She had removed the children from court, before the pressure of it could wear them down in the same way it had chipped away on her soul, so she was uncertain what Aerea was referring to. There had been no discussion of marriage, no limitations to how her children lived, aside from displaying manners and treating others with respect. Granted, they were royals and as such would have their duties to the realm one day, but not now.

But to have her mother fawn over her every time they saw each other wouldn't do well for Celeste.

She says it with a soft jest, though it's undoubtedly true. Their roles have been reversed. It's for this reason that she ensures she's listening this time, catching every word. And grees wholeheartedly. "It would be nice, so long as Monocco is in a good mood. Is he still at his station? I haven't seen snow in... well. A very long time."

His grandfather always came easily to mind, and not for good reasons. He had no fond memories of him, and when his father spoke of his rule, it was only to instruct Baelor in how not to behave. Aegon IV may have had no dragon, but men and women were dust to him all the same.

A GOOD RULER SEES THEIR PEOPLE PROTECTED. Their line has seen their fair share of rulers, good or bad - though opinions on which side one might fall on depends entirely on who she might be speaking with. (It is unjust, to write off women as a whole based off the claims and actions of a few - are there not far more examples of men in their line who were ill suited to rule?)
"A good king sees his people fed and protected from those that would harm them." Even when those that would harm them would come from within. Cousin Aerion is cruel, to the smallfolk and his siblings alike, but Uncle Maekar does not seem to see through his ruse.

Gael and Elmo weren't wholly a love match but not a purely political match either? She knew marriage was unavoidable for her, saw just how much say Rhaenyra was actually allowed in her own marriage, and started planning accordingly. Whether their first meeting is Rhaenyra's (show) investiture or Viserys and Alicent's wedding anniversary celebrations or even not until Rhaenyra's wedding celebrations, she can't help but notice him!
They dance and talk and she debates whether the Court gossip and scrutiny is worth a second because he's kind and she sees her way forward. An heir to one of the Great Houses and the future Lord Paramount of the Riverlands? There is little her father may find wanting, she'll secure a safe marriage for herself and help gain the Riverlands support for Rhaenyra in one fell swoop.
Rhaenyra's wedding is one for the Realm but Gael's is for the Riverlands, before her husbands gods in Riverrun's Sept. (If someday in the not so distant future she asks for a marriage in the tradition of her own House, then that is between them and the denizens of Dragonstone.)
she cannot grant their children Dragon eggs of their own but she can grant them their first flight when she's recovered enough from the birth, showing them the lands they'll one day rule.
With Lord Grover's views on the succession and clinging to life, they cannot act as well as they may want but he understands the duty Gael has toward her blood, the danger that Aegon's ascension poses to even their own boys, for if rhaenyra and her children were all to fall, the crown would follow to Gael and their children.
(That doesn't stop him from fearing for her with every flight and battle she takes part in.)
He's by her side through every loss and , utimately, she's the one to escort his body back to Riverrun on Vermithor for his funeral rites before seeing the rest of the Dance through. And when their last child is born, finally the daughter he'd been dreaming of, she's named in her father's honor. Elyana.
the other's voice had caught her off guard, even more so the mention of her mother. however, hesene had told others why she'd come to try and claim a dragon. she wasn't going to lie about who her mother was. there was no point in doing so, but most people seemed to believe her since they knew of her rough location in volantis. however, hesene's thought circle back to saera and the present time. she truly had no idea if her mother would approve of her being a dragonrider now. maybe she'd be pleased that she just survived the encounter at all.
"i have not written to her, no. i told her why i left, but i imagine she's focused on keeping her business running anyways."
GAEL MAY HAVE TO SEND A RAVEN OF HER OWN, IF ONLY TO ENSURE SAERA OF HESENE'S SURVIVAL. Saera may have her business to focus on, that is true, but it would not do to bring her ire to Westeros, not while Aegon still lays claim to Rhaenyra's throne. (Not that she fears for Saera's life - if anything, she would love to watch her put Aegon in his place, dragon or no.)
"I imagine it must take some adjusting, claiming a Dragon for your own." It had taken Gael some time, to get used to the feel of Vermithor in her soul, the feeling of a hunger not her own, of rage and contentment and the freedom of the skies. (Nyra had not prepared her for it, the missing piece slotting into place, the world at her feet.)
"I did not hatch my mount as a cradle egg, like my sister. Vermithor was not claimed till i was older, and him far older in return."
