared to theirs, be sure to apply to some âsafetyâ schools too â schools that do not have admissions requirements that are as vigorous and that are eager to look at you more holistically.
And please know that the number of awards you receive or number of cords around your neck do not define your worth as a person. If your friends value you, they do so because they think youâre cool, not because you have honors. (And if you find that your friends are drifting away from you, please know that itâs freakishly normal for high school friend groups to fall apart during senior year. It sucks. It sucks hard. Iâve been through it. But I survived and found friends in college. You will too.) Have fun this year, and have fun at college, wherever you end up going. You can do this!
Solid advice for incoming freshies!!
hello! This might be an odd question but I have emetophobia (fear of vomiting/vomit) and I managed to avoid parties/situations where people throw up in high school, but I'm worried about it in college. You've mentioned that there will basically be vomit everywhere, and this is already freaking me out a bit. Do you have any suggestions for avoiding it?
Ha, I donât remember ever mentioning that. At parties thereâs always a chance that someone will throw up, but Iâve only seen it a handful of times. You may be able to avoid it by leaving parties on the early side.
Do you get too chose your roommate or is it at random?
Most schools give you an option of a random or chosen roommate. I went random and Iâm glad I did.

I'm starting college in the fall and I've never had sex before mainly bc I've never had a serious boyfriend but I'm not sure how much I am actually going to want to during college. Is it completely lame to not have sex? I'm really worried that I'll find a really nice guy but if I don't want to have sex he'll lose interest. I'm just not as cool about having sex as everyone else and I'm really nervous :(
That is 100% not lame. You shouldnât feel pressured to have sex just because youâre a freshman in college! Wait until youâre comfortable, bottom line. If someone loses interest in you because you wonât have sex with them, thatâs their loss and youâre better off without them. Having sex doesnât make you âcoolâ and no one but you needs to be informed or have an opinion on your sex life.
Do most people take notes on their laptops or in a notebook?
It's pretty evenly split in most classes unless the professor prefers one over another. I'm a notebook person myself.
Quick advice to all the guys, first day of class go and sit next to the prettiest girl and make her smile. Believe me when I say it works :)

do you have time for shopping
I have too much time for shopping
I'm going to college in a small town. By small town, I mean, it has two 3-star hotels, a Wal-Mart and a Dennys. This is a big change for someone coming from one of the biggest metropolitan areas in our nation. How should I cope with the shift?
I've never lived in a small town or wanted to, lol. But my advice would be to just get really involved on campus and stay busy

A thing my boyfriend and I want to do in college is sleep together. Not sex, just sleep. Would my roommate be okay with that? Or that something I'd have to ask her to leave the room for the night for?
Yeah it shouldn't be a huge deal, as long as you're not like super awk. It definitely helps if your roommate and boyfriend are friends.
Where do you go to college??
Boston University!!
What's the deal with security if I want to bring someone back to my dorm at warren?
Take them up to security and ask for a guest form, you fill it out, you give it back to them with their picture ID. When the guest leaves they have to be sure to pick up their ID from security.
New semester, new textbooks, no money.
If youâre a college student like me, youâre probably short on funds and hate spending your money on textbooks. Your school bookstore is NOT the way to go â I learned the hard way my freshman year when I overpaid by about $500. Now I use Slugbooks every semester.Â
Why? (Ignore my awful winter break handwriting)
Because Iâd rather pay $153 than $230. Slugbooks is super easy to use and compares a bunch of different book sites to get you the cheapest textbooks.Â
Spread the word. Tell your friends, your followers. So many students can be seriously helped out by this :)
Itâs textbook time again! Freshmen (and everyone else), donât let your school bookstore rip you off!! Slugbooks is the way to go :)

if i dont live at the school campus dorms, can i still go to parties just as often?
It's totally doable. Just make friends who live on campus who are ok with you crashing on their floor after nights out.
