i don't have to think characters are likable to like them, and i don't have to "admit" they're unlikable because their flaws and failings are on display

people will be like "the point of x is that so-and-so is unlikable" oh, is that the POINT? that's the meaning you chose to take away? but what they actually mean is that so-and-so's unheroic/unpleasant traits or actions matter to the story. which is also what i mean when i say i like them.

But like genuinely. "humans have an innate need for spirituality" should be pretty transparently a reactionary opinion. It's simply not true and equates something that some people get benefit from with it being a fundamental aspect of being human (and one that is missing it most people today). You gonna start arguing "children *need* fathers or they grow up broken" next?
