But seriously one of the best things I loved about Korra was how they didn’t go the stereotypical route when it came to the issue of parenting. We know how the game is played. We have seen it in all the movies. The liberal open minded parent produces a super healthy happy healthy child with one minor issues that quickly gets resolved. Good stable caring parents always produced the best children with strong relationships. Villains are always cruel and abusive to their children who are of course also always traumatized , Heroes almost always come from some broken home with deep issues.

Legend of Korra said screw all that and actually showed something incredible and so realistic. It completely broke the horrible and widely accepted idea that good people make good parents. We see how Toph despite being one of the greatest and most awesome characters has consistently failed as a mother. We see how despite how much we love and respect Aang he really neglected his non air bender children and really gave them some issues. We see how despite being a villain Hiroshi spend most of his life being a wonderful and caring father and even though he lost it he still managed to get redemption and show how much he cared for his daughter.

And look at Korra. Despite being a hero she still managed to have two absolutely loving and wonderful parents and even when she fought with them she still made up and they still continued to be loving and alive the entire time
