Frank: Eat something. You: I’m not hungry Frank: Didn’t ask.

Frank: You awake? You: yes Frank: Can’t sleep. You: why? Frank: Thinking about you.

Frank: Call me when you get there. You: I’ll be fine, Frank. Frank: I know. Call me anyway.

Frank: Miss you. You: you miss me? Frank: Don’t make it weird.

Frank: Saw something you’d like today. You: what was it? Frank: Didn’t buy it. You: WHY Frank: Figured you’d want to pick it yourself.

Frank: You still mad at me? You: Maybe. Frank: Fair. You: That’s all you have to say? Frank: No. Frank: I love you. Frank: Now come here.

Frank: You looked beautiful tonight. You: You didn’t say anything Frank: Was trying not to stare.

Frank: I’m outside. You: Outside WHERE?? Frank: Your place. You: Frank it’s 2am Frank: I know.

Frank: You need anything? You: No, I’m okay. Frank: Cigarettes? Coffee? Food? You: Frank. Frank: Just asking.

Frank: I know you said you can handle yourself. Frank: I know you don't need me to protect you. Frank: Doesn't mean I won't.

You: I love you. Frank: Love you too, sweetheart. You: You could've said that first Frank: Was getting there.

Frank: Sleep. You: Tell me you love me first. Frank: I love you. You: 🥺 Frank: Now sleep, baby.

Frank: You’re my girl. You: I know. Frank: Good. Just wanted to make sure you remembered.

Frank: Got your favorite coffee. You: How do you even remember my order? Frank: I remember everything about you.

Frank: Don't wait up for me. You: I always wait for you. Frank: I know. Frank: That's what scares me.

Frank: I’m sorry. You: For what? Frank: Being difficult. You: You're always difficult. Frank: Yeah. Frank: Still yours, though.

Frank: I don't need you to fix me. Frank: Don't need you to understand everything I've done. Frank: Just… stay. Frank: That's all I'm asking.

Frank: You’re fucking adorable. You: You think so? Frank: Don’t make me repeat myself.

Frank: You’re adorably fuckable. You: That’s a weird compliment. Frank: Still a compliment.

You: Frank, Jesus Christ, I'm so sore from yesterday! Frank: Didn’t I say no whining? You: I’m not whining. Frank: Be a good girl.

You: Oh, shut up. Frank: You shut up. You: Make me. Frank: I will. You: Oh, really? Frank: You might moan a little.

You: You’re annoying. Frank: Yeah? You: Very. Frank: And you’re still here.

Frank: Come here. You: Why? Frank: Because I said so. You: Bossy. Frank: You like it.

You: I hate you. Frank: No, you don't. You: How do you know? Frank: Because you’re smiling right now.

At first he is scared that he is too much for you, that he is too scary and that his life is not worthy of you, but you make sure he knows that you’re serious about him in your everyday actions, like texting him that you love him or just making his favourite meals for him. You’re not scared of him or of the things that may come with loving him because you know in any case, he will be there.

He always brings you home after your date or you spending the night at his house. He will always open his car door for you and walk you to your apartment making sure you get inside and lock your door behind you, only then, he will go home.

Frank’s been mulling the decision over for minutes now; his head in hands, bouncing his knee, muttering to himself. When he finally comes to it, he calls you over.

“Sweetheart?”

“Yeah?” You call back, padding to the living room couch from where you were in the bathroom. You're softened up with lotion and clad in a cotton-soft set he got you on a whim, hair still damp from your shower. The sight makes his heart thud harder than a drum.

He pats the cushion next to him. “Would you c’mere for a sec? I got something for you.”

Curious, you round the couch and place yourself exactly where he said, tucking your legs underneath you. “What's it?”

He clenches his jaw before fishing in his pocket for a second. He holds out his palm, and in it there's two small charms attached to a chain; his dog tags from the Marines.

You look up at him, confused. He keeps his gaze down on his hand before grabbing yours and pressing the tags into your palm.

You swipe over the engravings with your thumb, feeling for his name. The weight of the sentiment isn't lost on you. “Frank?”

He swallows, and you’ve never seen him so boyish before, not in all your time together. “Want you to have them,” he mumbles.

You lean closer, holding the tags tight. “But they're yours. You always wear them.”

Frank shakes his head. “I’m yours. I want you to have them.”

You know better than to fight him, and you know this is more intimate than an I love you from Frank. He's giving you a piece of his past, hoping you'll keep it safe with the other parts of him.

“Okay,” you whisper, bringing your forehead to his. His hand wraps around your nape, pulling you closer and into his neck. “Thank you, Frank.”

olderbf!frank who is an avid sidewalk rule follower. He is always on the outside, guiding you or holding your hand, making sure you're out of harm's way.

olderbf!frank is the type to tie your shoes for you, hearing the soft clinks of shoelaces on the pavement, stopping in his tracks to bend down on the dirty floor and tapping your leg when he’s done. Even plants a little kiss on your head for good measure before walking again.

olderbf!frank is always near you. You’re always in his line of sight, and if he can’t see you or you’re off on your own, your location is pulled up on his phone and his check-ins are hourly. He doesn’t care what you’re doing, just that you’re safe. The world is a scary place, and he’ll be dammned if he let anything hurt you. 

olderbf!frank who brings you gifts or things that you like with a grunt. Sure, he got you your favourite breakfast, but he went on a walk for himself, and it happened to be right there. He never makes a big deal out of anything; it’s just what you deserve. 

olderbf!frank who never raises his voice at you. He’s an angry man, and he has a right to be, but with you, he’s always soft, gentle. He’ll listen to your frustrations and rants about him or the world and never raise his voice. 

olderbf!frank, who is always touching you with his hands on you, on the couch, your feet in his lap as his hands rub soft circles into your legs absentmindedly as he watches whatever is on the TV. 

olderbf!frank who always does the household chores for you: dishes, cooking, cleaning. You name it, and he does it. Breakfast in bed at least once a week, and the fridge is always stocked with your favorites because he's an attentive man. 

olderbf!frank who strictly calls you sweetheart, honey, my girl. The sweetheart started as a joke, back before you guys were dating. It pissed you off the way he said it so condescending but over time, over all the coffee and late-night calls, it became serious, sincere; now it was all he'd ever call you.

olderbf!frank who is very secretive about you. Sure, he mentions you to a select few, but his number one priority was keeping you safe from the dangers he knew were out there.

olderbf!frank, who takes your heels off after date night, after warning you they hurt. He doesn't say I told you so, just undoes the clasp, slipping off the expensive heels from your feet, massaging them for you.
