Rereading a great book on leadership with some Duke Ellington & Coltrane in the background. The best books to learn about leadership are reading about famous generals and warfare. Though Cyrus the Great came from a family that was royal he had some great views on leadership. "I say that a true leader shuns luxury and ease. Once in power, he should want to work harder than ever." The great, realistic conclusions that he came to in this book came from properly using the resources around him. As his uncle Cambyses said, "remember the lessons of history." The best quote however is when Cyrus said, "Truly, men must often fail to understand their own weaknesses...and their lack of knowledge can bring terrible disasters down their own heads." One of the best marketing books I have read. This explains how companies, and entrepreneurs, create habits with their respective products that make us feel a certain way if we do not use them. For example, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram all have created a habit forming product that make us check it everyday, just like brushing our teeth and taking a shower. You can use this for your business and use for yourself to make sure you do not get hooked in a bad way. It is all about The Hook Model: 1. Triggers (internal and external) 2. Action 3. This month marks the 60th anniversary of this great album. Though this album was made while he was going through a rough stage with his wife of the time Ava Gardner, it happens to be one of Mr. Sinatra's most popular bodies of work. B.B King said he listened to it before bed every night and Marvie Gaye listed it as one of his favorites as well. I play this album at least once day so playing it all day will be nothing new.
